I don't know what I'm downplaying. Between the two groups, college educated whites are not a big group. In the suburbs, especially women, were turned off by Trump. How does that play going forward? I don't know think we've wrapped our head around d the Trump vote;who voted specifically for Trump instead of party, and who voted specifically against Trump instead of party.
I agree with you here. They (Repubs) won seats in the House and Senate when they were expected to be losses. That surprised me. That means part of their message is still resonating with voters. You have to figure which part appeals to which sector/demo, which is interesting. Most likely it was a split ticket, voted against Trump but with the party.

misterID wrote:We are really looking at the reality of democrats losing the Hispanic community. What's ironic is that they were who Dems were going to use to seize control of the presidency and both houses by turning Texas blue, the way they turned California blue: illegal immigration. But the generational shift completely blew up in their faces.
Hispanic Americans are largely conservative-religious, patriotic, capitalist, and against illegal immigration. Another twist? Not only did Trump attract more black men, but also Muslims, which Dems lost. Once the second-third generations became more Americanized, distancing away from their parents and grandparents experience, immigration became less important and individual freedom and American idealism became more important. They embraced what affluent, college educated, and overwhelmingly white liberals took for granted: being American.
The only gains dems made are college educated whites.
I found this a good post. GOP kinda found a niche in an anti-uber liberal & free everything folks, as well as latino vote in some areas. I think you're black men & Muslims probably needs clarification. More than what, than he got in 2016? Low is low, an increase from 3.5 to 4.2 or something is negligible.
Anyway that aside, yeah the Dems possibly overreached again. Remember in 2016 John Kasich said on the debate stage 'You know, we're up here running for President and talking about what bathrooms people can use" and if you remember, thats the country we were back then. And immigration, I think 2 races now have proven completely open borders and cozying up to illegals isn't gaining new votes. On the flip side tho trump 'lost in a landslide' that he claimed Hillary lost in, so his build a wall and lock them up in cages likely wasn't a winner either.
With Pelosi on her way out soon, or at least likely soon time to give up SOTH, they need a new identity. Hope they realize AOC isn't it. She wins NYC & the NY/National media, but there's about 40 or so other states who aren't lock step in her thinking.
I agree with this a lot. Taking it further, Democrats SUCK at messaging. I mean just one of the ones they used: "defund the police". That one is horrible on multiple fronts, even if you agree with the BLM movement. They need to find one who can articulate what they stand for is a simple and concise manner. They go into nuance or have 2-3 different people talking into different things and have these inter-faction battles over whatever.
Conversely, look at the Republicans, once they want to get something done/message to send to the public. They are almost in unison and you know what their viewpoint is (even if you disagree with it).

Why has nothing changed in North Carolina in days? What is going on there?
I believe the delay is that NC is waiting on ballots that are postmarked on November 3. They have/will wait until November 12. So it could be a while before we get a final vote talley.

Trump is suing everywhere now...he's suing Nevada...and I'm sure he'll sue in Georgia and North Carolina soon...as those margins are tightening.
Does he really think this is how he's going to win?
He's has to stop filing lawsuits. It's making him look silly.
A Georgia judge has dismissed the Trump campaign’s lawsuit over absentee ballots in the state.
The president’s reelection campaign tried to argue election officials were attempting to count invalid ballots in Georgia.
When pressed for evidence of that claim, the Trump campaign could not produce any.
The president’s campaign is trying to launch legal challenges in multiple battleground states, but they do not seem to have much merit at this point.
Election officials in multiple states have emphasized they will count every valid ballot before finalizing their results.

The irony in this is he would have gotten more mail in votes if he didn't disparage the entire process.

Ok, what have you done with the real Flagg. Seriously though, agree that Trump and his family are horrible people. The thing is if I think they would have won if they ran a regular politican who took the coronavirus more seriously I think Republicans may have won.
It'll will be interesting to see who they run in 2024. Either a female like Nicky Haley or a centrist like Kasich/Dewine/Larry Hogan.
Kasich is persona non grata to the GOP. And there's a good chance he gets a spot on Biden's cabinet. I know people call bullshit when I say I have friends high up in Washington, but it's true and they universally tell me Kasich is excommunicated. One of my good friends was in the room when Kasich got offered the VP slot in late 16. Niki Haley would be a fantastic pick and I hope to see her more in the coming years. I have serious doubts Biden can run again in 2024. Conspiracy nuts say Pelosi's 25th amendment nonsense recently was for Biden, not Trump. I disagree, but the stress of the presidency isn't going to help his mental state regardless of how well he is today. 82 is fucking old.
It was kind of known/unspoken that Biden will only be a one term prez. Which was why the Vice President pick was so important. Since that person was going to get a leg up on the other Democratic "contenders". Assuming she doesn't screw up, the Democratic nominee will probably be Kamala Harris. But it's early and anything can happen in 4 years.
And it's pathetic that Trump is now seeking to stop the vote count because he'll probably be down in those states that he is contesting.

But hopefully he doesn't run again. I just have this awful feeling he will.
If he lost, it's over. He'll be Sleepy Donald in 4 years.
Ivanka may run in 2024 in an attempt to cash in on Trumpism but I think it's over if Biden takes this.
Not sure how the country is going to react to no more 24/7 Trump.
It'll be weird.

I don't know the rules in Vermont, but they have a Republican governor. If Sanders leaves his senate seat for a cabinet position, do they have an election or does the governor get to appoint a replacement? Same thing with Warren in Massachusetts.
Yeah the government appoints the replacement. Which is why Biden indicated that he probably wouldn’t pick Warren or Sanders.
All the votes have been counted and Biden is ahead on WI.

I finally got around to watching Doubt. I could kick myself for putting it off for 12 years. Most religious themed movies are a turn off to me.
Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, and Meryl Streep should've all won Oscars. None of them won. Hell....Adams lost to Penelope Cruz of all people and her win should've been a lock.
It was also the year of the Slumdog Millionaire hype so it didn't have a chance in hell of getting best picture.
Oof. I remember totally fucking hating Slumdog Millionaire. I love Penelope Cruz but her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona was ok. The film was kinda forgettable to me.
I remember Doubt being really well acted and intense.
Recently re-watched First Love a Takashi Miike film. It’s a love story with “shit happens in one night with Yakuza characters” intersecting plot type of film.
The bloody violence is played for laughs really. A little long but still a fun film to watch.

Total sham. Wow. Trump was right. Only way he loses is if the Dems cheat. And, they are.
I usually don’t do this. But what a fucking stupid post. You do realize that mail in voting has been around for a long time? And as PaSnow noted there are both Dems and Republicans there when it’s counted.
Please at least try to be informed before making comments that make you look like an idiot or fool.

Holy shit do these teams suck. Amazing that a team from this division will go to the playoffs.
I've been hearing about it all day on the radio.
There is no clear favortie to me...although Tampa seems to be gaining momentum...
I see flaws with everyone. Especially the Bears...my god...did they have a melt down moment at the end of the second quarter and the beginning of the third quarter...it's becoming obvious that there is major tension between Foles and Nagy...which is ironic because I thought Nagy wanted Foles.
Foles recently said that something to the effect of 'I know when a play is called that it won't work before we run it.'
Nagy is allegedly an offensive coach whose offense is currently behind Jacksonville in offensive production. The Bears had the 32nd ranked rushing attack going into last night. Tack on the 28th passing game...and you have an offense that sucks and is getting worse.
In his defense, he doesn't really have a good qb. I watched some of that game as well. Foles was not GOOD. He's one of those guys that you have to scheme around and more or less manufacture points. I mean you just can't tell him to you know what just drop back and throw it. There's maybe 10 of those types of QB's in the NFL right now. So you have to go play action on favorable downs.
But their running game and OL has been shit too. That's probably more on Pace though. Being totally honest and impartial, Bears should have a losing record, Lions and Falcons collapsed against them. I think they make the playoffs only because the schedule is soft.
