Honestly?  Because now it's real.  A legacy can't be tarnished by an imaginary album, but it can by a piece of crap album.  These songs are ok to good (except Shacklers), but are ruined by production and too much shit going on - add to that a booklet written by war, and you get a joke of an album that was already the butt of all the jokes in the industry.

That isn't the band I love.

It can't be tarnished if you don't let it.   I can't understand why you can't see both as two separate things even though it's "GNR".    Even if people consider GNR now a joke, you know they don't consider GNR of the past a joke so what does it matter.   I don't think Slash, Duff or any of the guys think like that, they've never said that.   I know they don't agree on Axl using the name but I really don't think they think it affects their legacy at all, not one bit.   They know what their band was, as does the world and this would never affect that.

I don't understand why you become so angry when someone says you aren't a fan, why not just say, yes I am not a fan of GNR now.  Because really you aren't of fan of GNR in the present, regardless of your reasons for disliking what GNR has become.   It is what it is and either you like it or you don't.   I don't look at you any differently for not liking any of this.   It's your opinion, I am just simply saying, why does that statement surprise you when people say it, you'd have to expect it really.

Because there is no GnR now.  There's nothing to be a fan of or not be a fan of in the GnR world.  Give me a real band (even if it's Frank, Dizzy, Pitman, BBF, and Axl) and I'll give you an opinion on the band Guns N' Roses.  Axl Rose is Guns N' Roses legally.  There is no band.  When I talk about it, I have to preface it by saying "well, the REAL Guns N' Roses" and amazingly, regular real world people either get it and laugh or don't have a clue that there's a fake GnR right now (and by fake, I mean Axl and the session players that released the album, so don't even try to say there isn't a fake one).

I would love to see the opinions of people if they released this as Axl Rose's debut album.  I'd be willing to be the opinions (including my own perhaps) might be a little bit different than they are now.  There would certainly be a lot less anomosity, that's for sure and I'd likely be a little more forgiving of the major mistakes with the album.

Just because this band isn't made up of it's original members doesn't mean that GNR of now doesn't have merit.  You're forgetting Axl and Dizzy [techinally] is of the original members.   Axl is a founding member but again, it's getting into the name thing.   Granted, I am not saying things haven't been completely fucked up in GNR world and I am sure Axl has alot to do with that.    Sure it's been a crazy ride getting here but it's here so why dwell on what justifies what is and what's not GNR...Again.

To be honest, I don't think the opinions would be any different.   I still think the comparisons would still fly around.

Well said.

There are going to be people not buying this or hating it due to the fact they cannot get past that this is not old GNR.   That's fine doesn't make them not being fans of GNR but those of you cannot argue the fact that you aren't really fans of what GNR has become otherwise, the album would be bought and the songs would be enjoyed.  So when someone says you're not a fan, that's kind of half true in a sense if you fall into the catagory of not liking anything about Chinese Democracy at all, then one can't blame another for saying that.

So in order to continue being interested in the Axl Rose show, one needs to buy into what GnR has become?  The people that like it can't buy into what it's become (a platform for Axl Rose to release a solo album), so how can you expect others to accept it as GnR?  If Axl can release some good music, I will be interested.  I don't have to like whatever he's dishing out to be a fan.  If this group of employees ever really becomes GnR, I might be interested.  Until then, I will always want to know what Axl Rose - my favorite rock frontman of all time - is doing with his solo efforts disguised as GnR.

This is Santana all over again, only it's the same lead singer instead of the same guitar player.  It is one man's vision played by a bunch of session players and touring employees hired to assist in the writing and development of his vision.  There is no band.  Shit, Tommy doesn't even like GnR, yet he's a member of the band now?  Come on, he's collecting a paycheck like everybode else is.  Just call it what it is.

If CD was released as a Axl Rose solo album, you can cut the sales in half - especially if the production was this poor.  That is the reason this "band" is called Guns N' Roses.  Not because it lives up to the name.

Really, the clinching argument in my book:  How can you call it a band when there is only one member?

I am not into rehashing the name thing, my point was and it's obvious by what you have stated here and have continuously stated for years, you are NOT a fan of what GNR has become, why can't you just say that, instead of posting about why it shouldn't be called GNR.   Are you a fan of the old YES, is Axl your favorite frontman YES, do you love what GNR is doing now..NO.   It's pretty much end of story.   You can interested but it's obvious you don't like it.

I totally thought it was for real and I was yelling at my husband, what is he doing!!  LOL.

Yeah Miguel definitely got over on Dexter.   Part of me thinks that this isn't the first time Miguel has killed someone.   He could definitely set up Dexter bad and being the DA, he would be believed and he'd probably have evidence.   I don't know what he's doing but I can't wait to find out.

#126 Re: Guns N' Roses » so, does CD stand up as a Guns N' Roses album? » 911 weeks ago

I definitely think this is stands on it's own as a GNR album.   I definitely agree this is the followup to UYI, as Axl wanted to go in many different directions.    While I'll agree it doesn't have the anthems of the past but we all know those cannot be duplicated and I think if GNR was still together, they couldn't even top them.

OMG did you see the next episode yet!!!   I have to say, this season is the best by far then the first 2 seasons.

I don't know how they are getting it but they didn't buy it.  Either or.

Agreed

Besides, Axl is forefilling his want to evolve more then he did with UYI's.   It's his choice to go in the direction he went into for this album.   Yes, there is alot more synth and funky guitar work but it works for me.   I wouldn't want GNR albums one after the other to sound totally the same, whether it'd be the old band or a new band.

I can't even begin to tell you how many people at work have asked me if I listened to CD
before 11/23.   I told them no and they were shocked.   All I have ever listened to is leaks
from GNR, I wanted to reserve this for the actual thing.   I am glad I did but noone has
asked me for a rip, they are ripping it themselves.
