#5851 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy release date? » 917 weeks ago

madagas, I want both too, I'm just not sold like some other people are that CD is going to be good music.  What I've heard so far leads me to believe it isn't going to be a good album overall, though there will be some good songs on it.  Hopefully there are new songs or better mixes/production on the songs we've heard to make them more listenable to me.

I also agree with your 2nd point, and believe that will ultimately be what happens.  1) CD release through best buy; 2) general release after the best buy contract expires with additional songs/live performances and/or a box set to wrap up the CD era; 3) reunion.  This may happen as quickly as 6-12 months (based on the bb contract and if they tour or not) or could take a couple years.  I'm assuming best buy doesn't have exclusive rights to the album forever, but I could be wrong.  I don't know a lot about these deals and how they work.

So the only opinion allowed in a thread about Pitman is how cool he is?  that sounds a lot like censorship to me and I've been assured that isn't what this site is about, so you may want to rethink your stance russ.

Any "reunionists" out there care very much about CD madagas.  CD being released opens the doors for what 90% (likely an undererstimate, but I'll be generous) of music fans really want from Guns N' Roses.  If you think that most people wouldn't jump on board in 2 seconds if there was a reunion tomorrow, you're only fooling yourself.

It's a pipe dream for anybody to think the world is really waiting with baited breath for an Axl Rose solo album under the disguise of GnR.  No successful band has ever gone on with one member of that band (two if you want to count Dizzy) and succeeded anywhere near the level of the old band.  Not one.  Even the supergroups never really succeed and they merge several members of successful bands.  Why do you guys think this is going to be the one exception to the rule?

Can CD have a decent hit or two on it?  Sure, that has happened in the past in these situations.  Is the public going to be begging for or lining up for another Axl Rose solo album after this one?  No.  So what is the logical next step?

Azoff has an established track record.  The public wants it.  There will be huge money involved and I'm not foolish enough to think that money (and the ego boost that goes with it) isn't a motivating factor for these guys.  None of the band members have ever said no to the possibility of it under the right circumstances.  Azoff has worked in difficult situations before...he can bring sides together that people thought would never see eye ot eye again, so don't think GnR is any different.

I see both sides of this discussion and neither side is wrong.  It's fairly obvious that CD is intended to be released this year.  It's also pretty obvious that there are signs indicating that a reunion is AT THE VERY LEAST a realistic possibility in the relatively near future (next 2 years).  You guys are all trying so hard to prove the other side wrong...neither side is wrong.  Anything is possible from CD being pulled and a reunion early next year to CD coming out followed by 3 more GnR albums and no reunion ever happens (and everything in between).  No matter what happens, isn't NOTHING the only really bad scenario?

One is a bunch of coincidences and hopes and the other is a bunch of facts and reasons.

Both sides are filled with coincidences and hopes.  Let's be totally honest here.  GnR hasn't said a thing publicly.  Nobody has said anything officially about CD being released, therfore, it is all assumptions based off of things that have happened or have supposedly happened.

To me it's obvious Axl and his crew hate Slash's guts and that's all you need to know to know that it's not gonna happen anytime soon.

This is really the ONLY issue with a reunion.  We don't even really know how Axl feels right now, but we do know that the yes men hate Slash because brining Slash back and giving him membership in the band (or whatever agreement they can come up with for the reunion tour) means they lose thier power.

Really?  I don't.  It hasn't been his primary focus for 14 years, why would it suddenly be a priority now?  Axl's primary focus seems to be doing whatever the hell he wants to do (musically and otherwise) and doing it at his pace.

IF he's suddenly in a hurry to get it done, there's something else motivating him other than CD.  I'm not saying reunion, I'm not saying anything other than SOMETHING is motivating him IF that's really the case.

Wrong.  My guess was an actual date even though I figured it would never come out.  I don't remember exactly what it was, but if I remember the rules right, you couldn't go past the date, so i think I was in pretty good shape.  I had sometime in 2009 or 11 I think...it was so long ago and so unimportant at the time.

Right! 22

you may have picked an actual date but if you say it's never coming out you are contradicting yourself. morally speaking ofcourse, you lose. whether you win the contest or not.

i was just playing around by the way but you always have to be so argumentative don't you.

I always have to be?  I don't think I told you that you lose...I don't think I was even talking specifically to you.  So yes, if you tell me I lose, expect me to show you just how wrong you are.

Unlike most people here, I can separate what I think from what is realistic.  So I can quite easily think it is never coming out, and still have a date that might make sense for whatever reason without risking my moral life on it.  Heck, I STILL don't really think it's coming out, but I can see the signs that say it COULD be coming out.  That makes me realistic.

Buzz, how the hell is he the worst thing to happen to Gnr? My god, he actually seems like an interesting, artistic guy....not your stereotypical cock rocking Sunset Strip pooffy haired clown. He hangs with the guys from Tool, does his own thing, plays a little in Axl's Orchestra....seems like a very cool guy to me.

It's actually pretty easy.  He adds NOTHING to the majority of the songs - in most cases, he subtracts from the songs.  He should not be a member of the band.  If they want to use him as an additional musician on a couple songs, I have no problem with that, but GnR never has and never will have a need for a full time effects guy.  All he does is bring clutter to the table no matter how interesting he might be as a person.

Hanging with Tool isn't a plus in my book, but to each their own.

Chris is one of the best things that happened to GNR.

If you listen to those 2002 soundboards of The Blues you can hear the Lusk influence. Better is a prime example of having Pittman's fingerprints all over it.

His fingerprint is the thing that keeps the song from being better.  Clutter, clutter, and more clutter.

My guess (as it has always been) is CD comes out and then there's a reunion.  It's the only thing that makes any sense and explains the lack of promotion, lack of news on any of the "band members", etc.  The album is being released through Best Buy to get the money upfront, contribute an album to satisfy the recording contract, and prepare for the real cash cow.

I've always said I wanted CD to come out ASAP because a reunion wouldn't happen until it did, I just never thought it would actually come out.  I think I win the free copy of CD that was offered at the old RoV site...my date is going to end up being the closest.

Yeah I was way off with my guess.  I forget when that was, 2006 I think?  I chose November of THAT year I think.  At least I had the month right.  Do I get a consolation prize?

I don't see a reunion happening, not anytime soon at least.  However, if Robin doesn't come back, say Tommy re-joins the Mats, then anything could happen.  But I expect Tommy to stay put and I even think Robin may actually return now that things are starting to shape up.  Give the new or current lineup at least one tour to promote a record that's theirs that's actually released first.

They already toured to support the album (multiple times)...they even quit the last one to finish the album (it had nothing to do with poor ticket sales).  I think it's far more likely that they don't tour for CD than they do tour for it.  I believe the next tour will have Slash and Duff in the band (for better or worse).
