Fuck Jay Cutler!!! Can't believe they even had the nerve to call this clown "the franchise". Gonna be a rough season for Chicago. With just one competent QB this decade, Bears could have been a dynasty.

I don't know if this defense can carry them the whole season. If they do, gonna have to be a LOT of 9-6 victories.

Getting rid of Thomas Jones worked wonders for this team...

Urlacher's out for the year now with a dislocated wrist, so that's another hurdle for them to overcome.  I've was unimpressed with their O-Line as well they got blown up a few times and Orlando Pace just looks old.

Their WR core lacks a true #1 guy.  Bennett looks like a possesion guy and both Knox and Hester look like guys who can only run go routes.

Their front four played real well and some of the secondary guys played better than expected.

Does he have something against SF or does he just want more money than that WR from Oakland?!  If that's the case he's an idiot. The players association should step in & tell this guy either sign or you'll be banned. Those unions step right in when they see the team at fault, but when it's they player they turn the other way.

Pa Snow--Crabtree's just a primadonna wide reciever.  Every other team has signed their #1 pick including the cheap Bengals.  I don't know if you know this but prior to the draft he visited Cleveland (which held the #5 overall pick) and after that visit they removed him from their draft board.  Their reasoning was that he was a primadona and a diva.

If he doesn't sign by week 9 he is ineligible to play the rest of the season--so the onus is on him to sign.  He won't be going #10(or higher) next year and if he's that delusional to believe that then good luck to him.

Eagles totally surprised me. I didn't expect a blowout victory. At all. Defense looked really good & OL played well. I'm not saying it's indicitive of their season & record, but it was a really good start.

Tough game against the Saints next week, good luck.  One last comment on Carolina-they stupidly signed Delhomme to an extension after last year's playoff debacle against the Cardinals.  They also traded away their first rounder next year.  So, they are not likely to get help on that front either.

Ouch, bummer.

I'm undecided for tonight to go with Chris Chambers from SD or the rookie Heywood-Bey or whatever from Oakland.  If I have time I may switch to Chambers but I think Bey is in there now, & I'll be busy tonight (can't log on at work)

I'd go with Hayward-Bay since Chambers is SD #1 guy and will be covered by the best cover corner in the NFL--Oakland's Nnamdi Asomugha.  You know Oakland will take some deep shots down the field and that'll give him a few chances to get a deep ball.  Teams just don't throw toward Asomugha's side of the field.

The great thing about the Prestige is the focus on obsession and what it leads people to do. In addition to this main theme, the production values are incredible (great acting, stunning cinematography, great period piece production design, etc.). A lot of people criticize Nolan's films for allegedly having a detached style, but I strongly disagree. I think they are very humanistic.

Yeah, it was like a strange game between Bale and Jackman playing who can top this.

Hidden Text:

They both pretty much go nuts in the film, Jackman in trying to figure out the secret and Bale in trying to protect it.  It's kinda tragic they end up losing the women they love in the process.  David Bowie and Michael Caine end up being the voices of reason in the film.

I'm not sure what "detatched style" means, could you elaborate further?  I think his films are darker than most but that's fine with me.

I only have the single disc DVD. From what I have read, the Blu-ray does NOT have all of the special features that come on the 2-disc DVD. And it is an earlier Blu-ray release that was done with the MPEG2 codec. I'm sure it looks better than DVD, but it's not going to be anywhere near as good as it COULD have been if Sony had used the AVC codec (which is what they have been using for a while now). AVC is a far more advanced codec than MPEG2. MPEG2 is the standard codec for DVD, but it's simply "old hat" so to speak. Here's a couple reviews of the Blu-ray:

The second one has around 20 screenshots for you to look at if you want.

As for your question on repeat viewings, it is good to already know the plot. But the thing that's great about it is that you realize how much work went into writing the script and editing it while you watch it unfold knowing exactly what's coming. The level of detail involved in the film is amazing and repeat viewings allow you to focus on all the little things. And Guy Pearce. What a fuckin' performance. It's just a kickass movie that demands repeat viewings in my opinion.

In that case, I'll just pick up the 2 disc set when there's very little difference between quality.  I remember Carrie Anne Moss's doing a good job in the film too.  Thanks for the detailed recommendation.

Have you ever seen his short film Doodlebug? Pretty interesting. It has that trademark gritty feel that can be found in all of Nolan's films. When you watch a Nolan film, no matter how low the budget is, you know you're going to be watching a film with plenty of atmosphere.

Nope.  Thanks for the link.  It's strange that the only film of his I haven't seen is the Insomnia remake.  I've seen the original though, a bit too moody for me.

Hey, the same guy who starred in Following is in this short too.  That's pretty cool.  Going back to Nolan for a minute, almost all of his films feature characters isolated from society in some way or another--emotionally and otherwise.

I agree. Memento is one of my all-time favorites and Prestige is widely respected as a great movie (8.4 on imdb) even if it isn't one I'd watch many times. And even though I don't love it, the story is amazing (as is Memento's and both Batman films) and he co-wrote all those, and I believe he is the writer for Inception as well.

I'll probably see this if it gets a couple good reviews.

I saw Prestige a second time a few months after the first viewing, and it wasn't as fun but you do get to try to understand the characters especially the Christian Bale character.

Just watched Memento for the 5th time tonight. Incredible movie, the best of the 21st Century so far in my opinion and it's in my top 5 all-time (behind Godfather 1, Godfather 2, Citizen Kane, and 12 Angry Men). Memento just keeps getting better with each subsequent viewing for me. I normally can tear a film to shreds with repeat viewings, but not this one.

Interesting.  I saw this when it came out in 2001 and always wanted to rewatch it.  In your opinion, does the subsequent viewings of the film improve because you don't focus on the plot as much.  Also, would you recommend getting the 2 disc special edition that came out in 2002 or the blu ray edition?  I'm going to assume you own the film since you've seen it several times.

More interesting than if TO is going to work in Buffalo, is if the moves on the offensive line improve for the Bills. If they finally get some decent pushes after 4-5 years of lousy play, then the Bills could almost contend with a little luck. But if the line plays like it did last year, no amount of other circumstances will be enough.

Eli is getting more money than he's worth imo but losing him would be terrible for that team, and there's always 10-15 teams unhappy with their QB, so if you find one you really like, I guess you might as well pay him a ton.

Just who are their projected OL starters anyway?  I caught a few Bills games at the end of the year and thought the QB play was subpar.  Edwards is cleary on the hotseat here with no Losman to contend with.  The division is interesting in that after New England that second spot (and a potential wildcard spot) is up for grabs.  I don't think the Jets will be contending with a rookie QB.

On Eli, QB's are always overpaid and he's above average, maybe not the best, but he's competent and QB's never hit the market.  If they have the cap room to do it, then that's fine.  Besides almost all NFL contracts are inflated as most of the money will never be realized as there will be a bunch of restructuring in the future.
