To be honest I've thought the same thing for a while now.

For all we hear about how they're artists - both of them seemed unable or unwilling to recognise the other's contribution to their art.

As if Slash was ever going to find another Axl for vocals, and as if Axl was going to stumble into someone better for his songs than Slash. It's troublesome that it took them 30 years to give up the stubborn effort to fight it.

If it was about the art, not money, not ego, not other stuff they would have compromised earlier.

If they make a new album it will be better late than never, if not, then in a couple more years when it's all over we'll be left thinking "GNR - the band that could have done so much".

It's hard to know how to take MSL.

He's done some good stuff for fans, well - depending on your perspective anyway, like some some of his original leaking of rarities. Additionally he seems to be engaging to listen to and he tells a good story. I suspect in real life he is probably a good guy.

However, to me it kind of "jumped the shark" a little when he got his hands on all that data later and started actively threatening and blackmailing the band. I mean, hell, we all want an end to the hoarding of leaks from traders and shit, but it's another matter entirely to demand GNR start following your own plan for the band.

It's also hard to take anything he says too seriously, as he's self-admitted to lying about GNR when it suits him (such as his original trick the hoarders campaign) and he seems to have developed an almost pathological need for attention and drama.

Further, and this isn't MSL's fauly entirely, but I'm just sick of Scooby-Do. His posts are always full of games and vague hints and innuendo, but he never just comes out directly says what he claims he knows. To him and his kind it's kinda a case of man up and share the info regardless of the legal ramifications or simply shut the fuck up about it. One or the other please.

It's not just lame it's kinda pathetic that they took until 2016 to patch up a dispute that started somewhere around 1993.

My first reaction was who the fuck gives a fuck that the replacement member in fucking Drowning Pool APPROVES of Axl in AC/DC, as long as he checks his ego?!?!

This x 1000%

Axl is one of the all time historical greatest frontmen ever, Ac/Dc is one of the longest running, biggest, greatest rock acts of all time. I'm sure it's really important to them to get the approval of umm....errr.....

Yes 2009 was good. Monkey says greatest show he has ever been to.

No, I meant those asian 2009 shows are  my favourite year for bootlegs - cos they played some of the CD songs like TWAT and axl was doing the screams. Unfortunately I wasn't there until they came to Australia in 2010 and by then the set was less interesting.

Best show I was actually at was 1993 UYI tour in Melbourne Australia.

Yeah it's really sad how  Mischa went down hill. She was gorgeous and I thought seemed to act pretty well....I sort of expected her to transition into leading lady rolls in big movies.

You're way over-thinking this. I'm using your logic against you. It baffles me how you arguing your point for Steven & Matt with the same logic i'm arguing FOR Frank, yet somehow when it's Frank's name & CD, somehow it's lesser of an argument, yet it's the same logic you used.

But it isn't the same logic I used. I think we must be misunderstanding each other.

My point for Matt was that I believe irrespective of the song credits that the drumming on UYI is distinctive and awesome. The guy who plays the drums.

My point for Frank is that I believe that the drumming on CD is fairly bland and indistinctive.  Further, with the exception of 3 songs it isn't frank playing those drums.

Therefore I find it odd that people say Frank is the best drummer ever, as you are comparing 3 songs with adequate drumming against 3 albums of excellent drumming.

Unless the concept that he is best comes from his live performance, in which case I'd also disagree, he's great live but I don't find him particularly better than Matt, and in fact I miss some of Matt's signature sounds.

Just to get it back to the basics.

AFD > UYI
AFD > CD
CD > UYI (as seperate albums)

Can you clarify - are you saying those records are superior as a whole (the complete songs) or that the drumming is better?

It's not the same thing to me. For example TWAT is one of my fav GNR songs but that's for the vocals not the drums. I could take or leave the drums. So on a drum level Right Next Door to Hell > There was a Time. BUT on overall songs I'd rate TWAT > RNDTH.

So that was my other point. If we're talking full songs not the drums specifically I don't think you can say Frank is better than Matt because CD>UYI - as (if) it's better it's because the overall songs are better. In my opinion if Matt had been drummer on CD and given those CD songs we would have better drums than we got.

I'm not against it, but for discussion, in this situation what's the benefit of diversity? To help moderate Axl's lyrics?

Again... this is kind of where ignorance goes. GN'R being more diverse brings in more MUSICAL diversity.

That sounded awfully like you called me ignorant but I'm going to roll with the Aussie way of insulting people lovingly like "Monkey you cunt let me buy you a beer" wink

Back to the discussion though, It sounds to me like you are automatically assuming racial diversity means musical diversity. But that's not the case just because the next person they bring in is Asian doesn't mean they automatically like 'asian music' or anything else, Frank doesn't have to like R+B just cos he's black - in theory you could have just as much musical diversity even if they stuck with straight-white-males over 45. Not that i'm saying they should - I was just curious why people are excited about racial diversity in the band.

But i agree with the rest of what you said generally that musical diversity is a good thing for the band - I'm just unsure you automatically get it with race.

Of course the other issue is that diversity is somewhat irrelevant in the situation where Axl is head producer and oversees every instrument. Someone might bring the indian scale into a synth but it's only going to stay on the record if Axl likes it. Additionally the label made it pretty clear they have a narrow field of what can be GNR music as well. So there's that as a problem also.

Still I should state I have no problem with Melissa any more than I had with Pitman. I don't really feel either of them are needed while the band primarily busts out AFD/UYI hits live - but they might come in useful if that blessed day ever comes where it's time to record more.
