True. Terrible movies under the Star Wars banner. Worst case scenario we get another terrible movies albeit with more visually appealing effects(than the prequels) under the Star Wars banner.

Worst case scenario we get Die Hard 4. Flying under the banner doesn't mean it will be Star Wars.

And this would be a problem because Star Wars has never had strong female chaacters in scantily clad outfits?  tongue

That was classy. I'm talking sex scenes and dialogue of the sort "females can be as good jedi too!". You know, standard Hollywood hack fare.

That being said, if JJ is only there to get the stuff on tape, with Lucas and Kennedy making ALL the executive decisions, it could work. Abrams is a skilled entertainer, I'll give him that.

The worst fear has been realized. Disney will actually fuck this up from the get go.

Really cool. It was cold this morning (like 39 degrees). Wish it was like that on a regular basis here, but for people in snow, i'm sure that's a warming trend.

Sheeit, I've been waking up to 10 the whole week.

TSI is superfluous, but a good album. It's not the typical cash grab effort where the band phones it in. A lot of energy and imo their interpretations are mostly better than the originals.

Polls would definitely be more interesting if there was some criteria. Unfortunately less thinking generates more hits for advertising.

#3127 Re: Guns N' Roses » Guns N' Roses Vs. The Beatles » 694 weeks ago

Yeah, but that's just boring.

To me it's a matter of artistry combined with world wide popularity. Elvis and MJ have sold about as much, but they didn't write their own music by and large and I consider them mainly entertainers.

Innovation etc. counts for something, but it's usually a case of being first and shouldn't weigh too much if we are to try and "objectively" rank the quality of music. Either way Beatles wins.

GN'R could legitimately contend for the title of best hard rock band though, I think they and Zep are a notch above in that category.

Here, you'll need this to prise them from Axl's cold dead hands.

Although I voted for Zep, I could see how people might like GN'R better. With this one though, I just don't understand how one could argue that GN'R is better.

One could certainly prefer GN'R, but it's hard to make an argument against the Beatles for best band.

#3130 Re: Guns N' Roses » Guns N' Roses Vs Led Zeppelin » 695 weeks ago

Of course there are legitimate reasons for why that is the case, but that doesn't mean their music automatically becomes better. It just means most people will assume it's better due to the preconceived image.

Doubtful. In my experience any casual fan will struggle to be very specific about a band, even less so with Zep since they never were a singles band. My point is that Zep belongs to a group of bands a casual fan is not allowed to badmouth. Currently GN'R doesn't, and that makes for a very skewed public view.

If you take away the popular myth of Zep you're left with 4 brilliant musicians that made a string of very solid albums. GN'R were certainly less prolific, but they still conquered the world and left behind a handful of eternal hits. To be such a part of the public consciousness with so little output is immensely impressive.
