Yep. And I truly feel bad for people that don't get that.
(insert Finck Hater post saying they feel sorry for me that I do)
This is interesting. I've always looked at it completely the opposite way. I see him as a more technically skilled guitarist than I am (of course, most guitarists are because I rarely play), but he has no musical clue whatsoever. The tone he plays with and the notes he hits just don't fit the music in any instance I've heard. I can tolorate his TWAT solos, but even those are tough to listen to when they are isolated on the RB track. Unless you consider playing out of tune to be a talent, I just don't see the musical talent. If he had musical talent, somebody would have snatched him up to write something at some point in his career. The fact that nobody did speaks volumes.
I still agree with that. His clashing of notes can be the result of poor music theory as well. Because of his creative abilities he's able to figure that shit out when he's given time, like on the recordings.
I, also, remember there being a hold up with cd cause they had to go back and fix some of his tunings. certainly possible that that is relative.

for me that's confirmation that it is about slash and the fans.
#1053 Re: Guns N' Roses » Prostitute » 868 weeks ago
i think sorry is about a lot of things, including both slash and the fans, as axl said it was.

When he's got other writers with him like Bucket I think he can be good but when he's sent out on his own to solo it's terrbile to listen to. I really like his solos in SOD, CD, TWAT etc. His solos on the record as a whole I really enjoy but his "interpretations" of the live stuff and his solo spots are awful.
Finck is clearly a creative and talented musician
what he's not is a technically learned guitar player
that's why, when given time to adhere to the music, he can come up with some awesome stuff like his work on cd
yet make us cringe when he's asked to come up with something on the spot or play someone else's material.
one must know the scales and chords used like the back of their hand in order to use them on the spot and
their fingers need to be trained accordingly, through repetition, in order to play a pre-existing piece.

ugh
The song is not good enough for it's thread to rise from the dead?

I personally don't like how Bumble does the outro so it kills it for me. The Bucket versions in 2002 were pretty good. But, in the end, I can live without it because it has never been one of my favorite Gnr tracks. I do understand why people would want to hear it though.
agreed 100 percent - although axl seems to nail that song often, regardless of what vocals he brings that night.

I agree, but it was also boring back in the day as well. I can do without it, but most of the people in the audience aren't diehards like us. They will be "greatest hits " fans who will expect it and be disappointed if they don't hear it.
Is that really true any more?
I woud think the audience would consist of an even combination of die-hards and greatest hits noobs these days. Combined with the fact that gnr has a ton of hits I'd say Patience can hit the road.
It just doesn't convert to electric very well.

agreed
i actually prefer his performance now
why would i care if he runs during the songs?
there's more craft to his performance now
one of the thins about him now that i really like is the way he moves backwards and side to side while singing and without being able to see where he's going

The Urlacher injury is devastating. Even if just symbolically. He's pretty much the face/leader of the team. Will be interesting to see if they can recover from this. If they start losing a few games, season is over and its time to just jockey for draft position.
Chances of a Vikings run has just increased.
how do you increase from 100 percent?

That's everything that i've been trying to convey a point about for the last several months.
But so what? We get it dude. Some old fans don't like the band anymore. That's like saying some people who travel overseas will get food poisioning. It happens over time, and it happens when bands go through a lot of changes.
I look at this GNR and I see a vastly different band than the band I loved in 1988, but you know what, I don't care, its a different thing but I enjoy it for what it is. Just like my new girlfriend isn't my old girlfriend..:D
Would I love the AFD line up to come to my house and play AFD over a few beers, hell yeah, but that's not going to stop me enjoying Bumble and Ashba tear up the guitars ripping the shit out of those same classics and Chinese Democracy! Bring that shit on...:mosh:
agreed. I am 33. Slash is the reason I picked up the guitar and If I had to pick between the way it is now and the way it was before '94 I'd pick the latter for every reason already listed. but Axl went his seperate way and the rest of the band did the same and Axl and friends put out a solid cd and the '06 show in minneapolis was amazing. The biggest gripe I have with the current arrangment is the lack of studio material which results in the appetite-heavy shows but there is something special about seeing axl perform live that over shadows everything that i dislike about the band. I can only hope for a more cd-heavy set list the next time i see gnr live just like I can only hope for more studio releases along the way but, either way, if "FakeGNR" comes to minneapolis again I'm fucking goin.
