Wouldn't read too much into that. Likely one of the must have's for Slash in a reunion is to be free to do his own thing once Axl puts on the brakes. And Axl wouldn't bring Slash back if it wasn't long term, as it would hurt his new GNR brand. Only way these shows is the only thing they have planned is if Axl plans to retire.

I agree about Brain - but Slash and DJ side by side would be kind of absurd. Both wearing their respective top hats - both arching into the same guitar lord poses and both lighting up a smoke during patience. Give me a break!

DJ in a reunion would be the worst thing ever.

Agreed, unfortunately I think that is a significant likelihood.

I think he may have booked this tour to go out with a bang and secure some retirement funds.

he might start releasing songs off various ChiDem sessions and actually start making money on all that - there are supposed to be tons of recordings. no need to earn billions, just a more "anthology" approach - I'm sure those would be a nice profit for him.
but suddenly I woke up, realizing all this is about two words - AXL and RELEASE in one sentence, and that's probably the single most unrealistic thing ever.

Maybe. You'd think he would promote it as a farewell tour then though.

He was never in it for the money, so I think he plans to continue making music. With Slash back he gets the best guitarist and the financial pull to control and tinker for as long as he wants. Just do some shows, release a greatest hits album and his backers will be happy. A reunion is what the fans want and what the label/promoters want. Suddenly Axl stops being the bad guy.

Yes Adler wants back in the band. But, he's a junkie still. And a huge liability. So why set yourself up for that failure?

As for Matt, he has no writing credits in the band and was just a replacement.

Also, he has a piss poor attitude.

I thought I heard that Duff and Slash kind of had a disdain for him a couple years ago, wonder if that is still the case.

I assume Axl isn't a fan.

Personally I rather have: Josh Freese (but dude is always busy) or Brain back. But, Frank seems like a good guy that doesn't take a piss everywhere or act like a retarded man child like Matt "dip shit" Sorum.

The junkie is not getting a call and neither is the prick.

When I think of Guns I'm not like oh man I really need Adler up there. Maybe if dude had his shit together. But he has had since 1991 to do so and can't.

@TheSundanceKid: I could never say it better. 100% agree! maybe the Josh Freese thing, I don't think he's interested in this at all, it's more than 16 years since he was in the band, hard to say if he ever considered himself a proper band member, or more like a session specialist (no bad meanings about it, he's a session ace for sure).

Pitman staying studio-only doesn't bother me overmuch – I could imagine Slash balking at the bleeps and bloops emanating from his keyboard setup. However, it does suggest that Madagascar's off the cards, which is odd as ISTR reading that they were rehearsing it.

Yeah but it's not common for drummers to get writing credits unless they have a partnership in the band.

Writing credits are about copyright in lyrics and melody. Often when a band is new they will divide things equally such as on AFD - so as to include the drummer and bass player, or somebands do it that way for band unity (eg U2). However there's no way the second drummer to a band as big as GNR was when Adler was thrown out was coming in as a partner.

So the legal BS aside...the reality is he wrote those drum parts, it's just that drum parts don't normally attract songwriting copyright - but at the end of the day - the drum parts he wrote are awesome and make the songs - YCBM, Locomotive etc.

Matt is by far the most important drummer GNR has had in my opinion - he drums on 1/2 the entire catalogue, his drumming is flawless and sets the tone of most of the songs.

I like this.

Bottom line, you can't have two dicks in the band. Axl is the dick we need. Matt is the dick we don't. They wouldn't get along, and you don't need that element when Axl and Slash together already is mixing gasoline and fire.
