#2001 Re: Guns N' Roses » Slash and Duff working on CD II according to MSL » 531 weeks ago
Personally I think if anything was self-titled it would have suited AFD the most. That record captures the "real life danger" vibe of the old band.
Not sure a record with more experimental tracks like "Silkworms" necessarily should be seen as the definitive statement.
I know the view around here is that Slash and Duff will turn this record back to contraband or AFD....
but where's the basis for that? They're being silent just like Axl's band does, Axl cancelled his TV interview just like he always does, there's inadequate promotion for this tour just like there always is....it's business as usual....
Which means if we follow the example of bumblefoot.....Slash might come in - do a few solo overdubs....then Axl edits it over the next 2 years.

Anyone expecting CD II to immediately be wrapped in cellophane and released when the reunion was announced cant blame the band/label. The reset button was hit on the project the moment Slash & Duff came back.
Hard to know.
Maybe Axl invited them back because the label didn't like CD2? After-all the label didn't like CD1 and Axl himself said the first record was closer to the old sound of the band than the later records.

The amount of crap? I really like Axl and Slash's solo songs.
And I think most of Izzy's GNR songs would be boring if they Izzy solo.
How would YCBM be or SCOM without Axl and Slash?
I like izzy he brings good structures in for the band to work with...but lets not get carried away...the sound of GNR is Axl and Slash.
#2004 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Buckethead 2017 tour » 532 weeks ago
I'd like to see him one more time but as I've mentioned before, I have had hearing damage for years and the last couple concerts I went to(bucket, SG) made it worse. Bucket REALLY did. I was close the entire show and when I walked out of there my hearing was shot for days.
Are you using earplugs? If not I recommend it. Bit like sex with a condom - sort of not as good but the medical reasons make it worthwhile

Might be an assumption but I am strictly sticking to songs he is credited with either writing or co-writing. Kinda hard for a song to exist if one of its writers does not.
That entirely depends on the writing process though.
I'm sure at times Izzy came in with an entire structure, Axl sang over it, Slash soloed over it....you're right...those ones wouldn't exist in the GNR catalogue.
However I bet there's also times where Axl came in with a song basis, or Slash with a riff, and Izzy was the one who played some stuff over the existing idea or suggested small changes.....in those cases something similar to the song would exist.
Take 14 years, Izzy wrote the verses and Axl wrote the chorus. So 14 years wouldn't exist. But that chorus might exist. Likewise if Slash didn't play that bluesy solo in 14 years, i suspect it would have found it's way onto a similar track on day.
If you really want to imagine GNR with no Izzy, look at the best of Slash's solo album songs - then imagine those riffs with Axl's voice and lyrics, and then look at the best of the CD era songs and imagine them with Slash riffs and solos. That's a much closer approximation.

Does this assume that if Izzy was a co-writer of a song then the song wouldn't exist?
I think that's a bit of an assumption - perhaps many of the songs would exist in some of other form - such as with a different bridge or something.
Obviously some that were entirely izzy's creation wouldn't, but just because he was credited with writing part of a song doesn't mean the entire song wouldn't always exist.
#2007 Re: Guns N' Roses » GN'R Twitter Updates » 532 weeks ago
They are now an official trio, no different then their future opener, Alice In Chains = Jerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney & Mike Inez.
I hear ya except with one disgraceful difference.
AIC is like that because Layne Staley and Mike Starr are dead.
In GNR All 5 AFD guys are alive but 30 years on they can't get their shit together and just play some shows with Izzy and Steven.
It's too hard.

I also believe that GNR know exactly what they're doing with (lack of) promotion and it's working really well. They've sold out all the shows they've announced and, depending on if Axl sounds good and performs well, they'll be able to charge even more if there is a summer tour.
I would paint the lack of promotion as part of a plan, except it's basically the same thing Axl did for all of the Chinese Democracy tours and his album, so I see it more as just he doesn't like the media too much, and it's how everything will always go.
Obviously Slash and Duff's silence is deliberate but I think their plan is simply: "It used to make Axl mad when we talked - let's not fuck this up"
Adler and Matt I would hesitate to guess are in flux and so are keeping their mouth shut as a play to end up in the band. May not work but running their mouth will guarantee they don't get the gig.
As for it working really well, these shows were destined to sell out. GNR was so important back in the day, and the Axl/Slash feud was one of the longest and most well publicised falling outs in rock history that there was no chance of them not being able to sell out some early appearances.
To me what this shows is that the brand is strong enough to flourish DESPITE the silent approach to business, rather than because of it.
#2009 Re: Guns N' Roses » Izzy Stradlin 'Stuck in the Middle With You' » 532 weeks ago
I dunno if it's a message as such.
But, I'd speculate he'd always sort of planned that one day Axl and Slash would stop the BS and the 5 of them would play together for fun.
Now it's happening without him, so it might be time to remind the world you exist.
#2010 Re: Guns N' Roses » Alice In Chains as Opening Act in Vegas? » 532 weeks ago
I didn't mean stoner rock as an insult. I was just meaning things like "Check My Brain" - great song - sort of heavy but in a slow way.
