I could be wrong but I think this list is for stage presence mostly. And I don't think Lennon was that great in concert, neither is McCartney.

Elvis's guitarist? Interesting choice and an unexpected one.

(Sorry, I had to do it
)
Yeah but that was too obvious. *lol*

I like Bon Jovi too! But he is not a rock GOD. The Backstreet Boys have their fans eating from the palm of their hand - so does a lot of musicians who are not rock GODS. I'm not comparing Bon Jovi to a boy band - they are WAY better than that, but they don't belong up there with the true GODS of rock...
We'll just have to agree to disagree or else we're both gonna argue till we're blue to the face. Comparing Bon Jovi's success or fanbase to the Backstreet Boys is just plain ridiculous. You just don't have a 25 year carreer a successfull 25 year carreer might I add by being talentless. And to some extent they influenced more bands than we'll ever know. I still say that the critics or even some bands who claim to detest Bon Jovi have them on their rotation once in awhile and own one or more Bon Jovi albums. That sound from the voice box on Livin on a Prayer was used numerous times after Prayer was a huge hit.

^ Thanks Bon Jovi! Thanks for playing an acoustic guitar! WOW! So amazing! The Grateful Dead recorded "Reckoning" in 1981, A live "Unplugged" album with the full band presenting their music in an acoustic setting for the first time. That was a GOLD record before Bon Jovi ever thought of the idea. if you like "Unplugged" music I suggest you check it out!
I'm not saying they invented the genre, but they sure brought it back with a big bang. Their performance was awesome. And again JBJ like him or not is an amazing performer that can get the crowd to eat from the palm of his hand. So to me that makes him a Rock God.

If such a thread already exists I'm sorry. Assuming that Robin Finck doesn't come back and that Axl wants another lead guitarist. Who would be on your shopping list?
Me my shopping list would look like this.
Zakk Wylde: If I was Axl I'd give this another try. GNR would be perfect for Zakk cause he's still be able to go on with Black Label Society without a problem since GNR's activities are very distanced.
Steve Vai: The guy dealt with DLR and David Coverdale so dealing with a lead singer with an ego isn't a problem for him.
Paul Gilbert: That guy is too talented to look past him.
John 5: Same as Paul Gilbert.
Marty Friedman: Nobody can deny his talent. Would be a great addition.
And last but not least Buckethead: I'd give it another shot to lure him in.

I didn't watch it. Not because I think it'll be bad. On the contrary I know it'll make me wish that this lineup could've made it.

^ Bon Jovi did not invent unplugged music
Neil Young and Bob Dylan where performing "unplugged: when Bon Jovi was 8 years old. Shit, it's been going on before Neil and Bob... Give me a break dude, Bon Jovi's unplugged performance did not change the face of music
It sure proved to be a formula for success, but that hardly qualifies one as a rock GOD.
It did cause a lot of bands including Nirvanna jumped on the Unplugged ship all due to Bon Jovi's performance. Sorry to disappoint you hun but Bon Jovi did change music there and certainly influenced it. After that almost ever band took their songs that were played electric and played them unplugged. You might not want to admit it, but it's still a fact. So again if you like any of those unplugged albums please send a thank you to Bon Jovi.

I may Torrent a couple and see what I think.
I love this discussion, i know we are well off the beaten path but I love message forums where discussions get a little off topic and turn into a really cool beast.
To get back on Topic though:
I just wonder if the 20k GNR sold last week will be an indication of the numbers it will pull from here on out? OR was it just cause it was the week after Christmas?
I really admire and respect GNR fans that can turn this into something positive. I can't.
Gold isn't bad I don't guess... 2 million worldwide is pretty bad though.
I know in the Rock God thread people were discussing certain other bands and even those that kinda bombed in the US still moved 6-8 million worldwide. so the fact GNR aren't the overseas phenomenon we all thought for me is WAYYYYYYYYYYY more shocking than the US number.
Just remember D that 2 million albums nowadays is probably the equivalent of 6-8 million worldwide from back in the 90's. Sad fact, people don't buy music anymore, they download it and on torrent sites. So to me CD is not a complete failure. Maybe GNR fans are more downloading motherfuckers than AC DC's fans. *lol*

GNRBABY wrote:I have to chime in here. Bon Jovi will NEVER be a rock GOD. That is a silly notion. The band and the man (Jon) has never released a ground breaking album, nor have they or ever will "change the face of music". Their music will never "define a generation". They will never write music that "only they could write" and "break new ground" with their music. Music snobs and elitist will never ever take them seriously.
That being said, Bon Jovi has recorded some good music and has entertained millions of people around the world They are ultra-mega rock stars that sell tons of albums and their music will be popular for years and decades to come. However, they will never be Rock GODS. They don't deserve a seat at the table with Bob Dylan, Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix, PInk Floyd, and so on and so fourth.
This is not my opinion, this is fact. Fact Fact Fact. When y'all are 75 years old, you can look high abd low, deep and shallow, but you will never find Bon Jovi or Jon Bon Jovi in the category of rock GOD.
Album sales and ticket sales do not define a rock GOD.

I, and people who have known me for years on these message forums can attest to this, for the first time in my message forum existence am speechless.
I just have my mouth open shaking my head in disbelief at this post.......
I can't even really comment.
I'm not speechless. Like I said. To say they were never groundbreaking is suffering from pure amnesia as Bon Jovi has invented the whole Unplugged thing.
