Played it for a few friends. Thought it to be overproduced but really good.

Better: They liked it. Thought it had a nice feel

Shackler's: Was a mixed opinion on this. Ranging from it's ok to Reminds me of a better Rob Zombie.

If The World: porno guitars made the song pretty cool.

Chinese
Democracy: Very coverable. take out of that what you will.

The Blues: Pretty good. nice ballad.

Riad: Reminds them a tad of Immagrent Song.

Catcher(the demo): Had a very nice feel to it. Very classic rock.

Madagascar: Very powerful. Liked the strained old timey blues style lyrics.

Prostitute: Very Very awesome.

I.R.S: Ok tries a bit hard.

So far i havn't played much of the album to my friends. My girlfriend listened to it and said it was 'listenable' - which from her is a huge compliment cos she only listens to accoustic folk music as a rule - mind you I was fucking her at the time so doing my absolute best to distract her LMAO

Bet If The World really helped set the mood....

I showed the title track to one of my co-workers, who is a GN'R fan, but wasn't around in the hey days, she's only 24. She was interested when the track began but after like one and a half minutes she asked if anything will happen in the song. I asked her to listen the whole, since one of the guitar solos is pretty good. After listening it, she said the song is good, but nothing special

I told my brother who is a big old GN'R fan and heard only a few of the leaks (he hates VR with passion) that the album is out. He's a musician so I was really curious what he thinks.
He got CD and said the title track is great and energic, but he was quite disappointed hearing Shackler. Better was OK for him, but hated The Blues (excpet the solo), cause he found Axl's vocals the worst ever (I second that, it sounds like a bad demo take). If The World reminded him to some porn music and he absolutely hated it, but got excited hearing the final TWAT he knew and liked. He said 'those solos are fabulous'. Dani (that's his name) told me that when he heard CITR, he was about to either skip it or stop listening the album. He was strong, lol, so he made it through to Scraped, which he described as an 'interesting track', but after Riadh he gave up, cause got tired of the album.
He thinks that the songs are unfinished, which some monsters here and there, but at least half of the songs are not good enough. He said that too much and too less happen in the songs at the same time. I asked him to listen the remaining tracks. Still waiting for it.

i have mates who straight of the bat diss the album without even hearing it, there not gnr they say i have had many of arguments with them about it its really frustrating. giving cd to a work mate hes curious about it. he ask if it sounded like old gnr, im like keep an open mind it will grow on ya.

In the pub last night my mates were wanting to hear it so the barman who we know stuck it on. There were laughs and halfway through Better it got turned off and Lies was put on instead. The general consensus was that it was a pile of shit, so everyone spent the rest of the night rocking out to old GNR instead. And this is coming from guys who listen to old GNR regularly and were massive fans back way back when. Most people I know wont give it the time of day, even after being bombarded with the CD single on Radio 1.

I can imagine people getting shocked after hearing Shackler and the first minute of Better. Better is a good song, though, just very not classic GN'R.

my dad is an old school fan. he loves good rock. he's a big fan of AFD and popular UYI, loves the stones, zeppelin, elton john, and CCR. he took me to my first gnr show, and was at the cancelled show in philly in 2002.

he likes the album. ALOT. his favorite tracks are TIL, IRS, TWAT, and the Blues. there's a few he doesn't like - madagascar, riad come to mind. but he said overall the album is great. and that he's looking forward to listening to it alot more and that songs like CD, better, and catcher will quickly grow on him.

I played the album for my mom, because she's a totally unbiased source. (she's not a rock fan either)

CD - very interesting. a new era, energic, intro & the outros are scary in a way.

Shackler's - very energetic track, she enjoyed it. Fun and modern.

Better - no opinion, take or leave.

Street of Dreams - hated Axl's vocals, took away from the song. Thumbs down.

If The World - very interesting song. She enjoyed it instrumentally, very different. But wasn't crazy about Axl's vocals.

TWAT - really good, one of the better songs on the album

Catcher - average, no opinion.

Scraped - sucks

Riad - sucks

Sorry - loves it. Her favorite off the album.

I.R.S. - average, no opinion.

Madagascar - really cool. Not the best, but likeable, and cool.

This I Love - her favorite ballad off the album. Loves it.

Prostitute - enjoys the intro & outro, but not the rest.

Chinese Democracy actually got requested Saturday night when I was djing. I played it, it went over failry well. Obvioulsy some had heard it on radio. Then the guy who requested asked if I had the album I told him yeah so he said play something else. I played Better and he fucking loved it.

Closing time and we're sitting around, bouncers are chatting, girls are doing cash out. Anyways I'm playing CD. Started it at If the World and it made it all the way to CITR before Derek(bouncer) says, "what the fuck is this shit? I told him and he said "sounds like shit". I took that as my cue to turn it off and play something else(I put on a Mike Ness cd)

Just got an MSN message from a buddy who bought it. Says hes only listened to the first 3 songs. Says the first two were alright but #3 was awesome. Obvioulsy #3 being Better.
