Still can't believe that song wasn't the biggest thing of 2006-07. Release that in the 80s-90s and it sells 10 million copies.

For starters...its demo/early mix is better. Some chick on the Liz Phair forum gave me those songs like a year before the record came out.

Also... the video sucks.

Feel sorry for artists/bands who swing for the fences but nothing really happens. All these years later and it only has 300k views on YouTube.

Same with her....

That should've been huge. Instead it did nothing. It must have crushed her.  To this day that album has sold a grand total of 29k copies.

She still hasn't released a follow-up.

Imo this is just your personal taste talking. I don't think any of those songs have much hit potential.

This is a fantastically underrated album:

Jane's Addiction must be the band with the longest gestation period for me. Discovered them almost 20 years ago and never really got into it. I liked Jane Says of course and Three Days from the second album, but that was it as far as specific songs went. I always gave both albums a spin now and then, say every couple of years, but it never settled for me.

Until a couple of days ago. I moved into my own house the year before last, and as a result of no close neighbours my listening habits have taken a major upswing. So I got to the point where I was getting tired of my playlist and it just popped into my head to give Ritual a spin, it had been a while. Now usually I don't sit down and listen to a whole album as I don't have time for that, so as I'm walking away I notice "Stop" has quite a punch to it. To me it had always been just an okay song, nothing special, but now I thought this actually sounded quite good.

But that was all I heard from that particular album that night. I went to do something else and by the time I got back it was played through, and I put on something else. The next day I had it in the back of my mind so I put it on again. This time it was Three Days and the end of the album and I thought this was quite good too. Certainly a little better than I remembered it. So I did "the test". I searched up Nothing's Shocking. I only ever really liked Jane Says on that album, but now I played it from the start. There was no immediate reaction but I liked what I heard. Enough to play it again tonight.

This is just an incredible song. Mind blowingly good. Both those albums are fantastic, and it escaped me for all these years. I'm not sure whether it is all other bands that are too similar or these guys being too unique, either way it is probably why it took so long to get used to them.

That's wacky.

Itll be my favorite song for two days.

I wish this had gotten huge...or maybe more covers in the future. Other than some aging fans in Britain, it's as if Elastica had never existed. They slipped through the cracks of time.

Polluxlm...

If you're getting into Jane's....you gotta give Porno for Pyros a spin.

My favorite songs on the record.....

Even though she's lip syncing, it's still bad ass...

She just oozes sex appeal.

It's unfortunate that she wasn't more talented. Couldn't write a good song to save her life.

She's a female icon... considered a trailblazer...yet has an incredibly weak discography. Her best songs would fit on an EP...and most would be covers.

She needed someone like Desmond Child to whip her up a shit ton of hits.

Edit

I just looked up her biggest hit that wasn't a cover....I Hate Myself For Loving You...and it was written by Desmond Child.  lol

I'll say it till my dying day.... should've been bigger than Madonna.

She had bad timing with everything... band breaking up, trying to be a movie star, and their comeback.

The comeback was successful but it was 10 years too late.

I'm gonna pull the trigger on the Early Years Pink Floyd set. I have to after hearing this....

I should've got it after I started getting into the pre-Dark Side material.

I wish they had saved that song for a later album. It got buried on an album that the band even hates(Atom Heart Mother).
