Something else though - AIC is a tight oiled machine...GNR will need to bring their A game - if Axl isn't ready it would be obvious following AIC.

This will go off. Especially if they bring their hits setlist.
I saw AIC twice within a week about 2 years ago.
The first was a small club show done as a sideshow to a festival. They played a lot of deep cuts and less known tracks - for hardcore fans it would have been great but I'll confess I was a little lost as I wasn't familiar with enough of the set - also the acoustics in that place couldn't handle the bass.
Then a few days latter I saw their festival show. It was amazing. Basically a classic hits setlist of all the songs you know and love from back in the day with the radio hits from Black Gives Way to Blue and Devil Put Dinosaurs Here. Epic Show - really went off!
Anyway this will be great with GNR. Sure it's stoner kinda music - but when they do stuff like "Dam That River" the place will be jumping for sure!

I honestly don't understand the need for a third guitarist. Even if they purposely want to bury the vocals it's not like slash doesn't play loud.
However at least 50% of GNR's bad mixing issues live come from too many guitarists and the alternating of lead lines mid solo break.
Often the first few notes of the change to a new guitarist are utterly inaudible as the sound guy catches up.
You see it a lot on boots too - like DJ will play a half the solo, it will cut to Bumble for the next phrase and we hear nothing while seeing him shredding the notes, until a moment later when he suddenly becomes audible above the din of 2 rhythm players and 2 keyboardists.
I think it's stupid - i know there's places with some overdubs but for the whole AFD and UYI era they did very well by having Slash play the most prominent lead guitar line and a rhythm player hammering out the chords.
If that rhythm player is Richard then there's even less reason for a 3rd guy as he could easily smash out any CD era solos Slash didn't like the style of or felt like gifting him for good will.
Richard and Slash is plenty of guitar. If they add a third guy it's just silly.

It seems Izzy originally left because he was now sober and didn't want to be around drug use, and, he didn't appreciate being turned into an employee when he was a co-creator of the band.
He tolerates that shit for small bursts cos it's fun. I think he was down to play the hall until Axl bailed.
As for full time - I assume he was always holding out for Axl to bring back the others as full partners and they could go back to being a real band. But it's never going to happen.
Also if I could be cynical - the annual AFD paycheck gives him the freedom to do as he wishes - but in the downloading age that will be getting smaller - so watching the others host a semi-reunion without him might be financially tempting and so he was interested.

Sorry for being such an asshole lately but I think it just comes down to "What's In It For Me".
My guess would be promoters put up the real money for any line up that incorporates Slash and Axl.
Clearly Slash/Duff/Axl counts as a reunion to most without the others - hence people flying in from all over the world and the media running the stories and steven tyler making a comment etc etc.
So then you have to ask - if Axl/Slash/Duff get a reunion payday with or without Izzy - what do they get out of cutting him in?
All they get is a tad more legitimacy, but they've been GNR with no Izzy or Steven before on the UYI tour, and hell, Axl has toured with a lot of folks as GNR. It's not needed for the media. So what then? Just cos it's fun - but you temper that fun with Izzy possibly bailing...and calling out your bullshit...and whatever else...and well....hmmm.....maybe you keep the money and cut richard a soft fee to show up instead.

Well maybe you wouldn't do the same thing but I probably would have hahaha
Anyway you don't like him....fair enough.
I just think for me there's a distinction between the official writing credits and adding value to the songs. Matt may not have 'written' anything - but he's added great drums to those albums - they suit the mood of the songs very well - I wouldn't change any of the drum parts he did.
Still each to their own.

I really, really, really think Sorum will not be involved. This isn't about Sorum or Adler, or even Izzy.
Indeed it does seem to be the Axl, Slash and Duff show.
On reflection, thinking they'd all sort out something for the fans or the legacy was kinda silly of me. I could write a novel on it - but when you think about it - every single one of them has always just done whatever suited whenever. With very little regard for much else. It's been a mess from UYI and before.
That said, I think a hybrid line up will be awesome if Axl's voice is on the mend. It's not like the fill-in's are bad players - with slash back the guitar will be "right" - and richard and frank can hold their own with drums/rhythm fine.
#2018 Re: Guns N' Roses » GN'R Twitter Updates » 532 weeks ago
Sorum is a douche, he can't help it. I understand fans defending him. He needs the ego stroke. Stroke, little monkeys.
Seriously though, the guy has done way more to make himself the center of attention than Pittman ever has. Does Matt even have a writing credit with GNR, VR or the Cult? Luckiest sumbitch in rock.
To be fair, I think Axl is an egotistical dickhead, so I spread my hate around.
I disagree.
I think Adler was great but was more a case of "right place right time" in that he got into GNR cos he grew up jamming with Slash. Compared to say someone like Slash that was always going to make it somehow. If not in GNR in some other rock band.
Matt got the GNR gig for his chops and he nailed it. His drumming is great on UYI and TSI. He also nailed the rhythm section with duff live and continued that chemistry with Velvet Revolver.
You don't tend to get writing credits for drumming anyway, and especially not when you join and existing band, but the facts are he nailed the drumming and to my mind has been the most effective GNR drummer to date.
I don't really understand why people around these parts dislike him. Sure he slept with some groupies and got a bit kinky - but who wouldn't after dealing with fame and spending that long touring etc- it's part of the lifestyle. He also speaks his mind a little - sure he called Axl out for bagging Slash at rehersal, and he called the VR guys out for auditioning people who weren't at their level. He wasn't wrong about either of those points.
I just find it funny how everyone seems to hate Matt, the guy may not be a saint but he's probably one of the least questionable characters in a band like GNR.
Tell me again how Matt shouldn't have fucked some chicks on tour, but it was OK for Slash to shoot up the jetboy guy, Axl to beat his wives and Izzy to deal drugs
#2019 Re: Guns N' Roses » Update from Izzy Stradlin » 532 weeks ago
To continue to play Devil's Advocate.....
I dunno how Adler continues to be friends with Slash and Duff.
Only in GNR land could Slash play and plan the reunion tour with frank then "throw Adler a bone" by agreeing to do a couple of charity songs with him.
If you look at it from Steven's perspective, it's probably hard to take. It's a guy who introduced him to drugs. Who fired him from the greatest band in the world because of drug use, while being a junkie himself. Who chose the replacement over him when it was time to try fame without Axl in Velvet Revolver. Who has ignored your pleas for a reunion for 20+ years. Who rejoins GNR without you and launches the big reunion shows using the old branding but playing with the bands 4th stand-in for you.
That's not a "friendship" i'd bother turning up to either.
#2020 Re: Guns N' Roses » Izzy reportedly in GN'R and wrote new music » 533 weeks ago
I still think they'll go more the route of Motley Crue's "Red, White & Crue" set, that featured three new songs. One rocker. One ballad. One cover. Boom, tour behind it for at least a year, if not more.
Considering how long Axl tends to take to record - even on UYI - that would make sense - a handful of songs is an achievable target - an album has a lot of psychological pressure - even for the old guys - it has to stack up. 2 or 3 songs not so much.
The easy thing to do would be to grab 2 songs from the vault that are less industrial and rock them up with Slash and Duff overdubbed. Extra value if they can find one with some 1999 era vocals as then it will really sound like Axl.
I doubt it would happen but I still fancy some redone CD1 songs. Considering the alternate 'don't cry' and slower 'you're crazy' there's some precedent for it.
Something like "This I love" with the alternate high pitch axl vocals from the leak, and then with Slash added. Go nicely on a hits record me thinks.
