Last week I finally decided to watch this series. I am a few episodes away from the season finale. Tony was almost killed in a hit, and now he's basically gonna have to decide what to do.

This series is such a fresh take on the mob angle. Not just with the psychiatric angle, but I really like the love/hate relationship between him and his mother.

Hard to believe I went all these years without watching any of this series. I remember the buzz, but basically ignored it.

I know nothing about what goes on during the rest of this series, so do NOT post any spoilers.

I wouldnt dream of ruining it for you, its such a great show.  The final season one ep will have you flipping out.  Word of caution though, have season two ready to roll before you finish the finale.

Yeah, I watched the season finale a couple days ago. Still cant believe that Tony didn't get to kill Junior. I'll probably start season two in a day or so.

I've never seen this show either. I believe I'm gonna put the blu-rays on the Netflix queue and start it off very soon.

Russ what are you waiting for...do it!!  Season 1 to 3 are the best 5 22

The series as a whole was great but you'll see as you watch season to season how it becomes less raw and more like dreams states, other interests and psychological stuff thrown in and it took away from that raw in your face Goodfellas feel with a hint of that but all in all a great show indeed.

I miss it :wtf:

I'm about to watch the first episode of season two. Scored some more weed, and since I got nothing to do, I think I'll watch quite a bit of this season tonight.

I thought I was the only person who had never watched this series. Didn't think anything I said would be a spoiler to anybody. Russ, you should definitely get the first season.

Sounds like this series fell into the 'X Files trap". Very original and creative, then buys into its own hype and the quality heads down the toilet.

I don't think the quality ever really went down the toilet necessarily, but I get what DTJ was saying too.  It's more like in the later seasons you spend about 1 episode per season going "What the fuck was that?".

I also thought they had the problem of introducing too many interesting characters and don't really have the time to tell their stories.  Like there should have been a couple spin-offs or something, although spin-offs are rarely as good as the show they came from, so it's probably a good thing they didn't.

I watched four episodes of season two, and the quality is already starting to decline. Sure, shit happens. The return of Big Pussy, Tony taking over, etc. However, the two main things that made me get drawn into the series(dysfunctional relationship with his mother, and his issues with the psychiatrist) are now taking a backseat. More characters get killed and introduced, and it starts becoming typical mob shit. The last episode I watched where he goes to Italy is almost laughable. Its a mob cliche, and they just throw in the sexist twist of Tony not wanting to do business with a woman.

Please.

If I want to just watch people get whacked or see the usual mob cliches, I'll rent The Godfather, Goodfellas, or Casino. I don't need to watch seasons worth of it to get the same thing.

This series seems to be straying from the roots of its first season.

Cool!  A Sopranos thread I can participate in.  Living in Japan where we get everything so much later, I've always had to avoid these threads because I was afraid of spoiling it for myself.

I'm still waiting for them to release the damn season 6 DVDs over here so I can finish.  I watched up through season 5 so far and can kind of see what DTJ was saying, but there's still some episodes in later seasons that I really like.  I know they're secondary characters, but I can't get enough of Pauly and especially Sil.  Those guys crack me up.
