The Batman never triumphs, that's the point. He's a tortured soul fighting an endless, ultimately losing battle. Along the way he'll touch many peoples lives, many for better, some for worse. But he'll never triumph. He'll never conquer the obstacles he's imposed on himself. He's a heroic persona wrapped in a nightmare visage and trapped in a living hell of his own creation. The better comic writers (Frank Miller) have understood that. I'm glad Nolan gets it, too.

Outside of the editing though, because there really is very little character development, and Maggie as an actress in this movie.
The entire movie is structured as a character study and dissection of character and motive. There's little else besides character development. The action is just window dressing and even it only serves to advance the predonimantly character driven plot. I'm sorry, that's the only time I've ever seen this film criticized for its defining aspect.

The number of blu-rays currently available at under $20 is staggering. You just have to look. These launch prices are still easily half what the common price of SD DVD was around its launch. I rode that trend and remember it well. Walmart prices new blu releases about the same as the title on DVD. I don't know where you're reading these articles, but I write them for a living. Blu-ray is experiencing unprecedented growth as a format. There is a concern that with the current economy that growth will plateau, but good news for consumers is that the price of players is coming down while there availability and market awareness is spiking. PS3 isn't the only outlet for this technology, although it's preferred by most (myself included). Like I said, whether you like it or not, the studios are pulling the plug on SD DVD early to usher in this new product. People buy what they're told. They don't buy the previous model of any other electronics software "just because," so why should home video be any different? There's a laserdisc angle, I get that. That's how I would have preferred this format marketed itself. That's not the case any longer. The studios want SD DVD gone, and the marketing campaigns of any current or upcoming releases should be proof of that.

Blu-ray is actually experiencing a far warmer welcome by an already more tech savvy consumer market than DVD experienced throughout the same time period of its launch a decade ago. Its not only not dying, the format has a heretofore unseen push by the major studios who have dumped so much money and effort into its becoming the next defacto video format they've basically (and prematurely) pulled the plug on their own DVD brands to usher in, by force, this new format. So far, consumers have acclimated nicely. The further push into HD becoming more mainstream accessible will only see growth for blu-ray. Is this a good thing? Not necessarily. As a blu-ray collector, I'd be just as pleased to see the SD DVD format survive for the foreseeable future with blu-ray acting to serious film aficionados the way laserdisc acted next to VHS. Things have grown faster than I originally anticipated.

Last week, to kick off our look back at 2008, we asked you to tell us your favorite album covers of the past 365 days. The masses have spoken, and thanks to some ballot stuffing on behalf of a Brandon Flowers’ fan site, the Killers’ Day & Age cover with its Photoshop Stained Glass Effect desert landscape was victorious, beating out Metallica’s shrapnel coffin, a pair of epic Lil Wayne images, Kanye’s deflated balloon and priceless masterpieces by Pieter Bruegel (Fleet Foxes) and Eugene Delacroix (Viva La Vida). Of course they are, and very few other films this past year deserve the accolades I hope The Dark Knight reaps by hitting the refresh button.

Searching for his missing sister, Clay heads up to the eerie woods of legendary Crystal Lake where he stumbles on the creaky remains of rotting old cabins that lie in wait behind moss-covered trees. And that's not the only thing hiding under the brush. Against the advice of police and cautions from the locals, Clay pursues what few leads he has with the help of a young woman he meets among a group of college kids up for an all-thrills weekend. But they are about to find much more than they bargained for. Little do they know, they've entered the domain of one of the most terrifying specters in American film history - the infamous killer who haunts Crystal Lake armed with a razor-sharp machete...Jason Voorhees.

Directed by Marcus Nispel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre '03) and starring Jared Padalecki, Danielle Panabaker, Amanda Righetti, and Derek Mears as Jason Voorhees, the latest Platinum Dunes franchise reboot opens Friday, February 13.

WB to Re-Release The Dark Knight Jan. 23
Warner Bros. Pictures is bringing The Dark Knight back for a return engagement in theaters and IMAX on January 23, 2009, giving audiences one more chance to see the film on the big screen. The film will re-open nationwide, it was announced today by Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Pictures President of Domestic Distribution.
In making the announcement, Fellman stated, "'The Dark Knight' is a crowning achievement in every sense of the word. We wanted to provide one more opportunity for moviegoers to experience it on the big screen as it was meant to be seen."
One of the most celebrated and successful films of this or any year, The Dark Knight has been hailed by both critics and audiences since its original release last July. The film garnered widespread acclaim for its artistic and technical achievements, including the work of its outstanding cast and its director, Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Christopher Nolan (Memento).
Led by Christian Bale, reprising his role from Batman Begins, and Academy Award® nominee Heath Ledger (Brokeback Mountain), the ensemble cast also includes Academy Award® winner Michael Caine (The Cider House Rules), Gary Oldman (the "Harry Potter" films), Aaron Eckhart (Thank You for Smoking), Maggie Gyllenhaal (Stranger Than Fiction), and Academy Award® winner Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby).
In addition, critics and moviegoers alike applauded Nolan's revolutionary use of IMAX cameras to film some of the most challenging action sequences ever created—a first for a major feature film.
Nolan directed The Dark Knight from a screenplay written by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. Charles Roven, Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan produced the film, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull serving as executive producers.
Collaborating with Nolan behind the scenes were two-time Oscar®-nominated director of photography Wally Pfister (The Prestige, Batman Begins), Oscar®-nominated production designer Nathan Crowley (The Prestige), Oscar®-nominated editor Lee Smith (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World) and Oscar®-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (Topsy-Turvy). The music is by Oscar® winner and multiple Oscar® nominee Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, Gladiator) and seven-time Oscar® nominee James Newton Howard (Michael Clayton, The Fugitive), who previously collaborated on the score for Batman Begins.
Originally released on July 18, 2008, The Dark Knight broke virtually every possible box office record to become the top-grossing film of 2008 and the second-highest grossing movie (domestically) of all time.

Seen it multiple times, am picking up the blu-ray, and will still be seeing it again in theaters. I'm pumped for this re-release.

This is a case where GN'R fans DO need to corrupt the results. Because as an actual album, CD is not getting the credit it deserves due to horrible sells, a mixed press, and no promo.
Voted GN'R to show the love.
In reality... I totally agree with Von. My favorite album of the year by far, has been Nostradamus by Priest.
Damn, now I feel guilty
