For this record to succeed, it is important for Axl to shake the "rich, pampered, excess" ficade.  Again, Axl is inherently anti-establishment, but the public needs to be reintroduced to that side of him.  I was just suggesting a few ways, or channels he can circumnavigate which would help!  Ranting against Clear Channel and the loss of everyday freedoms in America seems right up his alley--just read the lyrics to Garden of Eden and Out to Get Me a few times.

Here's the article from the link above. Did I miss something or is this in no way a "response from Guns N' Roses"?

EXCLUSIVE: Lefsetz Jumps The Shark With Axl Rose
by Paul Cashmere - September 3 2008

The music industry has been asking itself when Bob Lefsetz would `jump the shark`. Well, it has finally happened.

`Jump The Shark` is a term used in the US television industry for when a show has past its use-by-date by veering off into ridiculous story lines.

In his latest bizarre rantings, Lefsetz has encouraged Axl Rose to kill himself.

In what can only be described as a remarkable example of insensitivity, Lefsetz wrote 'Of all the marketing/distribution ideas I received in response to my missive, I'll only reveal one, that upon the album's release, Axl Rose should commit suicide'.

Axl Rose should be furious that any human being could sink to such a low level. "It appears unethical, irresponsible, reprehensible, misguided and just the sort of thing a douchebag like Leftshitz would say," Guns N' Roses said in a statement to Undercover.

The Lefsetz column didn't stop with Axl. He also had the audacity to say 'At least John Lennon was smart enough to get shot just when his new album was released. Elvis croaked between album cycles '¦ Hell, what would happen if AC/DC died in a plane crash' Everybody would be wanting to click and buy at iTunes'.

Lefsetz has made a name for himself by criticising the problems of the industry but never offering solutions. He is widely read, I will grant him that, but people take note of loud noises.

His `Axl to suicide` rant would have to go down in the music industry as one of the lowest deeds of all time.

I love Axl's rants. I have always thought that really made him stand out. But please, Axl, dont start in with political rants!

After reading this thread, i'm thinking of shooting myself in the head.

Two quick questions...

1) Where's the confirmation?

2) Where's the funny?

I'll admit i was talking a bit pissy lol but thats cos i always felt people hate TSI just cos it isn't orginals or to get on the grunge vs rock band wagon of the time.

But the thing is this guy comes across an uninformed to me - i don't think its what the general public thinks when they hear Novermber Rain and the other songs from TSI.

As for street cred...I just feel like 'who cares' - stuff like giving the album away for free after 17 years making it  is insane talk to me! Release the thing and people will buy it - maybe it won't destroy the earth - but a ton of people will go out and guy it based on the brand name and axl's fame alone. Fuck trying to be friendly to the online world or get street cred all of that. wink

I hated TSI and it's not because it was all covers but because it sucked.  But that is my opinion and I respect yours.  As for giving the album away for free.  I agree with you.  THat's just insane talk.  Not after working on this for 17 years and spending more than 13 millions on this.  People who say that they should give it for free would say different if it was their money that was spent on this trainwreck.  As for his street cred.  GNR and Axl sold out many years ago when they released the UYI records because that is when they went the commercial road and one could argue they took that road with Lies.  So they lost their street cred so long ago that people don't even remember when they really had it.  As for being friendly to the online world.  Well GNR could be more friendly with their fans period.  But like I said in another thread.  Axl seems to be able to get away with this so why not do it.  His fans keep coming back for more.  I'd love to see a band like U2 or any other big bands try to treat their fans like shit the way Axl does.  Not sure they would get away with it.  Sad but true.

i am sorry but that is ridiculous, there is nothing commercial about UYI, or lies, you're an idiot. "police and niggers/immigrants and faggots", yes you're right! thats something people from all echelons of society can enjoy. and 10 minute songs, 2 hours worth of album, two released at the same time, yeahhhhh that just reeks of commercialisation, i can think of so many illiterate teen-boppers who would have been jumping out their skin to sink their teeth into the complexities of 'coma' or 'estranged', but of cause what am i doing, thinking logically? if anything the UYi albums are less commercial than AFD. but hey, what am i talking about, you read somewhere that the UYI albums aren't as good as AFD, so GNR 'sold out' when making them. christ, some people.

hey winkler lets keep the insults to a minimum..thanks

gnr released 13 tracks to radio as singles for the UYI's...its pretty safe to say they were going commercial bigtime...do i care? but it didnt strat @ UYI...it started at AFD...6 tracks released as singles out of 12 and  then another 5 of the afd tracks released as bsides and singles..thats just insane!

In my mind Lies was the least commercial of all the disks GnR released so i disagree with gnrfraxl there
