There was a clip leaked back in 2008 that was thought to be The General, about 32 seconds long. Started out with the lyric "Once upon a time..." Anyone know the clip I'm referring to?

Unfortunately...I don't.

There were so many fake clips back in the day I started blocking them all out and stopped downloading.

Dave...do you remember this one?

Is it just me or does that melody appear in both new leaks?

I hear it in both aswell. I feel like both are suppose to be one song but they split it into two for some reason

1000% this. Feels like one song turned into 2.

Ok, so..

What a great Turn today from complete fuck off to TWO new songs ?

And contrarily to most posts i read i fuckin love the General!! Really atmospheric and a killer chorus. I‘m kinda missing the orchestra, but it seems to be buried there.

Monsters has to be Soul monster. I‘m not so much into it yet as a whole , but the bridge is really the meanest axl has ever sounded if you ask ne!

I think what most people bash the general for is the mix. Its all over the place.

I listened only on headphones, now on a stereo i get your point..

And it‘s clearly Slash in my opinion

This also explains why State of Grace was abandoned and never mentioned by the GNR camp.

It's similar to both but the inferior track.

Warming up to The General.

Soul Monster is a beast. 9

I would like the general more if the mix was better

Supposedly, Nando commented on Reddit that the vinyl was delayed due to the poor quality. This is probably from the vinyl. Hopefully the final version is better

from mygnr...

Before the thread got taken down on Reddit, Fernando commented this "It was held back due to the very bad quality of the vinyl we first received and we finally got it to the right spot."

If you look on his profile the comment is still there. I'm guessing what we are hearing is rips of these poor quality vinyls that have been rejected

If they rejected it because it was a shit pressing then good, imagine how pissed off people would be if the first time they heard it it was a crap pressing. That said obviously they should have said that before launch day.

Monsters at least has Slash on it & you can for sure hear differences to the Cell clip guitar wise. Both songs have the 2006 tour intro in them and I hope we at least get to someday hear the original somehow.

Re: The General and Monsters

Im listening to the  (labeled) evader-general clip, and general cellphone clip ( in a bar or club) that was in a "all leaks" zip file someone sent me not too long ago(pretty sure everyone had it before me)... and it's basically monsters.... but the evader clip... was almost spot on.. did he add his own spin on it, ?

These tracks prove how talented that band was. The diversity of all these Chinese tracks is very very impressive.

The 02 lineup had the spirit and chops of GnR. What could have been...

A few theories here. Monsters is a hidden track for the 7in, or was meant as a bside for the Atlas 7inch..

Another theory might be that Elvis Presley and the monsters of soul was always the general + monsters. Working titles maybe. Apparently Elvis's Manager Tom Parker was nicknamed The Colonel.

Gonna bump this, specifically the last theory as it seems to have been lost in the excitement
