It's not a marketing plot. It anger's the general fan community (not me - but most people like with metallica vs napster), and as the article says all it would do is encourage people to steal the album.
it's not the "general fan community" they want. they already have them
they want more people hearing the name guns n roses at every turn so that they check it out

probably cause it's the leak and they shouldn't even be playing it

I'm listening on their website and it's not Shackler's. It's Lenny Kravitz, "Mama Said."
you probably just missed it, for now.
i highly doubt gnr had anything to do with this but it's possible

merk was fired in late '06. they were still working on the album at that point so i am sure it kinda just drifted out of reach at that point. and when they supposedly did get it done a universal rep made a statement about not being willing to negotiate any part of it's release until gnr had managment in place. the delays in the last two years are actually quite reasonable. this is the year, there is too much going on promotion/publicity wise for it not to be.

they may not have to tour to promote cd but based on how unlikely it will be that they make the money back that they spent on the cd, let alone pull a profit, they will probably tour for $$$$$$$$$$

the press covered the story when the announcment was made about the song being on the game. nothing has happened in the gnr world since then. there is nothing new for the press to cover right now.
