#2211 Re: Guns N' Roses » Lyric discrepancies in the CD booklet » 911 weeks ago
Clearly 15 years wasn't long enough to proof read a damn piece of paper before it goes to the printers.
But I suppose the GN'R camp will simply see us as internet whingers with no life for expecting to have a release done in a manner that even seems half professional.
Besides, how dare we question the lyric booklet - it's exactly how Axl wanted it released. Leaving the errors in is very "Rock N' Roll" and sticks the middle finger up to the establishment.
With spin like that do you think I could get a job in the Axl "yes man" army?
#2212 Re: Guns N' Roses » CD first impressions » 911 weeks ago
That skip in Scraped is disgusting!!! I hadn't noticed it since I don't listen to that song because I think it sucks.
Allowing that out is unforgiveable although not surprising given how some of the songs were mixed!!! Didn't any fucker listen to this shit before it was put out. I suppose it's the price you pay for sourrounding yourself with "yes men". Nobody ever has the balls to speak out if they don't agree with something.
Instead of getting "Gee Axl I think the mixing on this song or that song isn't right or not up to scratch" you get "That sounds awesome Axl, putting the sound of a toaster popping in Shacklers Revenge is a great idea".
#2213 Re: Guns N' Roses » So where exactly is Axl Rose? » 911 weeks ago
I firmly believe this isn't how Axl envisioned his "lifes work" being released.
I also can't understand how he could be pissed though - I mean any contracts he signed or deals he did with Azoff I am sure he fully knew the consequences. Unless he was finally forced into a corner where he had no choice, then I might understand how this thing could come out in a fashion that wasn't to Uncle Axl's liking. Under those circumstances I would probably sit in Malibu with my mouth shut too.
Perhaps $$'s really was an issue? I can't see any other reason why he would cave in - I mean shit, he held out this long to try and do things his way. What difference would another year or two have made.

I actually like Sorry - its definitely not a cliche Guns track though so I could see why you may not play it to the casual listener if you were trying to entice them into the new guns album.
My whipping boy is Scraped. I really hate that flipping thing!
I've got a barbie and beers at a mates place this afternoon where we are having a bit of a listening party with a crew of people. So I will be interested in everyones reponse, since they can no doubt be more objective than me.

After listening to the album quite a lot more, I am still overall happy with it and feel it's a pretty strong album, particularly when compared to other albums on offer currently and in more recent times.
It's certainly no Dark Side of the Moon but I will admit that I felt I had pretty realistic expectations of the album. I never thought it would be a masterpiece that would change the music scene, cure world hunger and everything else some people were expecting.
I simply look at it as if it was an album released say 2 or 3 years after their last one. In that context its pretty decent. As for the filler discussion I will be skipping Scraped and Riad most times I listen to it and possibly IRS (although I don't have the same hatred for that as I used to). Other than that, I'm pretty much happy to let it play right through.
I can't think of too many other albums in recent times that I feel that way about. Most have one, two or maybe three songs and the rest I don't even bother listening to.
Sure there are plenty of issues we could mention about being overproduced, the quality of the mixes, too many sounds and noises at times burying things etc etc. But even despite those points, for what it is (if you can ignore the time taken, the people playing on it and the revolving lineups and jokes etc) it's a reasonably solid album for me. No more, no less.
I'm happy to have it, a little disappointed maybe but not too much. I'm even happier to hopefully have this damn saga behind us now. It's also a bit of a shame for Axl that it doesn't appear to have been wrapped up and launched exactly how I presume he may have wanted it. But I believe he only has himself to blame on that front - there were plenty of opportunities over the years to have this thing out 100% his way. Oh well, such is life. I still expect the album to get lots of airtime at my house.
#2216 Re: Guns N' Roses » GN'R/CD Promotion Materials » 911 weeks ago
Finally I have seen some promotion here in Oz. I was just watching sports tonight and I saw a commercial come on advertising the album. I was in another room and could hear the Chi Dem distorted guitar bursts and ran into the room to catch the end of the ad which bascailly showed "New Album Out Now" or something.
I was just shocked that there was finally SOME sort of promo. Have you seen it yet Monkeychow?

#2218 Re: Guns N' Roses » Songs you'd showcase to people in an attempt to get them to listen » 911 weeks ago
Interesting one - depends on the person you are trying to tempt and the style of music they like. To pick the strongest songs I would say:
Better
CD
Sorry or Prostitute
This I Love or the Blues if they aren't really into heavy rockers.
I would throw TWAT in if they have an appreciation for some good guitar work.
I would keep them away from:
- Scraped (god I don't know if I will ever have something positive to say about that track but I will keep listening to give it a fair go).
- Riad
- IRS

^ Good call Tommie, it does sound similar to his postings.
The ony thing that made me think Imposter may have been someone with some idea of what was going on and not just a troll, was the fact they would post and then you would hear nothing from them for weeks.
A troll would be posting every few days - they wouldn't be able to help themselves from playing the game.

^ I agree, when you look at the album in its entirety, I think it's very strong!
