to me there are three kinds of frontmen:
The ones that entertain and put on a show,
the ones who are all about the music
and the rare few who are both and great at it
I think Slash and Axl fit that criteria and both belong much higher than 8 and 11 on that list, in favor of kurt cobain and jon bon jovi
i've been reading these arguments supporting bon jovi and i agree with some of the points but i just don't think he has all of the attributes as the other guys. Being popular and selling a lot of records and selling out shows is commendable but when your ass and your pretty face are integral to this success you are not a rock god.
kurt cobain belongs on the list, just not that high.

CD was a viable single. All you have to do is look at the album's track list to see that. You don't even have to dig deep for Riad to become a viable single. It was either CD or Better on the launch pad.
If/when its time for a ballad to be a single, I wish Axl luck trying to pick one.
i kinda think sorry would have been a great first single since anyone listening to the lyrics would end up getting into the axl and slash drama. people love drama and it's a gret song. it kinda has that fuck you i'm back vibe to it.

Aussie wrote:My personal thought would be to let NuGNR die as far as this perceived image of them being "a band". To bring yet another guitarist in again - yawn.
If he wants to write more music, I say knock himself out - get 100 different guitarists to write guitar licks for him. He can then pick the stuff that he likes the best and cut and paste it into his next solo project.
But as far as hiring someone else again just to try and hold this version of GN'R out as being a band - don't waste your time, the revolving door of band members has spun for too long. I think there is only one person left he can call in order to sell to the public the concept of GNR actually being a band again. BUT from my read that ain't ever happening.
But, the problem for Axl is that the money these days is made from touring not album sales. So you come back to the same problem of how are you going to sell the concept of GN'R being a band to the public when there is yet more lineup changes with new guys, playing the old guys (in some cases the old old old guys stuff).
It's kind of ironic, Axl wanted to control everything and he basically got what he wanted. From an artistic point of view he has done whatever he has wanted with no compromising with other band members. But this is a double edged sword, in the process of achieving this he has bascially destroyed all marketability of the other guys in regards to the concept of GNR actually being "a band".
I like this post.
Someone should rewrite the story of "The Monkey's Paw" with Mr. Rose as the main character.
i don't
the "revolving door" has gone unnoticed to most of the world. all they know or will notice if gnr tours is there is no slash. they have no idea how many people have come and gone and don't care. i agree a final lineup needs to be established for touring and if future albums/tours are on the way they need to find that lineup right now, make it good (marketable and talented), and stick with it after taking the plunge.

i disagree with most of your assessments
me too
Compared to the rest of the album - TIL, sorry, and Street of Dreams get the most attention on places like youtube and the most positive comments.
the only people i hear complaining about the vocals are the people on gnr forums.

i like ITW but have heard a lot of hate for it from people on this board and, therefore, am very surprised it looks poised to go deep into the contest.
perhaps it has grown on people

2.7 million to eventually be shipped, guaranteed and with no post release promo. add the future purcahses and it's not gonna turn out as bad as some thought it would.
a 2009 tour would help make this a moderate success but, if released in the vicinity of late '09 (as hinted it would by axl), a second album of more modern sounding music could use cd's sucess (which may be triple platinum worlwide by then) as a stepping stone toward achieving increased success and would also spike cd sales a bit more.
a reunion, ofcourse, would spike cd sales and jettison any future work the band did toward numbers a little more familiar to the gnr name but this scenarion seems less likely if you take dexter's words as scripture.

Making it through means that your career isn't killed by it. Bands like Poison or Warrant or even Motley Crue or Van Halen were never able to get big again once grunge rolled through. Anyone can have a few down years, and These Days still sold 10 mil+ worldwide (and I would NEVER call it one of their best albums).
The grunge era is one of the most depressing things about GN'R's demise because they had the power and ability to come out of grunge still credible and still successful. I think their collapse hurt a lot of other non-grunge rock bands of that era, although I admit I could name none specifically.
i agree with russ and am gonna say that his career was dead hence calling it a comeback. that's why everyone makes such a big deal about him. He did what so few have. He's like rocky, the film character - Nobody likes him for his boxing, most just admire the fact he won't go away when it would be so much easier to do so. Being dead in the music industry isn't a literal statement. If you are perceived as dead you ARE, until you do something to convince the world otherwise.
and kurt cobain is very overrated on every level and if you went back in time and changed his end means from shooting himself in the head to the band breaking up and him retiring he'd undoubtedly be on the bottom of that list if not on there at all.

That's YOUR opinion. I have a tough time picking songs because I think they're all good. That's MY opinion. See how that works?
Can you show me the part of my post where I said I was speaking for you? Of course its my opinion. Its safe to say that anything someone says or types is their opinion.
there ya go
