What thousands? The red thread from people that were actually in close proximity of the buildings, is that they heard and felt multiple explosions. Same goes for the news coverage that morning. What people claim after the media machine had done it's work is a whole nother ball game.

And please, from the elevator shaft? We're talking 1200ft here, not to mention the elevators themselves. How does that explain the utter destruction of the parking lot? This isn't the Matrix.
