It’s strongly rumored that at tonight’s 12-12-12 concert to benefit Hurricane Sandy victims tonight at NYC’s Madison Square Garden will feature another huge collaboration, this one between Paul McCartney and the surviving members of Nirvana, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, according to an article that ran on UK’s the Sun. Pat Smear, who played guitar for Nirvana during their last 6 months, will also be part of the reunion.
“I didn’t really know who they were,” McCartney said of Grohl and Novoselic. “They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said ‘Whoa? You guys haven’t played together for all that time? And somebody whispered to me ‘That’s Nirvana. You’re Kurt.’ I couldn’t believe it.”
Nirvana are rumored to perform a new song with McCartney, that they recently wrote while jamming.

Halfway There doesn't belong on this album. I've come to that conclusion. It's a Cornell solo song.
Axlin, I agree that the more pop-driven Cornell doesn't belong on a Soundgarden album, but he does serve a purpose outside of SG. The guy has a massive amount of talent and writes great songs in many styles. It's nice to see him have a solo career and be able to showcase those other styles. Another way of looking at it- if he only wrote like he does in SG, his solo career would be a less talented SG cover band and it would cheapen the SG legacy.
Please, in the future, keep songs like Halfway There, which is not a bad song at all, away from SG albums. It has a place, and that isn't it.

Scott's plan may end up working. He's clearly fishing for offers, and they will start coming in. Slash's comments here will only fuel the speculation and gossip and keep the VR name out there. Question is whether or not the offers will be enticing enough to get Slash to co-exist with Scott once again.

Dandelion played on the iPod today while I was driving and it made me think of this album. If that song can have a guitar solo, why aren't there more actual solos on King Animal? I know not every song needs to have a solo in it, but it seems like Kim was underplayed on this album.

After listening to this album a lot since it came out, I can say that Attrition is the closest thing to filler on this album. It doesn't do it for me. I tend to skip it a lot.
Favorites for me are Been Away, Crooked Steps, Rowing, Worse Dreams, Bones of Birds, Non State, Taree, Black Saturday, Eyelids Mouth. All tracks I don't skip. I'm tempted to throw in Halfway There, but it doesn't sound like SG. I can only hear Cornell solo featuring the members of SG.
#36 Re: The Sunset Strip » What Is The Saddest Song Ever Written? (RS Article) » 656 weeks ago
This list is bad. Not saying those aren't sad songs, but I can think of a few huge omissions.
Tears in Heaven by Clapton?
Hurt by NIN? (Or Cash)
How are those songs not on there?
What about Nutshell by AIC? Not only are the lyrics sad, but its Laynes most emotional performance.
I gave up on RS a long time ago. They are far past relevance.
Replace 4, 5 and 9 with these songs and the list becomes better. The order is a whole different issue.
#37 Re: The Sunset Strip » Velvet Revolver to Reunite in 2013 Says Weilamd » 657 weeks ago
Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland is yet again using the press to try and coax Slash into doing a Velvet Revolver reunion. He has told SouthFlorida.com that Velvet Revolver is “definitely” his priority over Stone Temple Pilots, even though Velvet Revolver isn’t currently together. Weiland added, “The rest comes when it comes. Promise.” He fished even more for some big money offers, “I’m definitely excited about the prospect of reforming VR in 2013. I’ve already spoken to some of the guys who are interested in it. I kind of feel like we’re all sort of itching to come back ever since we played that impromptu set back in January [in Hollywood, Calif.], and Duff and I have talked. I didn’t talk to Slash in the beginning because of the Christmas stuff I was doing, but he wants it. I finally figured out a way to tour and make money out of it.”
After Weiland lied in May stating that Velvet Revolver were back together writing and set to tour in late 2012, Slash responded by saying Weiland was “out of his mind” and that he did not want to play with him again, stating that he gets along better with Weiland when they don’t have the baggage of being in a band together. Slash is currently on tour with his solo act that features Myles Kennedy, and has European dates planned through all of February into early March. He will also be playing Ozzfest next May in Japan. Slash’s solo career has been very successful, with solid album sales and live attendance.
Weiland also discussed his current band Stone Temple Pilots, which yet again is in limbo. Weiland stated, “I think we need to take a break right now. We kind of got burned on each other because we played the same sets for too long. It became this thing about, ‘Let’s just make money.’” Weiland said in late 2011 that Stone Temple Pilots would likely have a new album out in 2012. It’s very disappointing that after all of these years STP still can’t figure out that they work best when they’re making music together.
STP are done again (likely due to their album being DOA and ticket sales low,) Scott needs money- hey! Lets get VR back together.
Scott may end up winning. He's putting the name out there more frequently now. They will get offers. Worked with STP.

I've never listened to their version because I'm deathly afraid to. Is it that bad?
Also john;
Do You Realize is SUCH a great tune!
Have you heard other covers that the Flips have done? It's like that. They do it their way, and Wayne sings it his way. It's very different.

Didn't Slash already respond to similar comments when Weiland blabbed something about a VR reunion not too long ago. Slash said something along the lines of "he'd never be in a band with Scott again" or something like that.
The only way I'd welcome a VR reunion, is if they returned to the heavy guitar style of Contraband.
I think he'd do it again. He's had a great solo run, Myles will probably want to go back to Alter Bridge, and that frees Slash to do VR again.
I'd like to hear Weiland do something heavy again. And see him kick ass again. I may forgive him for the Christmas album is he's part of another Contraband style album. One can hope.
Plus, it would be nice to hear Slash in a band atmosphere again.

WWC is amazing. Love that first album. It would be great to see their next album be totally off the wall and experimental. They're obviously back into their groove, now it's time for them to push this thing as far as it can go. They are all amazing musicians. I'd love to see them remove any pretense to what they should sound like and go ape shit.
Bones of Birds is now my favorite song. Probably because I have a daughter and that song sums up my fears perfectly.
