If Axl's plan was to use the brand name for his own benefit, then why wait until the end of 1995 to form a new partnership, when he had secured ownership of the band name for all future endeavors by 1993 at the latest (depending on what timeline you believe)? Why even go to the effort of trying to bring Zakk Wylde in with Slash before forming a new partnership? Why agree to put the contract in escrow to see if things could be worked out if there is no intention to work things out?
I just don't buy that was his plan from the get go. Yes, obviously, at some point, he wanted and felt the need to take control (his way or the highway so to speak). It wasn't from the get go, though, as he had ownership of the name by 1993 and did not act on it until 1995.
Ali
Why wait, maybe a couple of reasons.
1. Waiting until the statute of limitations had passed for Duff and Slash to take legal action regarding the contract they signed. Axl has directly mentioned this saying they have engaged him in litigation long after the statute of limitations had expired.
2. In the event it does go to court anyhow, he can at least show that he tried to work with the current lineup even after he got the name. He didn't just take the name and then immediately piss off (even if that was his intention). He can say (as he does) that he took the name as protection in the event one of them dies etc etc. He can show that he fully intended to continue on with them as his actions post the UYI tour showed. But it got to the point where it was unworkable therefore he exercised his legal right and left with the name.
That scanario would have to be looked on more favourably by a court than simply he coerced them into signing the name then ran off immeditely the UYI tour finished. If I was Axl's legal counsel at the time, I would have suggested he go through the motions with the guys for a period of time to make it look like he tried everything before he left with the name.

Yeah it was all about control ultimately from what I can see.
In some respects I don't blame him. Besides, you could also argue that Slash now with what he is doing is about control - persuing the solo stuff over VR. He can just do it his way now without having to truly consult the others and get agreement.
Sure Slash doesn't appear to exercise his control in the same overt, dictatorial manner as Axl exerts his authority. But subtely he is the one in control and no doubt he likes that. He can do things in his own laidback fashion.

The thing I don't understand, how was Slash asked to join the new Guns N' Roses when the new Guns N' Roses didn't even exist? Did this happen after he left? Why is this coming out now, when all this time, it was Axl's inability to co-exist with Slash and make an album? I'd like to hear Duff's side of this.
That's long been my understanding - what Slash said. I think it was described in Chinese Whispers too.
Axl had got control of the name a couple of years earlier, then when things went pear shaped post the Illusion Tour and TSI etc, Axl basically left the original partnership agreement, took the name with him, then set up a new partnership which Slash and Duff were offered to join as paid employees. That's why I always laugh when people bag Slash and say "well he left the band". Technically he never left, Axl is the one that did.
This isn't new info from Slash either this has been around for years.
Axl was the last remaining member of the Recording Agreement, since the others ended up leaving so they weren't liable for the already significant costs that were being racked up for Chi Dem. But I believe the Partnership Agreement between Slash, Duff and Axl s a different thing and it's Axl that left that one with the name. Apex-Twin care to chime in and clarify?

the article makes it sounds like they're all hanging out with teens in the jacuzzi after the show.

Not all - just Axl & Tommy.

Ha classic! Why do some girls think just coz a guy likes to see a nice smooth VW Bonnet that they have pedo tendancies.
Personally either fully shaven or with just a little landing strip I like the best. I don't like having to pull hair out of my teeth or feel like I need a chainsaw just to get a look at the butchers shop.

If Bono were single and to be messing around with someone the age of Selena Gomez I'd find that incredibly lame.

Personally I don't care if they do this, even if they fuck them. It does seem a little lame tho.
Also the way I read Ron's comments saying "the band" didn't request this, I read to mean the band as a collective didn't, it doesn't mean an individual from the band didn't. I read it this way because he wrote the band in inverted comments and then went on to give the example of Axl being late saying he's waiting too. In other words "the band" isn't responsible for the late starts either.
Anyhow, just my read on it. As I said I don't really care outside of the fact it's pretty lame.
That said it wouldn't surprise me if it was actually Del and/or Fernando either.

If you are just looking for a receptacle for your load for the night then the warm tight snatch of some 20 year old model would get my vote over some old duck just about every time.
But if you want to actually converse with these chicks beyond "will you take it in the ass?" then someone a little older, like late 20's upwards might be a better bet.
Also experience counts for something too, there's some fucken randy and dirty 30-40+ year old women out there that can wean a mean peen! Remember old chook makes good soup!
Whilst there is the obvious visual appeal of fit young chicks, there is also some smoking hot Stiffler's mum types out there. I suppose it all depends on what floats ya boat.

I know when I was in my 20s girls in their 20s looked great, and now in my 30s girls in their 20s still look great...so I'd speculate that when i'm 50
