#171 Re: The Sunset Strip » U2 - Songs of Surrender » 139 weeks ago
U2 have been quite prolific with new music over the years. I don’t see an issue with them reimagining their older songs in a format like this. I wouldn’t buy it myself, but it’s hardly a point to say that they’ve lost their creativity by doing this

I also thought he was sick. Why didn't he perform?
I just looked it up.... hearing loss from Sorum's bass drum.

Sounds like an excuse to me. I wonder what really happened?!?
It’s not an excuse. I thought it was common knowledge that’s what happened. His tinnitus was flaring up, due to standing close to Sorum’s drums during rehearsal, so he decided to cancel the actual show appearance.
I think it’s a wise move if they guy was concerned about his hearing.

On the GNR subject...
What the hell was Beck going to do with Locomotive?!? Was Slash going to step back and let Beck do his own thing with the song?
Even at the time I thought it was a strange pairing.
From the rehearsal footage of it on YouTube, he was adding little bits of his signature type widdly diddly stuff in there.
I guess they may have extended the song to allow an extra solo spot for him too?
Anyway, I’m in the same boat, I know he’s a good guitarist, but I couldn’t name a single song or album of his.
I do like his playing on Duff’s Believe in Me album. He plays some pretty cool lead guitar on both (Fucked Up) Beyond Belief and Swamp Song.
#175 Re: Guns N' Roses » If GNR releases nothing in 2023, is this the end for you? » 141 weeks ago
It’s just a shame that the once greatest rock band EVER, can’t find a way to put something out, aside from 20 year old rehashed songs, and even that seems all too hard for them. But why…? The last great rock guitar hero is there, the once greatest rock vocalist/lyricist ever is there. Why is it so damn difficult…???
This dangling carrot of something new coming, was tiring decades ago, and it’s just getting pathetic now.
#176 Re: Guns N' Roses » Merry Christmas! » 142 weeks ago
My wife got me the UYI Super Deluxe CD box set for Christmas, and while I’m happy with the thought behind the gift, I’m kinda annoyed she spent so much on it, because it’s not worth what they’re charging.
Merry Christmas to still one of the best places to discuss all things GN’R, both good and bad.
I hope 2023 brings us all some new GN’R music, and I hope it’s decent.
#177 Re: The Sunset Strip » Metallica - Lux Aterna » 143 weeks ago
They just did a concert for some benefit.
The set list is abysmal....
You think so? Two brand new covers they’ve never performed before, as well as the debut performance of Lux Æterna.
Then add in some deeper album cuts alongside the radio and crowd favourites.
I think that’s a great setlist. While that’s not my pick of songs, they’re certainly keeping a large portion of their fan base, both casual and hardcores satisfied.
#178 Re: Guns N' Roses » Slash Says Guns N’ Roses Have a ‘Couple of Epic’ Songs to Release » 145 weeks ago
If they have no intentions of releasing new music, I wish they would shut the fuck up about it. All these cockteases of “it should be out by (US) Summer for the tour” which has long gone, and then there is no new release along complete silence about it, just pisses fans off.
I’m surprised they actually came through with the UYI box with how incompetent they are. Though looking at the lack of content and stupid price tag, just confirms their incompetence.

Axl’s re-recorded vocals on Live Era were rubbish. I’m glad we finally got some proper official live releases from 1991 and 1992 that we can listen to that haven’t had the vocals messed with
