dude that is fine, move on(meant as in move on from afd) was taken out of context but i don't really care, a lot of people here are nice, but the microcosm of this site, coupled with its inactivity at times makes for a potent combination of unrealistic and out of touch views that contemporary society don't share. i am even disgusted with myself for having to type in such a serious manner ON THE INTERNET.

I think a lot of us are here because we're disgusted by the rarity of serious discussion on the internet. I love this place because you can have a real talk. You can just say something and move on anywhere.

try and refrain from telling me what i can and cannot grasp, i 'grasp' what you're saying, you think there's no tracks of SCOM caliber in the leaks or on the album, cool i disagree, basically what it comes down to is you're disappointed with the album, you've obviously been waiting for it longer than i have, if i had waited that long i might have been disappointed too, however i haven't, and that is why i think my perspective is shared by a greater amount of the general public. basically in the sense that they haven't been waiting for 15 years, haven't listened to the leaks, and haven;t invested as much as you have in the album, and haven't built it up to unattainable levels.

Dude, do you read blogs or magazines on GNR? They share the 'it isn't worth the wait' opinion and the media in general has been paying some attention since 99 on CD. I don't think 'oh, it's a GNR CD, ill be thrilled if it's decent' is a common reaction and i wholeheartedly disagree that that is what the band wanted. They built the anticipation up for years, and now know they can't match the hype, and are kind of hiding from promotion.

i really don't think GNR ever sat down and said ok, we need to write something specifically for radio, i think they just wrote what they felt, axl had been working on November rain since he was a teenager i hardly think that he wrote it thinking "ok this is going to be a good song but i need to commercialise it for radio". fact remains, GNR were different there is no denying that, but they weren't drastically inventive, just unique, they appealed to the mainstream and obviously at the point they were before the UYI were released ANYTHING they wrote would be pounced upon by the mainstream audience.

Well intentions aside they took influence from what they heard on radio, basically what is popular, and bought into a lot of it.

i also think its unfair to say he was aiming for the 90's mainstream, you don't know what he was aiming for, i also don't see any distinctive undeniable copies of 90's sound, nothing generically grunge or numetal in the leaks, sure like all GNR albums it has ELEMENTS of varying influences but its distinctively unique.

-If The World = Faith No More (essentially Evidence)
-Shackler's Revenge = White Zombie + NIN
-Riyadh = Praxis (Crash Victim with Axl)
- Better also shares some NIN-y and Marilyn Manson style production
-James oftentimes says alot of the leaks sound like Simply Red

Several people have talked about Axl wanting to be like other 90s groups, he spent a ton of time even when GNR was big pushing for Jane's Addiction and NIN. Zutaut talked about him wanting Nirvana-esque drumming on CD, and didn't Zakk Wylde say Axl like Limp Bizkit? 90s is all over CD. Probably because the album was mostly written in the late 90s/early 00s.

whatever, i don't understand why everything is so analysed and magnified to the point where its just not enjoyable here, or on most GNR forums, you are so caught up in the chinese democracy saga that you're living it james, the website is proof of this, but remember its the internet, the album is coming out, relax, once you have it in your hands you can analyse every single note to the point where you can't possibly enjoy it.

but i digress, when i need to vent my GNR opinions i'll post elsewhere, somewhere where people aren't as wrapped in the saga and there is more than the same 10 people to talk to.

I think you're missing who James is. His life doesn't revolve around CD, he's just very arrogant and hates being wrong. 16 Jk james. Of course some of us like to analyze, otherwise we wouldnt go to discussion forums, but whatever. You do what's right for you, and feel free to go somewhere where people won't actually care what you say or think about it at all.

If it wasn't for people being "caught up" in it, you wouldn't have any sites to go to. Each of these sites are run by dedicated fans. As far as you trying to use the site's activity as a jab, you knew the site's activity when you joined and continued posting.

Your definition of 'enjoyment' seems to be telling people they deserve to die because they don't agree with you. Most people don't consider such things 'enjoyment'.

I wish you the best of luck 'elsewhere'.

So, it seems we have a pretty nice majority who want either CD or Better. Those are definitely the 2 best choices of the songs we've heard. CD is a challenge though because the intro is fucking awesome but there's no way you could include that in a single. sad

Why not?  I'm sure a lot of people said there was no way November Rain would ever be successful without being cut down in length, but it worked.

I say leave the intro.  Fuck people who want to edit music.  That has been some of the biggest mistakes artists have made in my opinion.

Take A7X's radio version of Afterlife.  They cut it down and did a little re-aranging of the song, and it just destroyed it.  I can't listen to it when it comes on.

GNR even made that huge mistake with SCOM i felt.  They really should have left it alone.  Axl was right in saying that people were robbed with that song, because Slash's solos are key in making that song so great.

As for my vote, i vote CD with the intro still intact.

Second single, i hope it's an unknown song.

Third single, a ballad.  Could be Catcher, Street of Dreams, or TWAT (full length).  I exclude ITW since it's already on a movie soundtrack and thus likely won't be released as a single.

I'm not forgetting that.  The intro is part of what makes CD such a great song.  That intro is amazing.  I couldn't imagine it being taken out.

I think CD has enough balls to grab people.  I would say that the first version of Better we got could also do a good job in getting attention, but it can't be the overproduced version.  I like the 06 version better, the one where the guitars and overall production had balls.

Saikin, this isn't the same as November Rain. November Rain was a long song, but it didn't contain a minute (or longer) intro with no music or words (it has a long intro but it's actual music that draws the listener in). People have insanely short attention spans in this country, ESPECIALLY now due to computers and the Internet. When that song comes on the radio, they'll fucking turn it off before it even gets a chance to impress them.
