Also, Sorry isn't a bad single choice at all, but I hate the way Axl says "but I don't want to do it" after the "you want me to jump and be good"... sounds so weird and forced.
But it's a great single choice also.

i have a different opinion of what's currently out there dominating our culture
my impression is that everybody has a short attention span these days and the power shifts that exist between genres of music can shift back and forth at completely random points

on the other hand, have you heard some of the songs that make it big lately? they aren't big. a month on the radio is a long time for a single nowadays 
i'd say they have several that can compete with what's on the radio these days as a big single.

I don't think anyone is saying its not a damn good album. It is, and when we do our usual 'best of 2008' thread at the end of the year, Chinese Democracy will come in 2nd on my list of best albums of 2008, although I still haven't listened to Dido's record.
