..Axl was the one who really wanted the reunion, in the first place? How would that change your perception of his struggle with delivering an album and the following comments, especially most recently (2001 onwards, since in 99 the "not having Slash is preventing me from releasing an album" felt really nostalgic and somewhat positive), disregarding a reunion as the devil would with the skies?

Well, I have to be honest.. I didn't like it very much
BUT
Art is art and ideas come to fruition and the more you play and record, the best the outcome is, so keep on recording and writing!

I can come up with a fake part like that in 30 minutes and still sound like a new track (with Axl "vocals" on it).
WELL THEN WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??
I don't want to be arrested for leaking songs that do not exist!

Sorry guys, I hate to disagree but I really can't see how the word 'Zodiac' could be cut and pasted together from the multitracks (or elsewhere) whilst maintaining the level of multi layering so evident in much of Axl's studio tracks.
I admit my desire for new music may be clouding my judgment but I just got a good feeling about this one. I remember when nemus leaked Madagascar and evening thought it was BS. So the Soulmonster guy has a bit of a history.
Maybe he got lucky this time. He does, after all, have (or had) a copy of the Grenade version of Chinese.
Pick any "So" of ANY song on chinese democracy. Mix it as a fade in. There's your Zo and that's exactly what's on the track, by the way.
The "Di" is cutting any "the" and "is", pasting them together, mixing and putting a strong fade out on the is. They took this part out of Catcher, by the way. Also, you're really think that Axl would sing a single word changing tone by syllable? Take the "the" and "is" or even a "this" from Catcher. mix them together and you'll even notice the tones differ, like they do on this track.
The "ac" out of Zodiac was the most dissicult part to find and I'm not quite sure where it came from, if from the "back" of Madagascar or from another song.
I really don't have the time to look into the piano, but sounds to me as something inverted and sped up.
And yes, your desire for new music *IS* clouding your judgment. This is a complete different beast from Blood In the Water which, by the way, I know people tried and were able to, reverting some syllables out of some songs, spell "Blood In the Water' using the mixes we had. Only the melodies sounded off, which kinda proves that the vocal track for that particular song is somewhere somehow.

It's fake. It's vocal parts cut and pasted, probably extracted from the multi tracks..

I have a feeling that the reunion efforts that surfaced in 2007/early 2008 were coming right from Axl's camp as it was known by them, at that time, that Finck was gone for good.
That, to me, was the final breath of air on Chinese Democracy and the Guns N' Roses reincarnation. If there's a moment in time where we can say that Axl lost his passion and then turned GNR into a cash machine / nostalgia act, to me that moment is 2007 with Finck quitting and 2008 leading up to the release of the album.

Are we sure that Axl wouldn't budge on the reunion or when he did wanted a reunion his demands weren't met, therefore he backed off on it?

If it were those two, I'd say it clears the deck: it rips the band aid off and forces everything forward. It removes the fear of public reaction, and ultimately, given what we know of Azoff, might even pave the way for a reunion by sabotaging CD.
I'd say it's something along those lines too. By sabotaging the release and speeding up things, Axl would have to hurry up finding a good management firm to release the album, therefore the Azzoff involvement. Also, it could lower sales and collaborate to the reunion plans Azzoff always had. It would literally pressure Axl to deliver the album as soon as possible (rumours have it that by January 2007 the album was handled to the record company and negotiations, headed by Azzoff begun, including the best buy deal).
Seems like the missing pieces of the puzzle are jumping in front of us...

I think Azzoff was already in talks after the Merck falldown and was obviously in touch with Universal and Interscope. Jimmy Iovine was rumoured to be the one that got Azzoff to manage Guns N' Roses.
I'd believe it was Iovine with the help/manipulation of mastermind Azzoff.
