#3841 Re: Guns N' Roses » What's your favorite guitar solo on the album? » 876 weeks ago
Robin's solos in Better and Street of Dreams are my favourite's. Mindless shredding or weird sounding guitaring of Bucket and Bumble doesn't do much for me.
#3842 Re: Guns N' Roses » Brain & Frank - a question about the album credits » 876 weeks ago
All I know is that Frank replaced Brain's drumming on the song Chinese Democracy with much inferior drumming, and it's a damn shame!
Brain played some killer bass drum stuff on the leak, and Frank's version doesn't have any of that cool stuff on there...

i was a huge fan of stp as well... so take that for what it is... the songs are great..it's exactly what i expected. i hold CD closer to my heart cuz of the drama involved.. and i almost always gave axl the edge over slash. i was kinda bummed out that the material that they wrote with izzy was pretty much scrapped.. (save "do it for the kids/bomb")..and some of the songs BEGGED for axl..( "big machine" )... 7/10
libertad was another story altogether...some interesting, catchy stuff.. but too fucking quirky for it's own good.. while contraband was clearly GNR territory musically ... libertad had no distinguising features.. it was like they tried to "forge their own sound" and ended up making a sexed up "shangri la-dee-da" it's not a bad record.. i just expected much more...5/10( and that's being generous bacause i like the musicians involved)I have never thought of Libertad as a sexed-up Shangri-La. Interesting.
I wouldn't say that. I really like Shangri-La DeDa, I think it's STP's finest album. Libertad is far from being even close to that.

Been a while since we've heard anything new from BLS, looking forward to a new album in 2009!

I'm curious who will the guitarist be too. Would it be Jim Martin, or the guy who replaced him?
#3847 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Re-Visiting Contraband » 876 weeks ago
Yep, Contraband is a great rock album. 4 big singles: Slither, Set Me Free, Fall To Pieces and Dirty Little Thing, and the rest is solid throughout too.
#3848 Re: The Sunset Strip » U2 "Reinvent Rock" on New Album » 876 weeks ago
Regardless of whether they reinvent anything, I'm looking forward to this.
I was a bit in the fence about U2 until I saw that U2:3D movie recently. And there's no denying the talent of these guys.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I think this is an unfair comparison. If Axl released CD under his own name or a new band name, then it would be more comparable to sales to VR.
But Guns N' Roses is/was one of THE biggest names in rock n roll and music in general. That alone should guarantee a few more sales for CD than say VR would get.
But that said, Contraband has more radio-friendly songs on it than CD does. And that's not necessarily saying Contraband is radio-friendly, but rather that 4 minute rock songs go over better on radio than 6 minute love-torn songs or industrial rockers do.
And I still think Contraband is a solid effort. 4 killer singles: Set Me Free, Slither, Fall To Pieces, Dirty Little Thing and the rest was solid as well. I still crank it from time to time and it's enjoyable all the way through.
