I think promo and a video is what is really needed. It's sold somewhere around 375 thousand or so right now so it wouldn't take that large of a push to have it to gold by January. A video (better yet two or three) and some decent promo and I think it could be in decent shape. Going the Best Buy route kills most of the "impulse" and "casual listeners" sales so the most sensible way to make this album sale good is to use PROMO! Promo will intrigue people who like what they hear to order online. A video for Better must happen and I think a follow-up video of Street of Dreams would be the key.
I've said since the first week of lackluster sales that this album has the potential of being one of those albums that stays on the top 100 a good long ride. That would get it to some decent sales regardless of highest chart position.
I will admit I am wrong if it turns out that i am but I have been saying for weeks that this album will slowly grow into a significant success if they play their cards right over the next few months and i stand by that.

I wouldn't exactly be seduced by my request either.
In my defense, I would choose a different approach if I was face to face with him.

Don't hate me for not staying on topic of mostly GNR related questions but I'm way curious to know if he handles his own MySpace.
Reason being is that my band got a friend request from his profile this summer and I just about crapped myself - that's potentially just very, very cool...

i would ask:
"Please speculate with us how much (percentage wise) did the existince of lead and solo parts in songs increase from the content of cd to that of the next album? Before you answer, I would like to point out that ["I am not sure what songs will be chosen, to be included on any future album."] will not fullfill my request for I have merely asked for speculation on the matter and you must know which unreleased songs have been practiced most often and you must know which unreleased songs have been mixed and played around with most often."

So...who made the decision to go with Best Buy? I mean, all this sounds like another scapegoat fest by Axl lovers, but lets think about what made them choose Best Buy.
Lets pretend everything you said is correct. So they chose to go with the company that would result in 40% (your made up number, not mine) less sales for their album? Damn, what a brilliant move. I mean, that way when it fails miserably, you have (gasp) another excuse for it. Maybe they didn't do it for the excuse...maybe they did it because of the upfront money. But if you thought it was going to sell 40% (again, your made up number) more, who cares about upfront money, right? You'll get just as much if not more after 2 weeks of sales, plus recognition for being #1 which will bring in more buyers curious to hear what was so good.
So even if you believe your post (I don't but I'll pretend I do for the sake of this discussion), what would lead them to making the decision they made? I mean, surely if YOU know all of this, Axl's management team (one of the best in the business) knows all of this too, right?
i think most would agree this was a better business decision (quantity of dollars vs. quantity of units moved)- azoff also said he couldn't get axl to drop the songs with swear words, neccessary for wal mart to carry the cd.
i still think this thing will continue to sell after the exclusivity with best buy ends. they have met their budget by choosing best buy and will try to push the units when it is available everywhere.
in the end, i think it came down to more than one objective (the art, the money, and then the statisitics)

cd being in wal mart during the busiest shopping time of the year wouldn't help sales? hmmmmmm.
the fact is there are many reasons this cd wasn't a commercial success.
bigbri, i think yours is the most significant.
it's kind of silly how certain people said cd sales were plummeting the second week because all of the hardcore fans stopped buying it and they are now saying "it wouldn't have mattered if it were sold at wal mart" or "it's available to them if they want it". my response is yes, you're right, we are the only ones that bought the album and all of the casual rock fans or gift givers did not because........ they were all at wal mart buying all of their shit. they have everything best buy has(when money is an issue) and 500 times more. people aren't at best buy right now they are at wal mart. it's simple.

supposedly he chose art when he chose best buy so he wouldn't have to remove the swear words and compromise the integrity of his art
hard to believe that now, though, since the tracklist contains songs he told us wouldn't be on the album and as dexter, told us it was meant as a double album. in other words, he didn't have the final or sole say on the tracklist.
it obviously came down to business but that is not such a bad thing when so many people and so many legal issues are involved at this point.

i think we're focusing on customer purcahses - we all know the best buy deal was sweet for gnr as far as money goes but maybe not so good as far as commercial success goes

Wal-Mart has over THREE TIMES the stores Best Buy has.
If they'd put CD in Wal-Mart, coupled with WM's promo, it might've did better than Black Ice, if not went instant-platinum, and #1.
I think it's a daydream. If people had been so interested in Axl's version of Guns N' Roses, they would have managed to go to a BB or ordered it online.
that's not true and the info is right in front of us
look at these "mathematics" again while comparing the cd sales in the u.s. to other countries where it wasn't sold at best buy and you have the right perspective.
cd sells 2-4 times more copies at wal mart than at best buy (in the u.s.)
i'd put money on that

i have been there three times since cd's release and the place was a grave yard each time
actually, there were more people at the grave yard the last time i was there than were at best buy lol
