I think Billboard has REALLY lost some of its relevance by overdoing it with these charts.

Michael sold MORE than the Black Eyed Peas, period...therefore it should be reflected as number 1 on the CURRENT chart because he has CURRENTLY outsold the Black Eyed Peas and enough to own the two and three spots as well.  Just stupid in my opinion and not only lessens (in appearance) his remarkable accomplishment but gives a bit of false "gleam" to the Black Eyed Peas.  They did NOT sell the most records therefore giving them the top spot is giving them a paper crown.

I was thinking about buying that one. Either that, or OTW, Thriller & Bad. Combined they'd be about $5 less than his Collection ($30 vs $35)

I bought the Ultimate Collection because I didn't own that much of Michael's stuff even though I always intended to grab some.  It's a very solid list of material.  I'm really looking forward to hearing the original version (different lyrics) of We Are The World.

With all due respect to MJ death, I seriously doubt he's going to come back to the billboard charts with past cds or lps. The only thing that may happen is if he was working on any new material and is unfinished, maybe they will release that in some type of cd which of course would hit the number one spot for a few weeks or so. : )

He's already did it!  His sales are actually TOPPING the sales of John Lennon and Elvis Presley following their respective untimely passings.  That's very surprising to me.

tejastech08, glad you got to check out Dirty Diana...it's easily one of my favorites of his.  LOVE the way he sings it and Steve Stevens kicks ass on the guitar.

By the way to everyone who is tallking about Billie Jean, I love the song, LOVE IT ... BUT.... if I'm being honest Michael kind of stole that riff you love from a group called Hall and Oates.  The song was called "I Can't Go For That".  Go download it and listen for yourself.  According to one of the guys in Hall and Oates (I'm not sure which is which but the blonde headed guy, the asshole lol) he says Michael even told him "I stole your song" in a joking way about Billie Jean.

Just for the record Billie Jean BLOWS that song away.  I just thought some of you may find this interesting.

That is a great set, I'd really liked to seen what would have happened if things had went differently.

Reunite. It's the only shot at making GnR relevant again. But it ain't happening, GnR is going to be the CCR of this generation. and not reunite. And Axl's the John Fogerty, only he doesn't have 'Centerfield'.

Definitely reunite in my book as well.

Probably will be the CCR of this generation but I'd have to say "The Old Man Down The Road" was John's last high point.  I thought "Centerfield" (although a hit) was cheesier than Packer stadium during a home playoff game.

As sad as it is to say if he keeps doing what he's doing, when he dies it will merit no more than a 10 word sentence along the news ticker at the bottom of the screen on a live news report.

You make a sad but merited point.

One thing I would hate to see is Axl remembered for his "strangeness" rather than the music.  To me it doesn't get any better than AFD and the UYIs and I actually think CD is much better than the reception it received.

All the strangeness surrounding Axl from the last studio album with GNR to his album Chinese Democracy hurt sales and interest in the album drastically I believe.

I still think there is a SMALL window of opportunity left however.  I just hope he seizes it no matter how unlikely.

In light of what happened this past week (three icons gone in a flash) thoughts of mortality and what was/could have been tend to surface in my mind.

I can't help but wonder what if Michael Jackson had NAILED these 50 shows?  What if he made a "comeback album" and it had been on the scale of albums like Dangerous or Bad?  The sad reality is death is the final act on earth so those questions will never be answered.  However in the case of Michael his place in musical history is not only solidified but it is on the highest of tiers.

This made me think more and more about Axl and Guns N Roses.  Already we ask ourselves what could have been.  So many things left the original band could have done.  Who knows what great music we would be listening to right now if they could have all worked things out?

Then there was the great lineup Axl assembled at the beginning of the millenium.  With Buckethead the possibillities were enormous as well.  This too is now a thing of the past.

What should Axl do next to add to his legacy and further heighten the relevance of Guns N Roses for the LONG TERM?  Years from now how will he and the legendary band be remembered?  As it stands the catalogue of music is fairly small.  Should he continue on his current course or try and somehow find reconciliation with his former bandmates before age (the "old bald thief" as Stephen King calls it) makes "what if" impossible?

I'm sure weeks like this must make him question his own mortality and the legacy he will someday leave behind.

What are your thoughts on this?

I believe Michael, Elvis & The Beatles not only all deserve to be mentioned together but that they stand together in a category all by themselves.

I agree, their places in the history of music are solidified and uncontested.
