Finally pre-ordered both CD and vinyl today. I'd meant to all week, but decided to hold out for the mp3 single. Pretty badass feeling right now. It's happening.

Don't know if this fairly recent interview was posted yet. I don't frequent the VR section too much these days, but some of this is rather telling.

I for one don't want a live video, cut and paste or otherwise. If this album is Axl taking his Illusions to 11, then I want videos that blow even the "trilogy" out of the water.

durden, I'd like to go ahead and say that for a "new" poster, I really appreciate the contributions you've made to the discussion that takes place on these boards. I always enjoy reading your posts and look forward to your replies in my own threads. Thanks for jumping right in.

Lets take the fanboy blinders off for a second. All these tracks are what would be known as 'deep album' cuts. In GNR terms, its an album filled with Breakdown, So Fine, and Locomotive type songs. It isn't an AFD type situation with monster singles lying in wait.
When Brain compared it to Zeppelin II, maybe he was referring to how that record needed to be taken in as a whole. What made that a good album was the sum of its parts. It didn't have a Stairway to Heaven or a Kashmir to give it the legendary status. The experience was the record itself, not any cherry picked tracks.
One of the best assessments of this album's potential I've read so far.

Do I need to write more than that? Where's Axl? Where's the band? Falling short of the epic we all dreamed of for the past decade, this doesn't even register as an ordinary release. It's just ... subpar. There's no promotion save a few awkward TV spots. There's no video. A single was released without any fanfare. Two other tracks were debuted in a hurried fashion, also without any fanfare. Where's the Rolling Stone cover? Classic Rock? Cigar Afficionado? What's the lineup this month? Why the fuck does this thing feel like it's being pushed out of the way to settle some long standing debt Axl has to the label? Why does it seem like nobody besides Azoff, least of all Axl, actually wants to see this thing released at all? The rushed artwork? The haphazard tracklisting? The awkward and uncharacteristic retailer exclusive? I think this is being rush-released to make way for something else. Honestly. That something else might just be Axl becoming a hermit for the rest of his days and abandoning the industry altogether, but something's not right here.

durden, I respect that you're a fan of Pantera, but that would be horribly disrespectful to Dimebag. That aside, Slash's style it a much better fit for any Anselmo collaboration than Wylde's.

I'm sorry I missed this thread. Gunslinger continues to prove his coolness. Well done.

Absolutely. I think Slash works best in a blues heavy sound. There was always a forced sound with Weiland, trying to contain the guitar within the sound of Weiland's alt. rock radio vocals as well as some of his more glam rock sensibilities. Down III, apart from being an excellent album, is a great look at where Phil could take his vocals if he were to shack up with Slash and co. What VR needs most is balls, and Anselmo's not anything if not balls. Having said that and at the same time, the only members I'd be curious to see work with Anselmo are Slash and Duff. I don't particularly think this would work under the VR moniker, it's just a pairing I'd like to see.

That was great.
