I'm reminded of St Anger in that song.
I always felt St Anger could have been an ok album if they took the basic riffs and structured them properly into short songs not 8 minute aimless jams, then recorded the drum sounds better. So it could be reminisant of that and still sound ok to me.

I haven't listened to it besides the Axl tracks.
You should if you dig baz...there's some good screams!

That's the difference between us then. I actually believe that Slash's output is of considerably higher quality than Axl's. Sure, he has the numeric advantage as well, but that's just another of Axl's shortcomings. I rank IFOCS above the UYI's, by the way, so that might indicate something about my musical tastes
. I'm just a rock kinda guy, but I though you were too?
Ahh ok...i'm not sure I can really rate them against each other personally as I like them for different reasons. So I personally can't really see Axl or Slash as being of a better quality than the other - although i'll grant you Slash seems to turn on the magic far more often/easily than Axl does. But I don't really look at it as one is better than the other. Where we will agree is about how awesome Slash is. I'm always awed by him, especially live, but he stands out...even a throw-away (in the sence its routene for him to do this kind of thing) guest peformance like on the new Alice Cooper song "Vengance is Mine" is pretty damn impressive. Great outro solo!
Anyway...yeah...IFOCS is one of my favourite albums of all time. I think its head and shoulders above anything else as Slash's best guitar work to date (just my opinion). I'm not sure if i'd rank it over UYI in general in terms of the entire band (with vocals) - as that's a hard match - for one because its like 14 songs vs 30 songs. Although I think my favourites on IFOCS are better than much of UYI - but maybe not all 30 songs. Guitar wise i think snakepit has the edge...but I do miss axl's vocals and lyrics. I dig the snakepit vocals on about 1/2 of the record..but there's some tunes that i'd be lying if i didn't think would have been made better if Axl had accepted that record as GNR and added his lyrics.
I think the anti-slash ism comes mostly from people who are only familiar with VR. VR has some great songs...but slash was clearly going for a more modern style than in Snakepit 1...and i guess it wasn't for everyone.

I think a lot of people have heard Chinese Democracy. That wouldn't be a big shock. We know
there's a few people out there with CD in their possession. We get a leak every now and then.
Do those people have CD though or do they have a CD stolen from band members that had a few tracks for them to learn for the tour and/or some kind of 1999 version of the album? I'm not in a position to know...but I didn't think there's been any evidence anyone has anything from post bumblefoot joining?

Some friends of mine got married 2 years ago & instead of buying a home they chose to travel the world for a year. They said yes, you goto resturants and see DOG on the menu. You can also get chicken or beef but still dog seems disgusting. but on the other hand, what's the difference between eating cat or dog vs chicken or ostrich or something.
As a vegitarian I've never understood those distinctions. Like why is dog gross? Because it's cute? But lambs are really cute too? Because its friendlier. Seems all very artifical to me.
Then again...so much is odd...like why is it ok to drink milk that comes from a cow...yet an adult drinking human milk is usually considered somewhat peverse....surely its worse to drink the same thing from an animal? I guess i'm just fucked in the head!

With all due respect, but I honestly think that's the buzz and excitement of the leaks and the prospect of a new GNR album talking. The new stuff has some hooks, some interesting bits, I'll give you that. But I think you're elevating it beyond what it is.
Perhaps...but then this is always going to be one of those areas where people disagree.
I don't think the leaks are the best material i've ever heard from Axl. But its still of a good standard. Likewise I don't think Slash's playing on Lenny Kravitz's "Fields of Joy" is the best thing he's every played. But its still of a good standard. That's my point..they're both great musicans who made magic together inside of GNR, and outside of GNR - while perhaps not hitting the same highs due to the absence of the other - still clearly demonstrate their awesome talents.
My test for the leaks is as follows:
Step 1: Take the 3 songs you consider "worst" off UYI 1+2 (I wont list names because one thing I know is that everyone has different concepts of what/if any the 'filler' tracks are).
Step 2: Take the 3 songs you consider "best" of the leaks. (Again..it seems there is no consensus among fans as to what this is...some love a song some hate it..so choose your own).
Step 3: Make a new verison of UYI 1+2 with the 3 tracks you selected in step 2 substituted into the places of the tracks you picked in Step 1.
Step 4: Listen to it back. Is the new album drasticly worse or better than it was before? My guess is around about the same, and possibily better depending on how much you dislike the songs in step 1.
My point is that while the standard most people have is the BEST tracks from GNR....in reality not every song any musican records is going to be their best tune...and while I like pretty much every GNR track for some reason or another...some are clearly better than others to me. I feel that what my test shows is that if the best of the leaks is at least on par with the worst of the old stuff....then there is definate potential for the album to be good - when you consider that the leaks are unmastered and unfinished.
I mean old gnr is a magic that may never be repeated. But I feel the leaks show CD has a chance at being a decent stand alone album, just as in my opinion, Slash's solo work outside of GNR is descent. Whenever I hear either of them without the other I miss the other one - but they still have enough talent to survive on their own for sure

I only ever watch the opening cermony in the olympics. Oh except for LA in 84 where I watched the weightlifting....
#8829 Re: Guns N' Roses » Song #2 (Prostitute) is the biggest gun of all IMO » 926 weeks ago
Care to point me in the direction of someone here wanting an AFD remake?
I do...but not with the new band...I want the old guys to go into the studio and re-record that shit on protools in lossless highdef audio...and now that slash can shred faster in paradice city and nightrain...
ok...wait I thought I did want that when i started this post...now i realise what an offence to man, god, and music history that would be!!
I must say though - theres times when the old production values of appetite hurt me...i mean the record itself is fucking killer - but you listen to tracks off it after say TSI - and you can hear everything get a lot more quiet and analog mixed.....
#8830 Re: Guns N' Roses » Song #2 (Prostitute) is the biggest gun of all IMO » 926 weeks ago
This is gonna sound really strange, but here's how this song goes for me:
When it starts I usually don't want to listen to it. But by the time it's over I'm usually really glad I did.
'm the same way about a couple of the leaks...i think i'm sick of them or consider skipping them, then listen to them and get wraped up and carried away in them again.
