Hey J,
Can I ask a question? How were you able to master the tracks without having the original source files? Like you made these from an Mp3 or something right? I would have thought you'd need to have the original protools files to be able to bring things up and down properly in the mix and isolate the parts.
NB: I totally believe this is your work, so i'm not at all implying you didn't do it, or giving you a hard time or anything like that. I'm just a guitarist and thus ignorant of the world of recording/mastering enginers and that kind of thing..(ui just play my part and go home..then they do their magic LOL) .and trying to get my head around how it it all works

Gimme a break...we got morons running around screamin' about how Axl's lost his high range. Anyone who thinks the recorded vocals on these nine songs point to any loss of vocal ability on Axl's part isn't listening with their ears.
Actually I've thought for years that axl might have damaged his *low* range.
When he performs the AFD era songs live, if there is a part when he tends to sound forced or struggle these days, it's always the low register parts of the melody IMHO, and at times it's like he is imitating his old sound (eg Patience) to some extent. It's not every song and every time. But it happens now.
Then...when you add to that how the new songs feature extremely high vocals (The irs scream, parts of the blues, the twat "i would do anything for you", much of "Song 2"(ie prostitute/message for you/whatever), and his work with Baz on angel down) to a greater extent than his old songs; i think there's a case to say his voice may have altered over the years. Be it through natural aging, or damage from the UYI era or something else, but he has a 'new' voice. And it seems to do high much easier than it does the low notes.
However, that's not to say the singing is bad on these leaks. By contrast I think the singing is awesome!!! I'm just saying there is some case to say its *different* from the Axl of old...not better or worse necesarily...just noticable that it's not the exact same voice. Like even if we could hear the vocal line isolated from the music, we wouldn't mistake these vocals for something from TSI or Lies etc
Anyway...aside from that...as much as I love the old band, I feel this material for the most part is very strong. It's what I expected from Axl - strong melodies, lyrics and great NR style ballads, mixed in with some experimental stuff like OMG and Rhiad. I'm really looking forward to the album from the leaks. I think it will be an enjoyable CD.

Its interesting to hear the VR auditions to see how the band could have been different without scott (and will be again now I guess!)
Is there any other audition stuff out there other than "Pleasin" and "Eye for an Eye" and "Room 169"....or is that all that exists?
Also is there a version of Room 169 that goes more than 1.44? As mine seems to stop abruptly!!

BBF has an unfortunate tendency to add fretboard wankery to simple solos; compare his version of the first Nightrain solo with Bucket's more restrained, melodic version, for instance. I wouldn't want Ron wanking all over, for instance, Robin's sublime TWAT solo...
I'd have to listen to the nighttrain versions again to compare to be honest, i'm in the minority but despite all the shredding in the outro of recent years, that's still a classic Slash solo to me - i kinda prefer the slower but blusier way he does it.
Anyway to be fair to bumble...most of the time he is emulating bucket...and bucket has a tendancy to play with his kill switch and octive shift pedals in every second solo, which I think ron substitutes for fretless harmoics and general fretboard masturbation. I'm a fan of both bucket and ron, all i'm saying is the parts he was brought in to play are wanky parts, and he's playing them wanky as asked. Very very cool and hard to play wanky parts i might add!
From interviews with Ron it sounds like he was very much into Angus Young style lead playing before getting into Van Hallen and stuff...so i'm wondering if he chose to adapt to emulating robin's style, if that would bring out a less shreddy side of him.
It's probably something that's unliekly to happen I guess though.

Oh I didn't mean he wasn't able.
BBF is VERY VERY good on guitar...believe me i've noticed!! He has some serious technique.
I ment more like...I wonder if he would agree to become fink live, and bucket return to do bucket's bit, or if he would consider this a demotion from his current position. I think he'd prob get more parts to play...but then not as show-off-fun as his current bits
So i ment more I wonder if the personalities involved allow for a BBF, Bucket, Fortus line up....bumble seems like a pretty easy going guy, so its possible...but then there were stories that bucket caused tension in the band last time wern't there? Or was that just cos robin was intimidated. (I know i would have been if bucket joined the band i was lead guitarist for!)

A spot of doubt crept into my mind tonight.
Let me be clear - my hope and feeling is that this means the song will be in the game, then a single, then the album.
But my doubt and fear: that this is - Oh My God - all over again. Band shows up for a 1 song track endorsement - distributes a song completely out of nowhere - and it ends up having no relevance to the eventual CD release.
I hope that's not the case though. Given they say the album is done, it should be the first phase in getting it out there.
Be interesting if the new management was brought in to get a bucket reunion not a slash reunion. Could also explain Robins departute.
I'm the biggest Slash fan on earth - i think he and axl were born to share a stage. But that said - in the post slash world - bucket is the kind of guy that can bring credibility to the band - in a music sence. He has a presence and gimic that will make people pay attention, and love or hate his antics, he has the bad ass guitar skills to back his shit up. Like frankly...I saw a dude in a horror mask with a used food container on his head and thought "what a gimp" - then I saw him play and promptly shut the fuck up!
Yes some people will mock him for looking odd, Just like the people mock Axl for wearing a Kilt or the braids. Those people ignore the badass voice of axl, and the basass playing of bucket. But the point is he has the skills and starpower for those that would listen to pull off being a replacment for slash. Something that robin never ever had.
Put it like this, even though I want Slash and Axl together, bucket in the band is the kind of guy in the band that makes you excited about hearing the guitar parts on the album, cos you know they will be impressive.
I wonder if we could get BBF to play finks stuff, then bring bucket back in and keep Richard....

Oh yeah!! Ok..i need to chill out but this is cool news. Also thanks to whoever it was that told us Walmart was doing a $100 giftcard with ps3 about a month ago. I've lost the thread now...but that's why I got one..and now i'll be ready for GNR

I guess it could fall appart. But a completely new track (not even a leak) being released in any offical context = progress to me!!!

Ihave no problem with Fortus and Bumble promoting themselves via GNR.
I mean if i was in GNR i'd be screaming to everyone that I'm in GNR! I guess that's just cos its my favourate band...but still...they should be alowed to say they are in GNR.
I don't even have a problem with them not answering questions, as I would guess that isn't their idea...it must either be a gag order from Axl or they are just too afraid of pissing him off cos of his temprement.
But if frank is posting jokes about updates when we never get updates, well that's kinda uncool to fans.

This is my take on Cornshucker. From the "Lies Recordings" version as the live one was a lot different.
It may be wrong in places, as I don't have the best ears and it's hard to hear with them all talking over each other and stuff. Some of the spoken lines in the middle I just can't make out. But i've got as much of the antics as I could.
