In the BBC documentary from a while back, once they get around to the riots part... Matt laughs it off and says sales skyrocketed.
Things like that is what makes me like him. That and his part in Use Your Illusion.

slash and duff pushed hard for matt. axl wasn't going to budge.
even if you set aside any sort of grudge over comments made publicly, axl has always been very loyal to his bandmates as long as they've been loyal to him and he just wasn't going to cast frank aside when frank has done everything asked and been a good soldier.
That's why the Pitman development was so puzzling.
I miss Mother Goose.

That sounds a distance more interesting than what we saw on screen. And Pryce doesn't help it. Every role he plays I see him as a creep. Kill now.
They're afraid to write Cerseri as the compete Disney villain she is in the books. Instead she needs to be some sort of strong "feminist" character.
A common trend these days. The result is you neither hate her or love her. She's neutered character.

You and me both. It's a bit of a personal favourite.
I think I'd have to travel back to 1986 (or maybe 1993 to an extent) to find live vocals which I like more.
He sounds weaker, but more composed. Looks like he's finally been able to adapt a softer, less powerful rasp that he can sustain. Probably he will regain some power as the tour goes on. I thought he was decidedly better on the second night in Vegas than the first.
Yeah, he's definitely better than last few years. Coma would have been a disaster of epic proportions in 2011.

I think Bumble is massively under-rated because his style is so different to Slash's and thus for fans of the classic band he's a strange fit for GNR. However that's more about Axl's plan for the sound than Bumble's fault. Meanwhile because people warmed to Bucket it seemed Bumble got hostility on that front too. Then it was compounded by the 3 guitar policy that made the songs sound different and forced Bumble to do nothing much of the time when he could have been shredding.
However at the end of the day he is formidable on guitar. I mean you can hand him a guitar and he can literally play anything and I mean ANYTHING.
Bucket and to a degree Finck proves you can have a completely different style and be accepted by the fans. Those guys both had plenty of haters, but they also stood out enough to gain supporters. With Bucket his soloing was so good some fans put the songs alongside classic GN'R just because of that. With Finck half the fans thought he absolutely butchered Slash whenever he tried, but almost everyone thought he did some good work on CD. And he had character. Finck was just a weird dude through and through. He was no act. You tend to respect people who do their own thing and sticks to it.
With Bumble it was obvious from the get go he was a Buckethead replacement. And I mean replacement in the purest sense of the word. The big shot guitarist with a weird stage name who is prone to virtuoso antics. Problem is he was no BH. Nor was he a Slash. He didn't even have the character of Finck. He didn't leave a mark in any way.
Personally I actually like some of his contributions. His solo in Catcher I think is brilliant, but people was used to and preferred May there, so that's no good. His Scraped solo that morphs into BH is also nice, but nobody likes that song. The song that is all Bumble has the worst solo and is the worst song on the album, Shackler's Revenge. That leaves you with live performances, and this here shows why he never warmed up to majority of fans despite being a technically brilliant guitarist and a nice guy:
Slash

Buckethead
Bumble

He fails to interpret the song completely, and it was always like that. Like he didn't get what makes Slash and BH solos so great. BH barely even plays the same solo and it's 72 seconds to Slash's 49. Yet most will agree he totally nails it. Bumble I don't know what the hell he's doing, it certainly doesn't excite me. Funny Axl only gives him 35 seconds before he starts singing again.

Hope Jonathan Pryce and his group eats it early. They ruin the KL story lines.

I think a studio version of this - or even this same solo once he's played it more would impress.
Well, yes, but they have spent three months rehearsing.
Also, there's a finished version he could just copy if he couldn't hack a new one in that time.

A statement from Axl comes to mind, "I had to push Slash really hard for those guitar solos".
I think he's just a bit lazy. My main issue with his work outside GN'R. When Slash applies himself he can pull out some of the most emotive solos in the world. Your example of Starlight is a good one. Song puts me to sleep. Something in the vein of Estranged is what we need.

monkeychow wrote:As for the intro - at first I was worried it was a bit "tacked on" even though it sounds cool as fuck - but now I think it sits well with the bridge part - Better has always been a strange frankenstein of a song in terms of it's styles.
I always thought Better was 2 or 3 song ideas that were eventually melded into one song. This could explain the "Frankenstein" nature of the song.
On topic...they should throw a CD EP on Itunes in the middle of the night and watch the world go ape shit.
Better is the patchiest song on CD. At least 3 separate songs made into one. It's a shame since there is a classic in there. The power riff and the verses work very well, Axl is ace and the lyrics are good. The whole outro starting from Robin's solo is the best part, classic GN'R.
The intro (guess not strictly an intro anymore) doesn't work and the bridge while badass, doesn't fit. The chorus ain't great either.
New intro by Slash is very cool, but it doesn't alleviate any of the issues with the song.
