The sound on the whole thing was terrible. I thought they were just cutting out swear words left and right until the sound was doing the same thing in Sweet Caroline.

This is the time to bring out TWAT. That song more than any other song links the old to the new imo.
There's no point in doing a single just for the sake of doing a single. If they have no intention of promoting it right now, wait until you do to release a single.

I don't see the Slash bashing. They are right. Slash is an amazing blues rock guitarist. He has occasionally stepped out of that mold with limited success, but he's one of, if not the best at what he does, so he sticks to it. That's ok. Embrace it. Even if he did branch way out, the truth is it would probably go as unnoticed as CD did. The general public wants to hear Slash being Slash, not Slash trying to be BH or EVH.
There's far less Slash bashing than Axl bashing (if you want to call it that) going on here. That is pretty much undeniable. Yes, there are reasons for that, but it doesn't change the facts.

Not liking the music can lead to anger over the other issues, it's not necessarily the anger over the other issues that lead to not liking the music. I just want to be clear about that.

For me it has nothing to do with choosing sides, it has to do with the music I enjoy. I will always prefer blues based rock to industrial rock until the day I die. So I prefer VR over the new GnR. That said, there are new GnR songs I like and VR songs I can't stand. There are a couple old GnR songs I don't like at all. It's all about the music, it always has been. It has nothing to do with Slash or Axl the person, it has to do with the music they produce.
My favorite GnR album is UYI II and that may be the most Axl influenced album of all of them prior to CD. Estranged is my 2nd favorite GnR song after Locomotive, and while Slash shines on that song, it's Axl's song. Most of my least favorite Slash songs are on the 2nd Snakepit album. I'm more than willing to give Axl a chance. I gave CD a chance. It isn't up to par. I would love to hear a stripped down version of the album someday - I think it could change my opinion on some of the songs if I could actually hear the song.
I wish them both success going forward. I'm not excited about new VR or new GnR, but I will continue to check both of them out. I will always be interested in what Axl and Slash do whether seperate or together (unlikely) because they both have enough of a body of work that I enjoy that I will ALWAYS be interested in what they are up to. Hopefully that's how most of us feel.

eh - you get what you deserve. It sucks for him that he's created a situation that people have such strong feelings about him. It goes with the territory of being rich and famous and accomplishing more than most of us do. One of the many, many reasons that I would never want to live in the public eye.
I still don't think there was anything wrong with what I said originally and if you guys would stop harping on it, this thread can die away as it should. There are more posts complaining about me that actually wishing the guy a happy birthday (which I did btw). I get it - some people didn't like what I said. Noted.
