#2081 Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy Total Sales » 898 weeks ago

I was chatting to Sic this morning and he showed me an interesting graph of some sales stats for CD that he had been keeping.  He was cool for me to post it here as well as his comments:

I've been tracking the chart success of CD ever since the release, comparing the Billboard (US/Best Buy) numbers with the global ones, retrieved from the United World Chart (www.mediatraffic.de). CD has now fallen below the Top 40 of global sales, which means I'm likely unable to follow its future course on a weekly basis. Hence, I figured I'd pass it on to you guys, to provide some perspective on how this thing's turned out. I can't completely vouch that every number is in the exact right place, but I reckon it's close enough. I also took the time to compare the sales to the Geffen/BestBuy deal, minding the 1,3 million copies sold beforehand. Turned out that as I write this, BB is still stuck with 2/3 of their stock. The overall sales are rather good from the labels point of view, as the non-US results pretty much equal the BB buyout. 1,3 Million on both sides, 2,6m in total.

Geffen/Interscope has therefore been raking up profit since Nov 23rd, as the BB presale pretty much nullified Ax's studio bill. Now, they're basically sitting on their asses, watching the non-US sales bringing home the bacon. There's no need to invest in GNR any further at the moment, because they're out for maximum overhead. US in particular is a very dead market as far as their interests are concerned - I mean, the sales are BB's headache until November at least. Why should the label spend money in benefitting them?

Right now, markets outside US are what matters. If Ax decides to hit the road in the summer, that oughta help. If he can tour consistently throughout the summer/fall and drop a new album in November (without BB), he should be able to roll on into the US and get some clout.

But CD ran its course years ago and a merciful release turned out to be the only option.

Hmmm I think I am going to have to get myself in on this discussion and get this album to listen to...

I really like one in a million - the electric guitar riff sounds damn cool mixed with the accoustic guitar.

^ ereeper nobody had commented on his looks so far in the posts?

But since you brought it up, when I had a look at his pics on his myspace I have to say he looks like a young girl in a lot of the pics.  18

And don't get me started on those choppers of his.  Largest mouthfull of teeth I have seen in a long time big_smile

I still think one of these guys should get the vacant guitar gig:

Hmmm I don't know what sort of stage prescence Snuffy would have James.  Didn't people used to have a hard time seeing him on Sesame Street for many years?  16

This dude used to be in Hanson right?

Man here we go I can just see the jokes following this if he gets the gig.

That said watching the various youtube vids the kid can really play.  Maybe Axl is hoping to reel in the youth market a bit more by injecting some youth into the lineup.

The fact that you pulled the pin on the relationship will probably be the catalyst.

Either he is just dumb as Axlin08 said and totally unaware of the way he was treating you (which is possible).

The other possiblity is he wasn't blind to what was going on, but simply wanted to end things on his terms, in his timeframe and when he is ready (probably once he has lined up another relationship to jump to).  You threw a spanner in the works and dented his ego - hence the reaction.

Some people are terrible at breaking up so instead they mentally leave the relationship and the thing stumbles on for a period of time until it comes to a head like this and the other person makes a decision.  They then act all indignant that you dared to break it off when things were - according to them - going alone fine.
