VR only went anywhere at all cuz it was VR (slash/duff)..  it had nothing to do with that scumbag weiland.

I disagree with that....I'm not a huge van of Scott...but VR's fan base was both GNR and STP people...you could see at the gigs a lot of people in STP tops and so forth. They had a pre-made fan base - anyone who liked the guitar in GNR and the vocals in STP was likely to pay attention to VR in the early days. Also - scotts problems were great in a media sence - like its a pre-made story - the famous former junkies of GNR team up with one of the most notorious current drug users in rock. Its an easy story for the media to do, and they more they do it, the more people decide to check out the record.

That said...the Slash/Duff/Matt chemestry is what really makes the band interesting to me...and I'm sure a lot of people.

With the right new singer VR could kickass. It's tough to find the mix....guys like Josh Todd and I'd guess Dover....were considered too 1 dimensional...not enough "musical"ness - but guys like Scott IMHO are "too musical" - no ability to really scream it and that's what really high energy needs in places. That what a guy like Axl, and to a lesser extent Baz can bring - a powerful scream that opens hell, but a soulfull sensitve and well pitched musical side as well. Sadly politics stops either of those 2 getting in the mix. The only other dude I can think of thats well known and has the game is cornell....but James tells me that's impossible, and it does seem unlikely given he's already done one superband.

Which leaves us in limbo. You need Axl's power and range without trying to copy his unique style. They don't wanna be GNR light. They even said that when demoing audition tapes that they'd skip to the next tape when they hear SCOM start. Yet they also don't want a scott clone. I mean a guy who looks and sounds like scott, yet isn't actually the former singer of STP doesn't really add anything does he? He's only ever going to be a replacment. They need something new, something unlike the others, or someone enough of a mix of both Axl and Scott, and fresh - that it works! Meanwhile...we wait.

I respect Axl. He may not do everything to my whims but he writes kickass songs. If i wrote an album half as good as CD for my band i'd be very very happy!

That is one perspective.

This might sound controversial,  but I actually think Axl has done pretty well for himself considering his situation. Let me explain why...

Without wanting to sound disrespectful to him, I think it's fair to say that he clearly has capacity to feel things deeply and be hurt by them, and that historically, he's been involved in a fair amount of controversy...which may or may not be his fault.

That's who he is...so considering that....look at some of the other things that could have happened...then consider some of the achievments:

1. Rock Didn't kill him. It sounds silly, but think of Cobain, Morrison, Hendrix, Bon Scott. Axl was MASSIVE back in the UYI period...and he managed to avoid heading down that road.

2. He isn't hooked on drugs. Old GNR was like a time bomb. A kickass band...but watching it growing up I wondered who would die first from the excesses.

3. He hasn't killed himself. Many people who feel things as complexly as Axl take that way out, songs like estranged talk about related issues. He gets mocked for it...but its clear his relationships deeply upset him emotionally, and if you add to that the way the old band and friendships fell appart...a lot of people wouldn't recover from that.

4. He got control of his business afairs. Hey - some of us may not like his decisions - but let's face it - from his perspective - he's done the smart thing - rightly or wrongly a lot of the controversy revolved around him - cancelled shows, riots etc - imagine if they'd kicked him out of the band and got a new front man. But he has put himself in a situation where he has control of his art, and no one can force him to do stuff he doesnt want to do. Like i say - some fans may not like the results..but from his side of things...it's a good result.

5. He keeps at it. Sure its taken a long time and whatever. But think for a sec about how good original GNR is, and what a task it really is to establish something else at the same level. People on here want to call him a coward and all that - but if you ask me its a brave man that will even attempt something as massive as trying to emulate that. Now from my perspective, the new album is a different beast, but he has made a kickass album, and I respect that, a lot of people would have just hung up their musical boots after old guns.

Anyway, i'm just saying, we don't know these people you talk about, sure some fans are unahppy that he hasn't lived the life they'd want him to live, but it's quite possible that Axl's "family" actually keep him out of even worse situations.

I'm just glad axl is talking in public again. In interested in future tours - especially of the new album, and in the longer term, more music.

#8097 Re: The Sunset Strip » Buckcherry » 897 weeks ago

yeah they"re a great band. The rockers remind me of vintage GNR.

Cornell has that massive range that Axl has...and is musical not just a screamer too. If it can never happen - i wish he'd find someone similar! It would kick ass.

#8099 Re: The Garden » Is it gay... » 897 weeks ago

Actually...to be serious on this issue.

I think it comes down to mental stuff. It's what is in the mind and what makes you horny that is the true classification of sexuality rather than the acts.
Consider:

1. A man who gets hard at the thought of sucking another man off. This is what he wants to do. But for whatever reason, he only has sex with women in his lifetime. I would consider that man gay (or bisexual if he enjoys the sex with women too). Even if he never in fact does have sex with a man. He's gay.

2. A man who is forced to have sex with another man. He doesn't become gay from the act, he is a straight man being forced. Why - because mentally he doesnt like men. Or a man in prison who may have sex with a man, but be thinking of women mentally.

3. If we are talking sex acts phyically. Let's think about a blow job. The inside of woman's mouth is going to be very similar to the inside of a man's mouth on a physical level. But a straight guy will be excited at the prospect of a BJ from a woman, and disgusted at one from a man, and totally horrified at the same pysical sensation delivered by a child. The key is its not act itself, or the physical sensations produced that create the sexuality, its the mind set.

Because the OP's suggestion resembles an act many straight men would not enjoy, and because it is very close to the activities of gay males, the gut feeling is to consider it gay - but the only real test is what is in the mind of the person.

If he gets hard at the thought of women, but happens to enjoy the same activittes gay males do, but does them with his girl...it still makes him straight. Ther only thing that would make it gay is being attracted to the idea of doing that with a man. Not the pysical sensations of it.

I'm not sure how people, including if I didn't misunderstand him, Axl, can say that slash post GNR does not do impressive guitar work, when IFOCS is basicly a VERY similar album guitar wise to AFD.
