Predictions for how next Tuesday will go?

538 keeps inching their prediction a point in favor of the GOP each day and their model says it's even possible now the GOP has 56 seats in the Senate:  https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/20 … id=rrpromo

RealClearPolitics is holding at 53 seats:  https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epoll … ction.html

I don't see at this point how the GOP doesn't have a majority in each chamber.  What's very interesting is if the GOP overshoots and gets 54 or 55 seats this election, there is a very solid chance they'd be over 60 seats in 24 as the next election will be much more favorable to them.  Could be very interesting to have a filibuster proof Senate Majority and a GOP president.  I can only dream about the important and dramatic changes that would come.  #1 being stating that birthright citizenship doesn't apply to the children of illegals, as we know this isn't a fight the left would win at SCOTUS.  But I won't get ahead of myself.

More interested to see if the DNC acknowledges running against Trump for 6 years isn't a political doctrine and if their acceptance of the superwoke is recognized as the biggest reason they're losing in nearly every state race as well.  Probably not, but as someone who wants compromise and a working government, the sooner they realize this the better.

One thing I'm positive about is you won't have 48 Democratic Senators demanding the filibuster be repealed come January.

I'm definitely feeling better.  But I lost my sense of smell last night (day 5) and tested positive this morning (day 6).  Other than some sniffles I feel perfectly fine.

Everyone has been coming down with Covid lately and it’s been pretty nasty. Is there a new strain going around?

I finally got it this week after 2.5 years. Not the death sentence or nightmare it was hyped to be, but definitely sucks. Sore throat, congestion and just general malaise.

Guess there’s no point in me getting the new booster.

Anyone else think Biden’s pardoning of small amounts of marijuana is a distraction from the fact Hunter is going to jail? And part of this investigation is going to result in the “chairman” being uncovered?

I distinctly remember when Biden told us this was Russian propaganda. I remember when the media repeated this line and made COVID out to be the greatest threat to humanity in 100 years. I remember social media banning the story and calling it misinformation.

What more do you need than to contrast the media and left pushing the Russian Collusion conspiracy shit on Trump and how they outright downplayed and attempted to hide that Biden and his family were everything they attacked the Trump’s of being. They overtly and knowingly lied and misled. Will there be accountability?

And how does this frame Trump’s state of mind after the election, knowing the “free” media and Democratic Party were working in concert?  Going to make this looming lawsuit against CNN and other networks very interesting. It’s time to hold the media and their corporate overlords to the same standard and scrutiny for their outrageous lies as Alex Jones is behind made to account for his.

Has any other military incursion/hostility gone this bad within the last 50 years or so?  I'm not an expert on US-Vietman , so that one I'm not sure about.

But Russia's attempted takeover of Ukraine will almost certainly lead to Putin leaving office in some form or another.

I can’t think of any. The US only “lost” territory in Vietnam when they turned it over to the South Vietnamese, much like what transpired in Afghanistan. Though much like Putin now, the US refused to go total war in Vietnam to decisively defeat the north.

Ukraine taking territory Russia officially considers its own is no bueno. The west claims that NATO infrastructure was sabotaged, and the saboteur was Russia. Yet they’ve done nothing. I’ll wager that even if direct, indisputable evidence of Russia’s involvement was found, they’d still do nothing. What message does that send to Putin? Why would he be deterred from going total war in certain regions to dissuade Ukraine from pushing further?

I don’t live in Ukraine so my information only comes from the corporate media. I know it’s biased towards the goals and ends of western oligarchs. But what do the people being occupied think?  Not some nitwit on TikTok or Twitter, but the average citizen?  Were the elections in the eastern region bogus? Do those people want to be part of Ukraine? My understanding is those in the east didn’t look on the revolution endorsed by western powers favorably.

We aren’t in a vacuum. History didn’t start on 9/11/2001, 11/09/89 or 9/01/39.  When the Soviet Empire collapsed, the deal was their former satellites could be independent, but not fall under the thumb of the US (NATO). With Sweden and Finland joining NATO, Ukraine is really the last buffer for Russia.

We can all sit here and celebrate elections we like and condemn those we don’t. We can call Putin evil and pat ourselves on the back that we have open air drug markets and rampant looting without consequence. But none of that shit matters. Power is power and it doesn’t care what twinks on social media have to say about it.

If the west wants supremacy over Russia, they’re going to have to go to war. And the winner is going to have to take on China afterward. The US is the only think keeping Russia from controlling Ukraine and the other former Soviet bloc countries just as it’s the only thing keeping China from going nuclear in India and taking over all of South Asia. And our newest Supreme Court justice can’t opine on the definition of a woman.

Putin and Xi have been in power for decades, and we change our positions every few years. The long game isn’t favorable to the West. We’ve foolishly bought into the falsehood of multiculturalism and lack any unity or shared values. The constitution is now taboo to half the nation.

Nothing that is going on is an occasion to celebrate. We’re sitting on top of a tinderbox, daring the other to strike the match. Don’t buy into the propaganda and don’t cheer on those who are leading us into nuclear war while they have a fortress inside a mountain to remain safe in.

I think it's fair to criticize the show for decisions done exclusively for shock value.  What did making the Crabfeeder a torturer, crucifying men to be eaten by crabs do to advance that story?  Polluxlm's right, this change only accomplishes making Viserys look even weaker and more stupid.

Introducing black characters is fine, I couldn't give two shits.  But if you do it solely to be more "diverse", at least make the effort to change the story to accommodate the problems that creates.  Rhaenys is half Baratheon and has black/brown hair in the books.  The show chose to show all "true" Valyrians as having white hair.  Corlys has it, as do both his children.  They made Rhaenys have it.  Viserys, Daemon, Rhaenyra and all of Alicent's children have white hair.  The only ones who don't have it are Rhaenyra's children.  They made white hair the defining feature of Valyrian blood, so much to the point that even when a Baratheon and Hightower mate with a Targaryen, the offspring have white hair.  Baratheon blood being "powerful" was a central theme in the original show.  So with all this importance on white hair, they still have Rhaenyra's kids have brown hair like Harwyn.  All this change results in is making Viserys look like a complete and utter moron.  Comically stupid to the point it contradicts the character they created for Corlys.  Why the fuck would Corlys ally with Viserys?  His wife has a claim, his children are dragon riders, as is his wife.  He controls the navy, and we know Daemon marries Laena.  Why would he ally with this stupid, weak ass version of Viserys?

They're starting to do the shit they began in Season 5 of the show where they took a story arc and either butchered it or subbed in their significantly lower value fan fiction version.  No one who has read the books can say the show version of Dorne was in anyway an improvement and not a significantly poorer story than the one the book has laid out.  I get it changes need made, but they had a blueprint and "Bad Pussy" is what they chose to give us.

It's not a compelling story, and they're making the characters too extreme to be anyway likeable.  There are no Starks until the end of this story, so they need some kind of good guy to balance out the narratively bad ones.  Everyone save Alicent absolutely is monstrous in this show, and they seem to be hell bent on making the audience dislike her if they don't already.

It's entertaining, well acted and gorgeous to view.  But I like view these high level programs for the story more than anything else, and when you have a solid blueprint and choose to put garbage in its place, it's not "hating".  It's taking serious the source material, recognizing that changes need to be made, and appreciating the turns the show writers have taken.  And being puzzled and perplexed when people who have read and want to honor the same material you both enjoy by doing something that any serious group of writers should have identified as a problem.  I think it's interesting as fuck that Helaena is probably having green dreams.  I'm ok with Criston Cole actually sleeping and being spurned by Rhaenyra.  I think these are two great changes and am interested to see how that influences future events.  But that doesn't mean when they make characters impossibly stupid or naieve, everything is peachy keen.  Ned was the classic, honorable, good-natured hero.  And he got his head cut off within months of coming to King's Landing.  We've seen this bumbling buffoon rule peacefully and successfully for 20 years.  That's not the message GRRM wrote.

Blonde

This movie is a steaming pile of horseshit.  I thought this was going to be an award's contender, but it's just a completely fictional account of Monroe's life with over the top sex scenes tossed in that don't advance the movie or plot at all.  First NC-17 movie I've watched since Showgirls and without question, Showgirls is the better film.  That's saying a lot.  Ana De Armas did a fantastic job in her role, but the story was just utter crap.

Weird how the EU seems to be collectively pointing the finger at Russia.  I guess the US suddenly is able to influence Europe and get them to agree with our conspiracy.  Crazy we couldn't do that for Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran or Ukraine but now suddenly have that power.

#129 Re: The Garden » Current Events Thread » 154 weeks ago

The US warned the EU and the world Russia was planning an invasion of Ukraine weeks before.  Are you suggesting that the Americans were in on that?  Or maybe the world's greatest intelligence organization is the world's greatest intelligence organization.  We knew Bin Laden was planning 9/11 too, we just didn't take it seriously.

I'm unaware the President of Poland and his administration were blaming the US.  I know a former Defense Minister in no capacity to have confirmation has made that statement, but that takes us back to your comment yesterday where some random dude with no connection to US or German intelligence made a comment on Twitter and you accepted it as proof.

I'm not saying the US didn't do this, just that there is no evidence to support that claim.  And more to the point, people in a position of authority in the EU nations aren't making that claim either.  Only people who don't have any direct connection to intelligence agencies to say nothing about the difficulty in knowing who was responsible hours after the attack.  They're not even sure it was sabotage yet, but you seem confident this was a US action.  I'm just saying you have no credible basis to make this argument and no amount of tweets is going to change that.

I don't speak German, but I know this article is claiming the CIA warned Germany weeks ago of the potential attack.  I know if I was plotting sabotage, I'd warn the nation I'm intending to do the sabotage to.
