#6561 Re: Guns N' Roses » What Did You Guys Think Of This Rant...? » 921 weeks ago
Well, if you're going to paint somebody as the bad guy, is it going to be the wifebeater that still hasn't grown up beyond biting security guards well into his forties and still blames everybody else for all his problems or the guy who is relatively soft spoken and almost always accepts at least some of the responsibility in what happened?
I like Slash as much as anybody and ultimately I blame Axl for the breakup. That doesn't mean that other people didn't factor in, but ultimately it was Axl's band. He owned the name and he controlled everything. Slash being stubborn was certainly a factor, but I think Izzy leaving and not having anybody around to be the link between the band and Axl was a bigger factor. It seems like it's always been the band vs Axl. He did his own thing, he showed up when he felt like it, he sent band members messages through their management, etc. That may have been because everybody in the band was fucked up all the time, but Axl wasn't a saint. They made it because they hung out together and had a common goal - as soon as that changed, all the things that lead to the breakup kept snowballing and nobody was strong enough to stop it.
It obviously wasn't one person's fault, but if you have to blame one person, it will always come back to Axl and his actions since the breakup further cement that in people's minds. It isn't coincidence that not only EVERY original band member left, but also several members of the post UYI lineups as well. There is only one common link between all of them: Axl Rose.
#6562 Re: Guns N' Roses » Interesting read on Axl, touring, albums in Slash's biography » 921 weeks ago
I look at it as very similar to the new band fans vs the old band fans. The fans of the new band don't want to give the old band members any credit because they feel it takes away from their band (somehow) and fans of the old band don't want to give the new guys credit for the same reason.
So far, the parts I've read seem to give a lot of the songwriting credits to the band and even some of the lyrical credits to the band. I have always thought that Axl's contributions to the sonwriting process were exaggerated, but I also believe the book gives him too little credit so far. We'll see if that changes.

I just don't like how some people are taking this as the definitive GnR story. I already see people using stuff out of this book to bash Axl. It really sucks.
I hope Axl writes a book one of these days.
I'm about half way through the book and so far Slash has been pretty fair with Axl. He's gone out of the way to mention that it's just Axl being Axl. The only time they were really pissed at Axl (so far) was the first time he blew off a show. Of course, Steven is still in the band where I'm at, so the big mess is yet to come.

That last line is what makes him perfect for Axl...especially the sniffing ass part.

I planned on getting the book eventually but I was in no rush..
however, it turns out my buddy is at an event with Slash right now.. long story short, he is bringing me back a signed copy of his book
Bastard!
Just kidding. Enjoy.

Pretty self explanatory question. I saw some comments in another thread that lead me to create my first poll.
#6567 Re: Guns N' Roses » If there is a reunion, where do people stand? » 921 weeks ago
I'd prefer Chinese Democracy and possible new albums from the current lineup.
But if a reunion happened, I'd only support it if they made a studio album. If it was only for touring, then it's obvious they just wanted some money, and in that case I wouldn't support it.
So I take it you don't support the current lineup touring?

Hilarious. Well, when you whore yourself out like Richard has over the years, getting stuck with any of the Inglesias' family is bound to happen sooner or later. At least it wasn't Julio and Willie singing To All the Girls I Loved Before.

If there was a reunion, everybody would be happy. Well, almost everybody. They might be happier if they had gotten CD, but no Guns N' Roses fan should be mad or boycott the prospect of a reunion. If Axl had a press release tomorrow saying he wanted to reunite the Original Lineup (or some form of it), Guns N' Roses would soar to the top search lists instantly of all the search engines and even those fans supporting Axl 100% would have to be onboard because it's what Axl wants.

buzzsaw wrote:russtcb wrote:You're telling me that you honestly think Axl Rose would have a hard time getting pretty much anyone on Earth's phone number? They all know a TON of the same people in the industry. Not to mention the fact that Axl was in NYC at the time where I'm sure Bach's worked with tons of people through the Broadway connection.
So Axl is just sitting around and says "I want to call Baz" and he texts him? I don't buy that for a second.
Come on Buzzsaw you're better then that. Axl living his life, chats with someone they start talking about Baz, he says you know I gotta get intouch with him.
Not everything both Baz or Axl do is for a reason business wise, they are old time friends, haven't you ever contacted or been contacted or ran into an old friend?
Not one I hoped to leech off of.
Seriously, I guess that's possible, but I highly doubt Axl's only friend was Bach. Why him and why not ANYBODY else? Why after 10 years of being a hermit? Why after not talking to Baz in ages? There's more to it somewhere. I'm not saying there's some big conspiracy, but it isn't as simple as people want to write it off as either. Maybe Baz helped Axl years ago and Axl thought he could help him now. Maybe they just had a good time getting high together. Whatever it is doesn't have to be bad, but there almost has to be more to it than just calling him after that long to say hi.
