#8521 Re: Guns N' Roses » Pitmans official website opened » 917 weeks ago
Pitman is cool on the new tracks...they wanted a more modern approach and he brings that....myself i'd have him stay out of the old tracks...such as AFD which were designed for a 5 piece lineup as I feel he doesn't add much to them....I feel the same about the whole of the 'new' gnr...love them when they do their own stuff...don't like the changes they make to the classic GNR....
I'm interested to know axl is playing lead now...we new he was learning tar and playng on maddy and dead horse and stuff..but if he is playing lead lines that's quite interesting to me!

Hell, the only real promo TSI got was a Slash interview in either People or EW Magazine.
Not over here...my record store had posters up for weeks before hand. That's all i want...i dont want an eclipse of the sun...i just want to go into JB hifi...and them to have a little form on the desk with a GNR logo where they are taking names for pre-orders...just like they are doing now for Ac/Dc...and like they did for metallica a couple of months back...and like they do for any known band release.

Wow...that's the kind of thing i've been waiting for...some word from my local outlets that they think its going to happen as well. It being on that release list, and MMM running with it here is pretty good news...wow...a day early here too!

Cool stuff guys!

Its just an album. Its no different than Kala, Death Magnetic, Doll Domination, The Slip, etc. The world isn't going to crack in half by its release, and I think its smart by management to lower expectations into the world of reality.
I agree 100% except what I feel is that the current situation is LESS than those bands. When NIN puts an album out, the offical site says so. Metallica's web pressence is massive etc. Presale of special release versions with extra features. AC/DC let you pre-order black ice on their site from 2 months prior.
But even asside from those kinda fan interaction things that we know GNR isn't fond of....I'm just talking basic promotion...not like a star wars event type thing...but the sort of promo that a major (even if only historical) brand name like GNR gets while on a major record label. You couldn't walk into a music shop anywhere in Melbourne without knowing Death Magnetic was comming...hell...there's still posters up around the subway walls and stuff. And the forthcomming AC/DC album is also getting media attention...articles about the bands return and so forth - even though they've been retired for 8 years.
Unless i've missed something, there is NOTHING yet from a legitimate source saying this is happening. In contrast to the other normal releases you've mentioned...GNR has not achnowledged it's anything but a rumour...and where can you go to place a pre-order guarenteed to be filled on the exact date? Have best buy themselves said this is happening?
I don't mean to be negative. It's clear from the leaks and so forth that something is on the verge of happening, and all the rumours. I'm just saying...until there is some kind of legitimate statment from either the band, management, or best-buy or all other music shops or whatever...then any date we have is nothing more than speculation sadly and could all go down the toilet just like it did in other years.
Just saying its what? 43 days till we should be able to walk into a best buy and grab one off the shelf...it would be normal for someone to say that it is true and not made up within what? 25 days of it happening at least? So the clock is ticking is all i mean

Sorry nemo didn't mean to be ignoring what you wrote.
On a related note....one thing i've noticed playing a few Epi's and Gibsons is that aformentioned variance can be so wild...that in some cases if you play a top of the line Epi - and get a 'good' one vs a bottom of the line gibson and happen to get a 'dud' one then the Epi can actually be the better play. Although i think this is truer of the older Epis...i'm not sure why - like if they make them differently now - but I have a 1994 Epi that's just one of those gem guitars....and feels nicer than a lot of really really more expensive models. That said...if you get a gibson that's 'good'....it really does pretty much own everything...depending on the sound you want...not as usefull for vai type music...but for that GNR style sound it kicks extreme ass.
Back on topic...another thing worth doing would be taking it to a local guitar store in your town (if such a thing exists) and getting it professionally set up - this can cost like $50-100 but it tends to make even a lower grade instrument a hell of a lot more playable and functional to me.
Officially you should get someone to asses it before you buy - make sure there arn't issues with the neck truss rod and that kind of shit - but that said - sometimes you have to grit your teath....I bought a Gibson Les Paul Studio once online and it turned out to be fine. So not everyone is bad on ebay!! But also - you'd want to make sure its not a copy or somehting bullshit like that too!

Why has there been no official word about a release? I mean i've been around the block...i know GNR always do things the odd way. But if we are gearing up for a november release doesn't anyone else think it's getting to the point where the silence means that it's again not happening yet?
I mean look at Ac/Dc. I see them as a similar band in that they both somewhat iconic in the classic rock world, and Ac/Dc has had 8 years of holiday between albums and tours or something. Yet their record comes out Oct 16th and i've heard a single from it - and been reading press about it happening for at least a month.
I know axl likes to do it differently. But at the same time the record company and he surely will not do things to harm their album. If its comming out late november..i'd expect some comment about it within say another week - or its just not happening.....

"it's not like you hire a bunch of session people and make Guns N' Roses, it doesn't work that way"
Most true phrase in the history of phrases! I mean i like the leaks - but they're an axl solo project - a kickass one - but they can't be anything else when you have a track - and we can't tell if it's bucket, bumble, fink, huge, etc on guitar...no one knows who the drummer is...etc
#8529 Re: The Garden » Oh hi, i need some advice » 918 weeks ago
Is the ebay guy in Australia? Are you picking up - will he let you play it first?
I say this for a few reasons. Importing guitars of that value through customs is a bitch...they take them and quarientene them or whatever (cos of the wood) and you have to pay a bunch of fees to get it all passed and clear...so keep those costs in mind if its o/s.
Another is that the thing about Epis and Gibsons is they're quite variable. A good one is golden. A bad one is just average. I'm not saying it will be a bad one...but they are all very unique.
Don't pay that price for a studio...if its a studio not a standard its definately worth a lot less. Someone will be able to tell you the specific differences...they still play nice...but i think they are thinner and lighter...which is easier to hold but can mess with sustain etc...

Sorry to spam the thread...but I was just thinking...interest in VR seems to be at a low point...but I still think this band has potential to be great, slash duff and matt are awesome together...and Slash's recent work shows he is in form (recent live chops..and Alice Cooper song etc)...they could still do something really cool with the right people!
