The Black Phone - Finally got around to watching this. Pretty damn good...a different spin on the genre. Considering the fact it revolves around getting phone calls from dead kids, I think it was a bit much to have the young sister have dreams/visions.
Please don't do a sequel to this. Completely unnecessary.
I didn't mind that little contrivance. I thought they should have gave the killer's brother a little more time though. It does nail the late 70s vibe pretty good, I think it's set in 78 but might be wrong.
Donnie Darko. I've never seen this before. And it turns out to be pretty interesting. I did find the time travel stuff kind of distracting and maybe uneccesary. I have no idea what to think about the ending. Probably requires a second viewing. I watched the 113 min theatrical cut.

I didn't check every venue but at several it's so empty.....you can buy blocks of 8 tickets in the row of your choice.
If one of these shows were today, it'd be verging on a private concert.
Next tour will probably be residencies and festivals.
I looked at these for shits and giggles. One of the few that is pretty sold out is St. Louis. Which is kinda funny since it's where the infamous riot took place.
But yeah, there are a lot of empty patches on some of the August dates, when this thing is starting.
They were insane for not doing anniversary tours in 2017 and 2021.
Fans love these types of tours...many major acts have done them the past 10+ years.
It's possible they initially wanted to but since they are unable to be less than a year late on their anniversaries, can't market the tour as an anniversary.
When you get down to brass tacks...the level of incompetence is astounding.
Preaching to the choir here but, this is why you hire an ACTUAL manager who knows and can capitalize on these things instead of family members who know jackshit about managing.

In retrospect, they have been doing everything for a while now for money. Yeah, I know all musicians do this. CD release, you can't tell me a big portion of it wasn't to clear out the debts accumulated by Axl on recording that album. On mygnr a while back, someone was going over financials and at some point, they had to tour to raise cash for something/or just needed the money. This was before Slash/Duff returned and was in the 2000s sometime.
Slash and Duff returned purely for the money and in search of the money they lost when they left the partnership in the late 90s. They haven't been "artists" at least in GNR for a long time. The only way we are getting new music if it someone leaks something. And that's pretty sad. Also explains, how Slash/Duff deal with the clown show GNR management. They don't care as long as the money keeps on rolling in. When they do the solo stuff, they use their own managers (ie actual professionals).

This is true....and it's a scary thought.
I talk about this every now and then... we're already seeing it start to happen.
Even the Beatles.... literally the biggest band in history...while still popular....are fading in relevance.
In the 2020s and beyond...the biggest Beatles song is Here Comes the Sun.
That's like an Izzy or Duff song becoming the #1 GNR song in 20 years.
Frank Sinatra is essentially already on the ash heap of history....and he's one of the biggest icons of the 20th century.
The Rat Pack?!?.... shit....most people can't even remember the Brat Pack and that happened 20 years later!
Once the generations that experienced something are dead....only a small fraction of their culture will remain....and the fact we've been documenting so much of it since the invention of TV, film, photographs, etc doesn't change this fact.
It'll all rot in an archive or like a ton of stuff from the film studios... simply be tossed in the trash.
Another example is the internet. Remember how they told us ALL of this stuff would be permanently archived...and what you say on the internet stays forever?!?

Yeah there's a handful on the internet archive (Way back Machine) but in most cases, it's just the front page or main index. The actual content doesn't exist.
15 years ago Myspace was what Facebook and Instagram are in today's culture. A massive community.... social media, music, forums...
Go take a look now.....
All of that content....GONE.
Just imagine how much of our history has slipped through the cracks of time. For every Shakespeare there's probably ten just as good or better that no one will know that they existed.
Imagine all the ancient history lost.
I believe that some of these things like love of music are passed on through generations. It's just not happening with this current group. I have two nephews who are around teenage level. All they give a shit about is video games as far as popular culture goes. No,wait they like whatever shit is on Disney/Marvel and whatever's popular(and modern). But as far as actual rock music, I could talk to them about it and they'd go blank and glaze pretty quickly.
I shudder to think how bad it will be in the next 10 years when some of these guys (movies and music) die off. There's no one to carry on the torch. It will never be the same and the trends that you see now will either remain or get worse.

The Last Matinee. Horror/slasher film from Uruguay. Proof that not all bad modern films come from the USA. This one bored the shit out of me. Quite a feat considering it's run time is only roughly 80 mins long. All style and no substance. I mean it LOOKS GOOD. The problem here is that there weren't enough characters to kill here. I know that sounds odd. But some of the kills are spaced out. Well and in between that you get these scenes of banal conversation. If you're going to set this in a theater/cinema , you'd better go for the gonzo/full chaos/pandemonium (like Demons) or make me give a shit about some of the characters. This did neither.
As I grow older, I realize that these are the types of movies that annoy me the most. The ones that are truly boring. At least with a bad movie, it evokes some sort of emotion. This one I was checking how long was left in the movie every 5-10 mins it seemed.

I did get a good laugh when female Democratic senators thought people were being sexist with calls for Feinstein's removal. It has nothing to do with that.

We saw how Absurd/Hard School was rolled out that they would be unable to make any RSD deadline.
The record label would have to do everything from point A to point Z. That's the only way a RSD release is anything other than champagne wishes and caviar dreams.
It's really sad. Out of my favorite bands, they are literally the only one incapable of a RSD release.
Listening to the same GNR tunes over and over gets old.
I don't listen to them at all.... other than last year with the Ritz. Hell...I didn't even properly digest the Vegas show. Once I got burnt out on the Ritz, I was done.

I turn 48 in a week. Hard to believe between the ages of 18 and now, my favorite band released a grand total of ONE album...and we only got that thanks to Irving Azoff...who was then shit on by the fan base.
I used to find the Chinese Democracy saga fascinating. Used to love reading CD Whispers.
Now I find the whole thing laughable. It's like a bad sitcom that was in desperate need of cancelation.
What I once thought of as mysterious and intriguing was actually a jumbled mess of mismanagement and incompetence.
A trilogy that buries AFD and we gotta get it in stages because it's too advanced for us old timers living in the past?!?

It was nothing but a 20 year bait and switch. Dangle Chinese to get your ass to buy a ticket and once you get through the door....you get AFD shoved down your throat.
If you want GNR excitement and mystery you gotta go back to the UYI saga to find it.
I'm close but not at this point yet. But yeah at some point, childhood memories/adolescence can only take you so far when you treat your fanbase like total retards. And just don't release stuff at all. Even dead bands and old farts treat their fanbase with more respect that as you noted on those 2 fronts.
