Spears' dad to tighten grip over estate

LOS ANGELES: The father of singer Britney Spears has strengthened control over her affairs with an order to fire her business manager and a demand that he turn over her personal records.

A court document, which was posted on celebrity news website TMZ.com, said that Howard Grossman was notified of a court order granting JameS Spears the right to fire him as the singer's business manager and require Grossman "turn over all documents, records, and assets relating to Britney".

The move follows charges by Spear's mother Lynne in court documents made public earlier this week that the pop star's self-style manager, Sam Lufti, had drugged her to take control of her home, life and finances.

Late last week the 26 year-old was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital and placed under psychiatric evaluation.

By Wednesday, Spears had left the UCLA Medical Center and one day later, Jamie was back in court in a closed-door hearing to strengthen his conservatorship over her assets.

Commissioner Reva Goetz also ordered Grossman to turn over "all documents, records and assets relating to Spears" to James.

Goetz issued her decision Friday after an emergency closed-door hearing requested a day earlier by James Spears. Grossman showed up at the hearing, but he and others were ordered to leave the courtroom.

Grossman would not say if he had been fired or how long he had worked for Spears.

"My reputation speaks for itself," he said, declining to comment further on the order because it would be speculative.

Meanwhile, attorneys who have represented Spears in her child custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline filed papers to withdraw from that case. Attorney Sorrell Trope filed papers in Los Angeles Superior Court asking to quit the case, said a court spokeswoman. Trope previously withdrew a similar request.

Well all of this is past due, maybe her father will redeem himself. New Attorneys will help, they are far to jaded at this point to represent her. This does not look like it extended her fathers hold over her estate (or placed a motion to do this) any longer than the initial emergency order granted him it just gave him/and her access to her financial records, which a professional would have already copied and turned over.

I am a bit concerned over it.

He has no training in financial management and with all the best intentions in the world, especially now with all the subprimes problems and the unstable stock market, he could end up ruining his daughter.

No, actually, i am VERY concerned.

He might ruin her, but all of her hangers on will ruin her even quicker. Just ask MC Hammer.
