i checked HTGTH for discussion on this and Jarmo brought up a valid point (which leads me to believe there's possibly something to this rumour)... Who pays for it all?
On one hand, labels want to promote without spending money (which doesn't work) as there's little to no chance to turn a profit in the record industry. Artists, on the other hand, want as much money alloted to them as possible, so that they can get their names out there and be successful. While the end result may be increased record sales, it could also decrease profit significantly.
In the end, the best way to promote the album is through free media. Allow magazines and newspapers to write reviews, make television appearances (late night TV, anyone?), and get the name out there that way. Like it or not, Slash has done more free promotion for this band than anyone by making appearances at geek conventions and appearing in video games. As mentioned above, the only way to get people to buy this album is to shove it down the public's throat. That's done through free promotion using the media, not billboard ads or TV commercials.

After spending so much money on the album the label has two choices in today's music industry.
1. Spend a shitload in advertising and promotion to get mediocre sales.
2. Do little to no promotion and get mediocre sales.
Albums don't sell anymore. Plain and simple. They'll certainly never get back what was put into production. I mean $13 million. If the label makes $2 profit on every unit sold, they need the record to sell at least 6.5 million copies. If they pump $2 million into an advertising campaign, that's even more money that will never be realized. On top of everything, the album still needs to be pressed and mass produced, then delivered to record stores. I have no idea how much a production run would cost, but I would imagine it's not cheap. Including all overhead charges the album may need to sell 8 million copies just to break even. That's not including promotion. From a financial perspective, it's probably in the label's best interest to not even bother releasing the album.

I thought it was pretty cool. I guess I'm a lame-ass fan of nerdy stuff too. This girl probably had the dream of playing with Slash and had her dreams realized when she got the opportunity. And well, I'm not against anyone making money for doing their job. Slash's job is in the music industry. Part of the music industry is entertainment. As an entertainer he's allowed to participate in as many of these events as he wants.
Not only that, but games like Guitar Hero have become staples among youth culture. Some say it's the wave of the future for the music business. As long as Slash attaches himself to such products, he and GNR remain popular. At least he's reaching out to fans instead of hiding for months or years at a time.

Well, I think one of the music sites could've plucked this one off mygnr and the other picked it up from the site that did the plucking.
In any event, Axl may be a lot of things, but a Marketing major he is not. Leave it up to the pros, sir. This could be the album of the year and we don't need someone who hasn't released an album in 15 years telling guys who do it everyday how to do it. A lot has change in the music industry since The Spaghetti Incident and I'm sure Axl isn't the answer to the promotion woes of the music industry. If he was, he'd have a completely different position at Universal.

Exactly.

I had two done at different times when I was in high school. I was awake for all of it (the Doc used local anesthetic) and the second one hurt far more than the first because I don't think he waited for the area to completely deaden. They weren't infected or anything, I just had to get them out because they were pushing my gums up into my top wisdom teeth, which was hurting a bit. Anyway, I'm not a fan of getting teeth pulled. The dude used a chisel and pliers in my mouth and had to put his leg on the dentist chair to get enough leverage to pull them out. Terrifying!

Do they all do it on a cracker and the last one who jizzes eats it? Or does that just happen at college parties?

What is a person going to do with $3 quadrillion? Buy earth?
I'm half on the fence about these claims. It's a natural disaster for god's sake. Why should other people have to pay because you choose to live in a city that's below sea level. It's one thing to get insurance settlements for what you've lost and to claim personal damages and everything, but it's another to take advantage of the system.

If you go to a jerk-a-thon and meet an old friend, do you shake his hand?

The track certainly did not stand the test of time. As mentioned, when we were younger we thought it was great, but the rant comes off as immature and lame now. It's just telling people to fuck off and suck dick. No fun in that... it could've been far more creative. Take a lesson from Wesley Willis.
The music was fantastic though. It's a shame.
