#361 Re: Guns N' Roses » Slash confirms “one or two” new songs by June » 208 weeks ago
Doesn't seem keen to do new lyrics.
When was anything last recorded with lyrics? The twat dance mix circa 2009? (By vocal style) I think is the most recent? Oh no actually maybe Rock the Rock for Warner bros?
Reunion single was 1980s vocals.
Rebuzz Tour was ~1999 recordings vocally and interestingly in the places in Hardschool that needed new vocals they just ripped parts out of Mac Daddy....
I mean I wanna be wrong and him to release all these songs finished, but everything post the AC/DC tour suggests we might be up for the 1999 songs redone with slash over original vocals then a long silence.

The story about the downs teen sitting in the chair is very sad.
I'm not sure if society wise the solution to that is aborting him from the start though.
I worry that's the road to a eugenics themed society.
Like to take it to extremes...my life is pathetic from the perspective of a wealthy person living in Monaco...but I'd rather fix my life than be put out of my misery. Easier said than done I guess though.

I wonder if Trump was just the beginning of modern celebrity candidates.
I mean he's kinda a polarising candidate, as mitch points out there's blatant reasons he would be distasteful to some, so like what stops someone else who is famous but more universally likeable from running?
Like some of the hollywood elite have cults of personality around them that would be far more popular than trump.

Yeah it goes deeper than facebook but it's about the period where facebook came out that things went downhill I think.
Social Media has not been good overall I don't think, but also it was like the whole internet became corporatised and powered by the existing societal powers or something. There was a really interesting period first where like the money interests didn't take it all that seriously yet.
#365 Re: Guns N' Roses » GN’R Cover Bands » 216 weeks ago
I got really into a local GNR cover band around 2004 or so.
Was good cos back then Slash was in VR so there was no GNR on the menu from him other than the odd brownstone/used to love her moment...and Axl was in limbo and playing with robin anyways....meanwhile my local band was smashing out reasonable reproductions of civil war etc. Sort of kept the music alive in that rap age.
Good times.

Interesting post Randall.....
I agree with a lot of your points but I feel like there's a distinction between communism and reasons why capitalism requires competition to avoid monopolies from ruining it.
I feel like most of the concerns you raise relate to misuse of monopolistic power, for example if Spotify decided to pull all music by white people, in theory we should be able to go to dozens of other providers who don't. Sadly in the tech sphere it hasn't gone that way as a handful of businesses control everything.
In theory we have anti-trust/competition laws to prevent monopolies from getting out of hand, but I think in practise it hasn't worked.
Anyway, what I'm saying is that identifying something as bad because it is a monopoly that is capable of abuse doesn't mean it's communism even when communism has monopolies.
Yes, 80 years ago the US did this. Our courts have since ruled it was unconstitutional and those harmed by them have been compensated as much as people can be compensated for a violation of personal autonomy. But your nation didn't allow non-whites to immigrate until the late 1970s and is locking up its citizens in camps at this very moment. Isn't there an island your nation maintains where it keeps all would-be economic migrants from entering the mainland? Weird that an act from nearly a century ago is your go to example rather than the current and much more recent actions of your own nation.
I didn't list this example to give shit to the USA, I'm quite fond of the USA.
My point is that governments do stuff sometimes that is against the wider values of the community or against the general ideas of the nation (eg later deemed to be unconstitutional) and this does not there is a global conspiracy by the elites to enslave us or end democracy or create a one world government or anything else. They are just isolated incidents where someone did something less than ideal.
But more than anything it shows how weak your population is if they allow government agents to force them into quarantine camps for having an illness
This isn't really something that's happening in the way you make it sound. Like during the height of the pandemic we closed state borders in an attempt to control the spread which was partially successful but of course destructive to the economy. Now that the majority of the population has been vaccinated (which reduces the severity) and the omicron version has been determined to be harder to stop and often more mild we've taken the approach of dropping most restrictions and opening up borders for travel.

Yeah to me the elephant in the room VR wise is always like why didn't they do Slash's solo record as a VR record with multiple famous fill in singers? It would fit with the VR "supergroup" monkier...and could have been a transition record before moving on with Myles as the new guy....I mean he can sing scott's range easily.....there's no reason if they actually liked each other that Slash's entire conspirators project couldn't have been the continuation of VR.....

Your own Prime Minister called you all sheep just a few months ago. How much more obvious does it need to get?
Actually, that comment is an attack on the premier (similar role to an American state governor) of a particular state which still implemented covid lockdowns and travel restrictions.
Basically the Prime Minister is from our Liberal party which despite the name is actually a conservative party - it's our mainstream republican style party. He does not like the premier of Western Australia because the premier comes from the Labour party (mainstream moderate left wing party - similar to Democratic party in USA). So they have to hate each other.
The premier's approach through covid was to lock down the whole state from travel within Australia - which gave them a period of relative normalcy while the rest of the states had uncontrolled outbreaks. The PM and his party in other states decided to pursue a policy of "open up and ride it out because the economy needs to" and the WA premier has been against it because of the health costs/deaths etc.
So his comments are designed to belittle the opposing side of politics basically. He probably also thinks using a sheep/farming analysis makes him seem more simple and relatable and down to earth - when really he is like most of our leaders a multi-millionare who owns 6 or 7 properties including some in places like NYC. However his party retains power via a coalition with the local farming party - the Nationals who are a conservative party but more focuses on no nonsense rural lifestyle and traditional values (think southern american kinda outlook). So basically evoking a metaphor of getting sheep through a gate simultaneously insults the other team and also makes it seem like he is a good old boy farmer...when in reality he's anything but. But that's politics.

If we just pretend to forget for the moment that this is blatant communism,
How is it blatant communism?
Bands are private businesses that create music (eg Aerosmith) , they sell/lease it to giant public/private companies who make them famous (eg Sony Music), those businesses then make the content available to consumers for profit via publicly listed corporations that run that service platforms (eg Spotify).
Every stage of it involves non-governmental public/private ownership of assets and every stage of it is produced for profit - mostly going to giant capitalist corporations....it may be late stage capitalism even...but i can't see how it's even close to communism.
why is this a good thing? The thing about owning something is the fact you have the freedom to do what you want with it. I still have my copy of "Lies". And I plan to spin it until I expire. Including the very best song on that EP, which you already can't listen to on the reissue and definitely won't hear on Spotify
If you're referring to one in a million it's actually on spotify still at the moment, but I take your point that the problem with rental is that you don't enjoy all the privileges of ownership and are subject to the whims of the service provider.
But it's a trade off...I can also listen to the entire back catalogue of some random band a buddy suggests without going and risking $30 on each of those albums unheard....so there's pros and cons.
In some places now they are denying health care to RUSSIANS.
I wouldn't support that...on the other hand didn't the USA round up all Japanese citizens for a time during ww2 just incase? I don't see poor ideas and bad behaviours as evidence that there's some global plan for us.

I just (as in, now) rewatched the Rise of Velvet Revolver. My slightly inebriated just-had-kid-yesterday take is everyone associated with GnR is a piece of shit in some way, so nobody should be surprised with the results.
Congratulations on the kid
I've been reliving the VR days watching boots last couple of nights so I might have another watch of that tonight...but I know what you mean..I mean they're all amazing musicans...but you notice the same things over and over in the way the bands evolve and change line ups and stuff.
