It's not about free publicity...it's about people controling your brand's image without your permission and potentially harming it by association.

(and while i'll achnowledge that perhaps Axl does harm his own brand at times, that doesn't make it ok for others to do so. If you want to key-up your car, that doesn't mean I can come scratch the shit out of it as well)

Is dr pepper the image the band wants to be associated with? What if it was tampons? or child's toys or painkillers? or car oil? It's not right for a product to attach itself to another product without strategic planning, payments, and involvements from both sides and done consentually.

It wasn't right...but Axl seemed to take it ok...but then when they fucked up their "free" promotional offer anyway...he got pissed off and had every right to IMO.

I had to go with GB cos it was a fundemental part of my childhood. But tough call cos wizard is like an all time classic too.

Fuck "relevance" though...that's just what the media tells people to enjoy and follow...you could be relevant if you had the dollars to spend.

I also don't accept the argument from others that to be 'more' talented you have to do more things. Shakesphere is considered to be the best writer - or one of - but he probably can't dance and sing.....being amazing at one or two things is enough to make you insanely talented.

Another point is that you dont have to enjoy a stlye of music to see someone is talented. I dont like classical music, but I can see one of my old school friends who is a professional violinist is crazy talented.

Anyway...

Both Axl and Trent do what they do 100 times better than a 'normal' person who does it. That's why they are famous and make professional music. Not just anyone with pro tools can make a NIN album, and not just anyone with a mike can hold the stage and sing like Axl.

they're both awesome.

Axl is an idiot, but at least he has talent. NIN has always, always will, and does SUCK.

I think they both have tallent. I don't like everything NIN does, but they definately have some good songs with interesting production and arrangment.

I also don't think Axl is an idiot, he seems very clever and well spoken in interviews, he just has a perspective on things not matched by most people, which makes him make choices we don't accept or understand at times.

At the end of the day, both Axl and Trent are pretty interesting characters and musicians.

Hmmm...let's see:

Slash = One of greatest guitar players of all time, wrote some of the most famous riffs ever, iconic rock solos, beautiful emotive playing at a level few can capture.

Buckethead = One of the best guitarists ever seen, apparently flawless ability, breathtaking speed, interesting and creative use of melody, tones and non-traditional approaches to music creation that most are unable to emulate.

No offence, but anyone who can't see that BOTH these men are fucking amazing guitarists, with imense tallent and masters of creating their chosen effect, is FUCKED in the head. wink

I think it's little steps.

Axl's considering a tour some time in the future but not straight away, like if something comes up that he wants to play or in a few months or whatever. It was obvious from his comments it wasn't going to be short term.

You have no ability to tour with no band, even if the best offer ever comes up, so he hires DJ to replace robin so that he now has ability to tour if he wants to.

we then just have to wait until he's in the mood, not busy with the legal stuff and whatever else, and until a tour idea (offer) that suits his interest comes up.

It will eventually happen IMO, the hiring of DJ shows that, but I don't think it's going to necessarily be as soon as we'd like.

I wouldn't stress about Baz too much though, he's drop most things he was working on to join Axl on a tour if it was possible for him to drop them I think....so plans could change fast. But this just shows its more a potential idea than a firm plan at the moment...and that's pretty much what Axl/Dexter said when online.

He's just attention whoring.  What better way for a music guy to get noticed than by saying things about famous people that most music fans agree with.  I know I'm Captain Obvious sometimes, but this one takes the cake.

I agree.

I enjoy trent's music quite a lot and have a lot of respect for him as an artist and songwriter/producer.

However I can't agree with his opinions on all these other people.

That would be awesome if it happened.

I'd love proshot footage with the new line up!!

I know i always say this...but why not get the new band, some HD cameras and shit, do a proshot "rehersal" footage of them jamming out 2 or 3 tracks in a really intimate setting, looking all cool....then sell it as a one-off download on the website or something like that.

could be done pretty cheaply I'd have thought and still look pretty cool. Like that NIN dvd that came with "the slip" - small room artistily designed -  live jam - pretty killer.....

I'd love something like that. It'd just be nice to have a professional video of some kind of the current line up rather than relying on boots and stuff when a tour starts. And i can see making "videoclips" would be expensive...but a couple of live tracks like that...

This is actually pretty old I saw it a couple of years back I think. But it's fucking funny!

There would have been nothing wrong with Axl doing something like this. GNR fans would have been on it like flies on shit. Its only in hindsight knowing he didn't do anything that people start the 'I'm glad he's not a media whore prostituting himself for fortune and fame" bullshit.

If he ever decides to leave the house one of these days, there's gonna be a lot of people eating a lot of crow.

I agree. When Axl was on MTV giving away his old house or whatever that was back in the day I didn't feel he was a whore. It was just cool to see him and gnr stuff.

I support axl doing what he needs to do to be happy. But I question how healthy it is....while he was never as media friendly as guys like Slash people seem to forget that once upon a time, Axl used to be out places, and talk to people and appear on TV and this kinda thing that everyone now says is whoring.

It's axl's life. I can just say from my own perspective, when the world's fucked it's tempting to lock yourself away, but the times i've done that it can get pretty lonely and make you feel worse in the longer term.
