Wow, I never heard that the 99 Paradise City leaked. Like many here, I'd kill to hear the re-recorded Appetite.

Good luck, with the album now out I was worried that the leaks would dry up. Nice to see someone's getting the ball rolling again...

Wow, A Bucket/Bumble/Fortus guitar lineup would rock my world - I'd love to finally see Buckethead performing with GN'R. Don't wanna get my hopes up though...

So, what, Bumblefoot's the new lead singer for Velvet Revolver?

...actually, I'd totally buy that record. big_smile

Yeah, I bought into the whole "reunion" idea - I even suggested a couple of (seemingly) plausible line-ups. Clearly I was wrong - there's way too much bad blood there for it to work. Nor would I want it to - Axl's worked with the current band for much longer than he ever did with Slash and co, and it'd be hugely disrespectful to shit on the current guys by reuniting with people he doesn't even like.

Of course, I was basing my ideas for a reunion on what then seemed plausible - if Axl had come out with his "homework assignment" (:D) before now, all the ill-informed speculation of the sort that I'd engaged in would've been nipped in the bud.

Who knows about a reunion, it's a speculation for now and really nothing much more substantial than that, the strongest reunion indicator is that Azoff's in charge and he's the 'reunion' guy so to speak. As for a reunion lineup it dpeneds on if they want to do new material. If they do, I'd suspect we might see Pitman remaining in some capacity. If it's just a big tour there's no real need for Pitman, they did the old songs fine 20 years ago wihtout him. I see no place for Fortus in any kind of reunion environment, if Izzy won't do it (and I suspect he would) then I'm sure Gilby would.

My thinking is that Axl would want to maintain a balance between "his people" and the old band; the control freak wouldn't want to be outnumbered by Slash and his mates, given that they're a tight unit that's been recording and touring together for several years now.

Given that Pitman wrote many of the new GN'R songs, I'd imagine Axl would want to keep him on board - and he'd be handy for synths, orchestration and adding all those "modern" touches to the songs. Dizzy would stay, that's a given.

Fortus... I'm assuming Izzy would be his usual unpredictable self; we know he doesn't like touring, but I could see him taking a back-seat role. Songwriting, and occasionally turning up to guest at gigs and soak up the applause. Assuming that were the case, I'd say Fortus is a more likely pick than Gilby, because neither Axl nor Slash have had any meaningful contact with Gilby for about a decade.

I couldn't see Slash's ego allowing him to sit back and watch Ron play, say, the November Rain outro, though.

So I could see a plausible "reunion" line-up of...

Axl
Slash
Fortus
Duff
Pitman
Dizzy
Either Sorum or Frank on drums
plus occasional appearances by Izzy

I get the feeling that Robin saw the way the wind was blowing when Azoff - he of the VH reunion - turned up. And sure enough, now we have these newspapers reporting that "Axl" is trying to get the old band back together. Bullshit - it's Azoff trying to chuck the album out there, draw a line under it and get the old band back.

Pretty much the only people in the new lineup whose place is secure are Dizzy, Pitman and maybe Fortus (assuming Izzy doesn't want to tour or Axl DEMANDS to have three guitarists). I don't like it - it's a shoddy way to treat the people who've pissed away a decade of their careers on Chinese Democracy - but it looks increasingly like it's happening.

I was wondering which tracks on Abnormal feature the fretless...

#1940 Re: Guns N' Roses » Name each GN'R member's defining moment on Chinese Democracy » 901 weeks ago

Axl- Catcher outro.
Buckethead- TWAT solo.
Finck- Better. Or his TWAT solo. God, I love that song.
Ron- Fretless rhythm on Chinese Democracy (or possibly the Riad solo. I actually prefer it to the Bucket version)
Fortus- The rhythm parts on TWAT. And jumping around on stage and having "stage presence". Fuck you, Lofton. tongue
Tobias- Fuck knows. TWAT. Did he write that? Can I say his "call-and-response" solo on Sympathy for the Devil? 'Cause I actually kinda liked that.
Stinson- Bass lines during the TWAT solo
Pitman- The album intro! Or the samples on Madagascar.
Dizzy- The Blues
Brain- Riad
Frank- IRS drum fill at the end of Bucket's solo.
