#351 Re: Guns N' Roses » Total Guitar Interview with Ron, DJ & Richard » 667 weeks ago
As for the Robin solo being harder to learn thing, I'd say that comes from Slash's riffing being closer to traditional rock that DJ is more suited to, than the jumbling of odd notes in the bizarre way that Robin plays...
Yeah, it's easier to learn something good that makes sense and you like than... the other stuff
I wonder if the poor bendings (and questionable tunings) on CD were intentional, or just... Robin.

Are you talking quality of music? Because that I don't agree with. Of course, it's all subjective.
Yeah, and while you may not like his actual songs, I think you can at least agree that guitar playing-wise, Slash is back to playing some of the best guitar of his career.
I was actually discussing with Monkey, that listening to UYI1 recently, I was hearing Slash riffing in there, that I could swear is not that different to some riffing going on throughout Apocalyptic Love.
So yeah, Slash is definitely back to being GN'R-level Slash again, at least in my opinion.
Yeah, I've just played UYI I for a long time. It was disappointing. Some great songs, but a lot was... well, mediocre. I will probably make a discussion thread about it.

I have this strange feeling that CD II will take as much time as CD I did.

If we have plenty of lead players, then I stick to my acoustic. Although an acoustic part in CD will make Axl overthink his next album even more.

If there's a few weeks left, then I can get back my LP-clone from my parents. I still know (better or worse) the solos, so if we start with a more basic track, then I can play the lead, until Monkey decides to join.

I'd like to take part in this, although I need to get the equipment to record the stuff.
Furthermore I haven't played my lead guitar for ages, I only have the acoustics (the 6- and the 12-string) here with me. But since GN'R always had 3 guitar lines, I think I could add a second, acoustic sound, if the song is suited. So I'd pass Perfect Crime, but I could take part in other songs.

Scabbie wrote:Dipping into the vault now could be a great strategy for Axl. Their live show is well honed, and by releasing another album they cold continue to tour and give time for the band to write as a group.
The other thing I'd like to see if Axl spend a bit of time with izzy and write a few gnr tunes together. I'm sure if they laid a foundation the rest of the group could write around it.
I'd be keen to ask bumble now he's been in the band for quite a while how he would approach writing guitar parts. His solo style seems so far apart from the classic rock vibe.
Anyway sorry went off track there.
That's a good point. If it's just about music and inspiration, why has Axl recruited Izzy for some tunes and just used Izzy solely to be GNR's main writer with himself? Done deal. That was pretty much GN'R of the past.
Call in DJ, Ron & Richard for solos to be worked over the songs, Tommy for bass... I don't see why that doesn't instantly create another new GN'R album within a year or less.
Answer is:
A-X-L

it was Axl feeling Slash's degenerative nature and unpredictability was a threat to the band's integrity and ultimately his financial security going into the future.
My favourite part of the post.
The WHOLE WORLD felt and feels it about ... Axl.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely agree with you. I think Axl felt that Slash was a threat - but not to the band, rather to his status. Anyway, this only proves more what a nutcase Axl is, knowing what he's done in the past 17 years.
Axl had a tale that if a bunch of young guys have a car together, than all of them wants to have the wheel, but none wants to take care of the needed repair, so it will be driven off the cliff. So one has to own it and there is only one who can have the wheel. Congratulations Axl, you got it. Your buddies all escaped, seeing your driving (leading) skills. And you really drove it off the cliff.
Kitchen philosophy and reality is a bitch, isn't it?

Sorry for the triple post. Besides excitement, the main reason was that the site didn't want to accept my first posts. (Beta, is that you?)
Had to rid of some strange characters, then it went through. After all I noticed the previous posts made the board, too.
