i'd love to hear to hear anything from the mid to late 90s. very interesting time period that's pretty much undocumented, music-wise.

mtv had a really interesting article from around this time where clink was still supposed to be the producer.

http://www.mtv.com/news/1429816/guns-go-clink/

Insiders say Rose has been writing with his guitarist friend Paul Huge, but as expected, Huge will not play a part in the album.

The drummer's chair remains a mystery. Ex-Pearl Jam member Dave Abbruzzese has been in rehearsals with Axl Rose, the name of former Nine Inch Nails drummer Chris Vrenna keeps surfacing as a contender, and Guns n' Roses management says Matt Sorum is still in the picture.

Two weeks ago at the Music West conference in Vancouver, Canada, Sorum said Rick Rubin was also involved in the project but a spokesperson for Rubin says it had been under discussion some time ago, but "it didn't work out." It was also denied by G n' R manager Doug Goldstein who said in effect that as much as the band loved and respected Rubin, he would not be producing the record.

Sorum also said that Guns n' Roses had recorded "4,800 hours of music"

(we assume over several years) and have "15 really strong songs" which will be ready "hopefully by next year." He added that the sessions were leaning towards a Soundgarden style of rock although there were tracks where the Nine Inch Nails influence was evident. He told the small crowd that Rose's new favorite saying has been "loop it, loop it!"

Duff McKagan, speaking at the same convention but in a separate interview, told his audience that things had come together in the studio for Guns n' Roses just over the last month and a half, but also confirmed MTV Online's earlier report that he was recording a solo album. "We've tracked 8 songs on it this week," said McKagan. He went on that since he's cleaned up his personal habits, "I'll probably be able to sing a little fuller."

axl is only on point when he has something to prove. when he turned up on stage with billy joel, he sang the best performance of highway to hell he's ever done. with ac/dc, he knew angus and the entire fanbase would not allow him to get on stage and bust through some whole lotta mickey. right now, this tour is clearly about just loading up their bank accounts. with slash & duff in the mix, axl's voice is pretty much irrelevant in terms of selling tickets. only marks like me are going to avoid going to shows because his voice is shot. the only way i'll get a ticket at this point is if they start busting out some new shit. i have no interest in seeing a half-assed (quarter-assed?) performance from axl with the same setlist from last year.

i wonder if the problems with his voice are starting to spread into the casual fanbase. "mickey mouse" was trending on the brazilian twitter during the rock in rio performance. i've also noticed that the gn'r snapchat tends to avoid clips where you can clearly hear axl singing like shit.

when was the last time where the proshot was more or less without both technical and voice problems? probably RAR 2006? (and that one was maybe the only one during post-1993 era? yikes )

yeah, that's the last one i can remember. what's really weird is the other pro shots from '06 weren't that strong. i remember being incredibly disappointed during the rock in rio show back then. if only bucket was still in the band for that rock am ring show... we would have the greatest new gnr show ever captured on camera.

i'd bet axl's nerves has something to do with it as well. when i'm really nervous, my voice can tremble. i'd imagine that would have an affect on singing as well, no?

man, i can't watch this. axl sounds worse than ever.

at this point, i don't think i'll be buying tickets for the detroit show coming up.

not sure how i can justify $150+ to watch axl stand up there and not even try anymore. he makes the '02 shows sound like '87.

it's not even just axl. has fortus always slaughtered rocket queen that badly? what a clown show.

actually, the album being called "not in this lifetime" is actually pretty cool.

it would complete the band's entire story through album titles.

appetite for desctruction - buncha hungry wild fuckers ready to fuck shit up and play loud ass rock n roll
use your illusion - the band literally used their illusions about life, each other and the band's musical direction to make the albums
chinese democracy - axl trying to do the impossible and crate a record with him as the figurehead and a supposed "democracy" of band members
not in this lifetime - the unthinkable finally happens and the band gets back together to make music

i'm glad folks took the time to listen to this and transcribe the interesting bits.

jericho is one of my all time favorite wrestlers and personalities, but holy fuck is he annoying on his podcast.

*makes the list*

i wish we could get an in-ear recording from another band member that included axl's jokes on them. the guy is legit hilarious; it's a shame we don't really get to see that side of him too often. his drunken post about rhcp miming their way through the super bowl performance still kills me.

You have to think that Angus probably talked some sense into him.

now that you say it, i bet angus spoke to axl unlike anybody else had for years at that point.

i could only imagine their conversation. it probably woke axl the fuck up out of the wacky dreamland in his head that he created together with beta. i wonder if he called him a wanker?

there's an oh my god instrumental? some fella just edited out the vocals, i'm assuming?

just got my copy of elephant man's alarm clock on vinyl. copy #114! it sounds fuckin' killer so far.

haven't heard the song final wars in years. it's like 9 amazing riffs all in one cohesive package. one of his best, imo.

hell, even bucket's throwaway riffs are better than the best riffs most dudes will come up with in their entire lifetime.

the mysterious bucketheadland album/dvd should be here by halloween. can't wait!

#270 Re: The Garden » Merryweather vs McGregor » 420 weeks ago

conor impressed the shit out of me last night! he looked pretty great the first 3 rounds.... even though mayweather wasn't really doing anything.

both men did what they were supposed to do: conor went for the early knockout and mayweather let him tire himself out and then unleashed with big ass combos. i thought it was really interesting that they pretty much went toe to toe the whole fight. i expected a lot more dancing, especially from mayweather.

conor was too tired to keep his hands up in those last 2 rounds. i'm actually glad the ref stopped the fight when he did. conor could have kept going, probably, but we don't need any more alis or fraizers on our hands. it's a shame watching interviews with those old boxers after they retire; due to all the concussions and whatnot, their speech is slurred to the point of incomprehension.

but i'm glad i bought the fight. everyone who came over threw me some money, so i pretty much broke even, minus the cost of beer!
