WHAT THE FUCK.

He played here like 2 months ago or something in a series of surprise small piano based gigs.

He was a bit late to the stage but I hear they were wonderful shows.

Wow. I said when 2016 got underway it would be a bad year for this. All the people we grew up on are at the youngest early 50s up to early-mid 70s. I never would have expected Prince. The 80s music icons are slipping away. sad MJ the big one, Whitney a couple years later, Bowie recently, now Prince.

Always wanted to do a celebrity death pool here with our quirky community like other sites do but the game is in really bad taste. I think we almost did one about 7 or 8 years ago but held back at the last second.

Bri is spot on...he was a great guitarist but that got overlooked due to the kind of music he releases. LIndsey Buckingham is in this category as well.  It will be interesting to see what else he did over the years as this guy recorded albums that never got released. I hope there's a rock album in the vault and it was recorded mid 80s-mid 90s.

I didn't know what his present day stance on the subject was but now the world will never get a Prince and the Revolution reunion. He didn't need it but it was a trump card he could have whipped out in the future to get an instant buzz and go on a major tour.

.  Ashame he kinda struggled in the 90s, with the whole name thing...

I was a casual Prince fan and never followed him to the point of being on forums, keeping up with news, etc. but I think it's safe to say he regretted that name/symbol thing. It was such a short sighted move. It put him in the headlines immediately, sparked controversy with everyone talking about it for like a week, and when he released something using that symbol, no one knew how to deal with it and it became 'the artist formerly known as Prince..." and his career never fully recovered from it. In fact, the last song of his that I can name is The Most Beautiful Girl in the World which just happens to be the last song released during that whole saga. I also remember the re-release of 1999 in 1999. After that...nada.

80s stars in general had difficulties adjusting to 90s pop culture. prince added an obstacle with the name thing. He then added more obstacles in the 2000s being so out of touch with the downloading era and pissed too many people off. Only news I know about him in the 2000s other than his death is how he ranted againt downloading to the point of getting his own fan sites shut down. I think this was around 2007-08.

This is probably my favorite Prince song.
