AC's an odd situation. I was in Tahoe about 10 years ago, beautiful place. A major snowstorm was coming in our last day there so we went to Reno our last night & stayed there (flew out of there I thinK). Anyway, Reno's a dump. I was shocked how bad it seemed, I always guessed it was like a mini-Vegas but it wasn't at all.

At least Atlantic City has the boardwalk, and ocean. A nice summer night, it's gotta be a better place to go. Initially, it was a beach town, I think mostly a family town but it always was known for day trippers as its kinda a straight shot down a highway & even a train runs/ran to it. The casinos came in the 70s. I remember being there as a kid & they had a Playboy casino lol. It only lasted a few years. It also has pretty close proximity to NYC, probably less than 2 hours, fairly quick commute especially back then.

Yeah the town itself is a wreck. Ashame but the casinos & city officials really shot themselves in the foot with it. All the tax revenue gained from gambling, if they had truly reinvested back even a little bit into the town, make it nicer and more of a beach town resort, with the boardwalk, they could be killing it. Maybe not like Vegas but it could've had a scene. Instead yeah its just old smoky people betting the coinslots. Borgata is a nice place if ever you get a chance to visit, other than that tho they're all duds.

I think Taj Mahal failed pretty much immediately. Within a few years of opening in 87ish he filed. To his credit, I heard his staffers were always non-union, and that he paid them pretty well. So whenever the casino workers union would strike, Trump casinos would remain open. Far as I know the workers never complained over it. If they were paid peanuts I'm sure the union would've won them over.

Going back to Trump. One thing Flagg, you keep mentioned 2020, Trump getting reelected etc... Despite what Republicans tell us, our economy has actually been improving for many years, 6-7. Another 2 years of boom and we might begin to see signs of a recession, just by its own cyclical nature. I think they say it tends to go about 8 years before a downturn, even just a minor one. Which would seems to follow. 2008 massive crash, 2000 dot com, 1992 which led to HW not getting reelected, then early Reagan years. The 70s were a mess all around & I don't know much before then plus Vietnam probably impacted things.

Anyway, you get my drift. If nothing else I see a slowing economy & housing market in another 2 years. Something along the lines of HW Bush. Remember his approval rating was thru the roof in 90-91 during Desert Storm/Kuwait, yet a year later it all kinda fell thru for him by a relatively minor recession. It's not gonna be all gravy.

Various tidbits:

1) Downtown Reno is dumpy, but it's being rebuilt away from it's original heavy casino presence. I'd imagine in 10 years it will be a really cool area. Not long ago Reno was bigger than Vegas, believe that or not. However the rest of Reno is gorgeous IMO. Most people visiting don't see much more than downtown or Tahoe.

2) The Fed is raising rates again, this might slow down asset prices. However if this horrible tax bill passes, and it's looking like it might, I'd imagine Wall Street will celebrate, pushing prices up even more. However a recession most certain is in order, as you said, simply by the cyclical nature of the economy. It's almost past due IMO.

3) No way Trump finishes his term. 2020? I find this hard to fathom. Even if he did make it through this term and tried to run, he'll get probably get primaried by the GOP and if he beat that, he'd lose to the Democrat. Trump's approval ratings right now are record lows. Lower than any president at this point in his presidency so far. He's not going to get better, and he's not going to change.

4) It is heavily rumored that Paul Ryan is going to leave. Word is that he doesn't want to be around for the Trump fiasco as it continues to unfold and his party unifies to obstruct justice. This is authoritarianism we're slowly watching unfold  masquerading as "special investigations" and "accountability."

5) Omarosa was fired from the White House. She's crazy, and I'm curious what she's going to say/do next.

6) Lindsey Graham said we have a high chance of attacking NK if they launch missiles again...yippie.

So are we having fun yet? Are we going to say there is no difference between the two parties? The two candidates? That a reality TV show and real estate con man is acceptable to run the country? I hope everybody is enjoying this shit show.

Interesting. I heard Ryan was rumored to be considering stepping down, didn't know it might be 'rumored' to be because he didn't want to lead the counter obstruction. Interesting theory. He's denied it of course but who knows. Trying to put an end to it is about the worst thing they can attempt to do. They'd be better off with a hands of approach & just let him go down, then get Pence in there and hope to runa solid candidate again in 2020. Kasich would be alright. Jeg would reunite the republicans, and Rubio might be able to reunite them in a new er direction. Heck, its not like the Democrats have much of a solid candidate.

It does make you realize how important that Alabama seat was. Thats essentially stealing a seat, in what typically is a 5-7 seat field. All Dems have to do then is take on 2 seats in 2018 to win it back. If the Russia thing blows up badly then they likely can. Add to that further downfall & distrust of the GOP and could the guy win again in 3 years. While its not too likely, even without the Russia thing dropping, all he has to do is walk a bit of a fine line, and the Dems allow him to walk a fine line, and if he does an ok job in the Senate he might have a shot being an incumbant.

The Russia thing if something comes of it could be disastrous for the 2018 & 2020 elections. And for the record, I was just playing devils advocate that "if" Trump made it to 2020 would he really even win then?  I say he goes down in 2018.

Omarosa's a nutjob. Always has been even back to the The Apprentice. She always seemed like that wacky lady who takes things outta proportion & makes mountains out of molehills, and needs to be the center of attention & decisionmaker. Even in things minute or things over her head.

I am curious about her 'tell all', but there better be something legitimate there. Wouldn't surprise me if she's looking to spill dirt on The Apprentice days but really it just sounded like she didn't get along with some staff members & aides. The timing of it after AL just makes it seem like she was happy Jones won & GOPers were upset with her & they got into an argument, but we'll see.

The difference between the parties is obvious.  The fact that there are far more similarities and people like you ignore that is more troubling.  You're letting the side show distract you, which is exactly the reason for the sideshow.

I don’t know this guy. However that questioning doesn’t mean he would be a shitty judge. There are many judges that know all those technical questions that are still shit judges. What I would look for with a judge is his JUDGMENT and his ability to follow the constitution. He will learn all those terms in no time. He seems like an intelligent guy. Obviously it would be great if he knew each answer. However I am not saying he would be a shitty judge.

And this is why Trump will get re-elected. Democratic loyalists will sacrifice Franken but won’t go after the people who cause real damage. She’s Gloria Allred’s daughter for your trivial pursuit.

The video seems to only play on the actual twitter feed link, but yeah. Hard to believe he wasn't better prepped just answer some of the terminology questions.

Fair point, however there are alot of proceedings to court hearings as to what testimony should/shouldn't be included, what witnesses can be asked, what evidence can be allowed etc. Nuances.

Like the OJ case, idiot Lance Ito did not allow the Al Cowlings phone call, and the other week the Arizona police officer who executed the guy in the hotel hallway had "You're Fucked" on his assault rifle, but that was not allowed as evidence. Things like that where it can be a bit of a 'judgement call'. Its not all black & white.

You're right though in a way, terminology isn't the only thing, or the best thing. However I still say he should've been a bit better prepared for such a line of questioning. Don't you open up your old law school books or order a book online as a refresher?
